Navaid Aziz is a Canadian Muslim public figure with a diverse academic and social background. He was raised in Montreal, Quebec where he completed a diplome d’etudes collegiales in social sciences from Champlain College. He then proceeded to the Islamic University of Madinah, where he completed an Associate’s Degree in the Arabic Language and a Bachelors in Islamic Law.

Upon returning home to Canada, Navaid began teaching for Al-Maghrib Institute. He has since transitioned to their Director of Public Relations. During this period, he volunteered as the Islamic Editor for Little Explorers Magazine and began his work as a family and youth counselor. It was also during this time that he established himself as a sought-after public speaker. He has lectured across five continents and over 20 countries thus far.

In 2012, Navaid moved to Calgary, Alberta to become the Director of Religious and Social Services for the Islamic Information Society of Calgary, a position he currently holds. In Calgary his youth counseling work extended further to include helping in the mitigation of criminal radicalization. This included the creating and implementation of holistic youth programming which included civic engagement opportunities, volunteer programs at the local shelters, community cleanups, tree planting days, and blood drives amongst other things.

In 2015, Navaid became the first ever Muslim chaplain with the Calgary Police Services. Through his involvement with CPS he consulted in the development of their world-renowned ReDirect program. In 2018, Navaid also joined the Organization for the Prevention of Violence in Alberta as a programming and intervention coordinator. His focus remains on increasing education, literacy, and dialogue through multiple communities.

Navaid’s free time is spent exploring local eateries, traveling, and hiking the Canadian Rockies. He is also known to enjoy playing basketball and hosting game nights—with Monopoly and Cranium being his favorites.

Abdurraheem was educated in a Christian monastic school and although held strong Christian principles dabbled with other religions. This continual quest to find meaning to life eventually led him to Islam.

Ustadh Adnan Rashid is active in dawah and has visited over 30 countries for this purpose. Adnan Rashid has attained a number of ijazas in hadith from reputable hadith authorities. His chains of hadith go back to the Prophet (sllallahu alaihy wa salaam)… via Shah Waliullah Dehlawi as well as Imam Shawkaani. He attained his BA with honors in history from Birkbeck College, University of London. He is currently pursuing postgraduate studies in history at the same university. He has appeared on major Islamic channels such as Iqra Tv and Islam Channel. The Ustadh has taught seerah, tafseer and hadith to hundreds of students through tv and other platforms. He is currently teaching Umdatul Ahkaam in London and intends to finish the tafseer of al-Quran in the coming years.

Ustadh Adnan has worked with internationally renowned dawah organisations such as Mercy Mission, iERA and Convivencia. He has lead a number of dawah missions to Africa. He served as Senior Researcher as well as lecturer while working with iERA. He is currently serving as Khateeb in a number of West London mosques, where he regularly delivers Friday khutbahs. The Ustadh takes a keen interest in comparative religion and has debated a number of high profile figures such as Dr James White (Alpha and Omega Ministeries) and Dr Ed Buckner (American Atheists).

Ustadh Adnan Rashid is an Islamic numismatician (coins specialist) as well as a bibliophile (book collector). He has inherited a vast library of historical manuscripts from his ancestors and is himself a deeply interested researcher into Islamic heritage. He has been collecting historical manuscripts from the Indian subcontinent on hadith, tafseer, history and poetry. The Ustadh also takes keen interest in literature and is an occasional poet himself. He has authored a short book (Islam’s War on Terror) on the history of Islam and is currently working on the expanded second edition. In this book the Ustadh argues that the advent of Islam in the seventh century was one of the best things that happened to mankind.

The Ustadh has lectured and conducted debates in internationally renowned universities such as the American University of Beirut (Lebanon); the University of Warsaw (Poland); the Trinity College Dublin (Ireland); the NUST University (Pakistan) etc. In Britain, the Ustadh has lectured in most major universities in the country for dawah purposes.

This podcast does not aim to denigrate Islam or to spread a religion.  Simply put this is an effort to get people talking more openly about religion and focused on finding common ground and understanding.

Around the world the loudest voices that focus on Islam are usually on the far extremes of the topic.  Either speakers love or hate Islam.  This is a discussion rooted in facts; and by design those facts are relayed to the public in a form that most can understand.
