This is the final volume in the trilogy following the smart, stylish, divorced and independent businesswoman Emma McChesney in her career from stenographer, then drummer (traveling salesman) to owner of her own company. (The first was Roast Beef, Medium and the second Personality Plus, both in the LibriVox catalog). Edna Ferber first gained success with these stories and later went on to write Show Boat, Giant and other well known books. First published in 1915, Emma's son, Jock, has moved to Chicago with his new wife. Emma decides to sell in South America and proves she has not lost her magic touch. Emma gets involved in romance, saving a business and many other things. Emma symbolizes the ideal woman at the dawn of the twentieth century: sharp, capable, charming, and progressive. In this book and in "Through the Looking Glass", Lewis Carroll affectionately brought together many of the wonderful stories he told to Alice and her sisters on long summer boating trips. At the age of 16 Ballantyne went to Canada and was six years in the service of the Hudson’s Bay Company. His rule in writing, being in every case, was to write as far as possible from personal knowledge of the scenes he described.In this book he details the lives of the crew as they must overwinter in the frozen north including their meetings with Eskimos and bears and their struggles with disease. This is a realistic account of what life was like for the explorers of the Arctic.

Mary Roberts Rinehart -- "America's Agatha Christie," as she used to be called -- set this story in a New York suburban town, shortly after the end of the first world war. Dick Livingstone is a young, successful doctor, who in the course of events becomes engaged to Elizabeth Wheeler. But there is a mystery about his past, and he thinks himself honor-bound to unravel it before giving himself to her in marriage. In particular, a shock of undetermined origin has wiped out his memory prior to roughly the last decade. Rinehart, who presumably had been reading, or reading about, the then popular Sigmund Freud, plays on what today is called "repressed memory," as she takes Dick into his past, and into the dangers that, unknown to him, lurk there. Is she correct about the behavior of memory? Who knows? After all, this is not a clinical treatise, but a work of fiction, one of the thrillers that made her such a popular writer of the earlier twentieth century.(Introduction by Nicholas Clifford)

The Two Noble Kinsmen is a Jacobean tragicomedy co-written by William Shakespeare and John Fletcher, first published in 1634. Set in ancient Greece during a war between Athens and Thebes, the narrative follows the title characters, Palamon and Arcite, noble youths whose friendship is destroyed by their mutual love for the beautiful Emilia. The subplot deals with the love and eventual madness of the Gaoler's Daughter, who falls hopelessly in love with Palamon. The play is based on "The Knight's Tale" by Chaucer, but also has echoes of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, as two of the major characters are Theseus and Hippolyta, who also appear in the earlier play. 二人转，史称<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">小秧歌</a>、<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">双玩艺</a>、<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">蹦蹦</a>，又称过口、双条边曲、风柳、<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">春歌</a>、半班戏、东北地方戏等。它植根于<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">民间文化</a>，属走唱类曲艺，流行于<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">辽宁</a>、吉林、<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">黑龙江</a>三省和内<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">蒙古</a>东部三市一盟。    东北特色二人转主要来源于<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">东北大秧歌</a>和河北的<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">莲花落</a>。用<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">东北人</a>的俏皮话说：二人转是“秧歌打底，<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">莲花落</a>镶边”。<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">莲花落</a>亦称“落子”，是北方民间的一种<a style="text-decoration: none;color:#4990E2">说唱艺术</a>，边说边唱，载歌载舞。  名段有《大西厢》、《回杯记》、《祝九红吊孝》、《梁塞金擀面》、《马前泼水》、《包公断太后》等。  东北是清朝的“龙兴”之地，自古以来除辽东、辽西有少量汉人外，以白山黑水为中心的广袤地区则是少数民族特别是满、蒙等骑射、游牧民族的天下。在康雍乾盛世期间，清朝实习严厉的“封关”政策，严禁汉人进入关东。康雍乾盛世过后，清朝的皇帝一代不如一代，国力日弱，加上外敌入侵，“封关”政策名存实亡，导致清后期和民国初年出现“闯关东”大潮，大批山东、河北人进入东北，“秧歌打底，莲花落镶边”的二人转就是“闯关东”的人从关内带至关外的。

二人转，史称<a rel="noopener noreferrer">小秧歌</a>、<a rel="noopener noreferrer">双玩艺</a>、<a rel="noopener noreferrer">蹦蹦</a>，又称过口、双条边曲、风柳、<a rel="noopener noreferrer">春歌</a>、半班戏、东北地方戏等。它植根于<a rel="noopener noreferrer">民间文化</a>，属走唱类曲艺，流行于<a rel="noopener noreferrer">辽宁</a>、吉林、<a rel="noopener noreferrer">黑龙江</a>三省和内<a rel="noopener noreferrer">蒙古</a>东部三市一盟。 &nbsp;&nbsp; 东北特色二人转主要来源于<a rel="noopener noreferrer">东北大秧歌</a>和河北的<a rel="noopener noreferrer">莲花落</a>。用<a rel="noopener noreferrer">东北人</a>的俏皮话说：二人转是“秧歌打底，<a rel="noopener noreferrer">莲花落</a>镶边”。<a rel="noopener noreferrer">莲花落</a>亦称“落子”，是北方民间的一种<a rel="noopener noreferrer">说唱艺术</a>，边说边唱，载歌载舞。&nbsp; 名段有《大西厢》、《回杯记》、《祝九红吊孝》、《梁塞金擀面》、《马前泼水》、《包公断太后》等。&nbsp; 东北是清朝的“龙兴”之地，自古以来除辽东、辽西有少量汉人外，以白山黑水为中心的广袤地区则是少数民族特别是满、蒙等骑射、游牧民族的天下。在康雍乾盛世期间，清朝实习严厉的“封关”政策，严禁汉人进入关东。康雍乾盛世过后，清朝的皇帝一代不如一代，国力日弱，加上外敌入侵，“封关”政策名存实亡，导致清后期和民国初年出现“闯关东”大潮，大批山东、河北人进入东北，“秧歌打底，莲花落镶边”的二人转就是“闯关东”的人从关内带至关外的。&nbsp;
