We’d love to hear from you! Please leave a comment or question. A rating and review is much appreciated too! Divorce is a cruel monster. It sweeps away our self-confidence, unnerves our soul, and leaves us wondering how we will take the next step to rebuild our lives. In this episode, we will hear one man’s story of how he suffered a major career set-back that was the impetus for a holistic and deep view of personal transformation. His story has many parallels to divorce.
Demetrius Russell is a Director of Human Resources and a true thought leader in the world of professional development. He is accustomed to mentoring others to achieve their true potential. He is a people whisperer – speaking life into those who feel beaten down by missteps on the job and opening the window to their true potential and calling.
When Demetrius lost his job - admittedly his own fault - he knew he needed to step back and take time for a personal transformation. His transformation was distinguished by three key elements: spiritual health, mental health, and physical health. His journey was 382 days in the making. In the process of becoming stronger spiritually and mentally, he lost more than 50 pounds. He gained the confidence to secure his next position as a Human Resources Director for a global company where he is thriving today. Endurance is going beyond the point you want to give up. Demetrius endured despair, self-doubt, and tremendous worry, and now shares his story to encourage people wading in the deep waters of divorce.

Sleep is a very vulnerable psychological state and if we do not feel safe and secure in our social environment, it will have severe consequences to our ability to achieve restorative sleep. The brain has a lymphatic system and sleep serves to wash away toxins. Divorce prompts situational stress that leads to sleepless nights, which affects our ability to think logically and rationally at a time we need it most.
Listen as Morgan Adams, a double certified holistic sleep coach shares natural strategies to avoid prescription drugs, reclaim your rest and rediscover the land of bountiful sleep crucial to your good health and clear mind.
Morgan shares her story of going from relying on prescription medications to becoming a holistic sleep coach teaching others the secrets to a good night's rest.

Episode #23 - The Path to Forgiveness
Finding your path to forgive your ex-partner is agonizing. Listen in as Angie Hooper, founder of the Forgiveness Path, shares practical action steps to break free from the pain of divorce and move forward without regrets.
Forgiveness is a timely topic for the holidays as families are gathering and as we are preparing to begin a new year and our minds are centered on transformation. Angie is a practicing attorney and certified professional coach who developed the Forgiveness Path to help people gain mastery over the skill of forgiveness.
There are many myths around forgiveness. One myth is that if we stuff it down, it will go away and we must forgive and forget. Or that forgiveness can only be realized if we are religious; we must tell the other person we have forgiven them; or we are better off following the mantra of "let Karma take care of it."
Angela shares the physical effects of hanging onto hate and the steps we must take to begin living a life free of the mental stronghold hate has on our lives.

It is very common for people who are in divorce to want to obtain a revenge bod. That's when you get revenge on your ex by showing him/her what they are missing. Maybe they are jumping into exercise as a coping mechanism or joining a pickleball group to meet new people. Listen as Jason Robertson, M.D., a non-operative orthopaedic specialist, shares tips on the best way to begin getting active and avoid common injuries.
Dr. Robertson recommends people undergo a functional movement screening to determine what muscle groups or joints are at risk for injuries. That screening can give you a tailored program to strengthen the areas that may be subject to injuries. A functional movement screen is generally available at physical therapists' offices.
Warming up prior to exercise is a must, and Dr. Robertson shares how to do it properly.
While we may want to dive in to an aggressive exercise program to achieve that ideal body, Dr. Robertson suggests you increase activity no more than 10 percent per week and incorporating appropriate rest days. Going aggressive too soon will lead to injuries. If you are injured, he shares guidelines for how soon to seek help.
Dr. Robertson gives unique insight into his work with professional sports teams and how he is inspired by his work.

After decades of marriage, many people find themselves in a battle with their inner critic. I'm unhappy. Should I stay or should I leave my marriage? Sometimes, the decision ping pongs back and forth for months and even years, while life is suspended in veritable quicksand. We are held held hostage in our unhappiness and chained to inaction, unable to make a move in either direction. There are so many things to consider in that very difficult decision: money, the adult children, shared property, losing it all. What if you could go to someone who could aid you in discerning the best path forward for you? Join the Silver Divorce Podcast as Ellen Holtzman, a psychologist with more than 30 years of experience, shares how Discernment Counseling helps individuals and couples gain clarity around the decision to stay in the marriage or leave.
Ellen authored "Bouncing Back. How Women Lose and Find Themselves in Marriage and Divorce," which describes the painful journey many women experienced to find themselves and thrive again. Substance abuse is cited as the main factor in nearly 35 percent of divorces. Older adults are using opioids, alcohol, marijuana, and heroin at increasing rates. So much so, that it is being called the silent epidemic. Listen as Debbie Loudermilk, the Director of Outpatient Services for the Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, discusses why this is happening at increasing rates and who is most at risk.
Drug abuse among older adults is often hard to detect because the signs and symptoms mimic those of old age. Substance abuse can have a significant negative effect on diabetes, heart failure, and raise one's risk for heart attack.
Debbie shares the signals that someone is abusing drugs or alcohol, as well as how to go about discussing it with a loved one, if you suspect substance abuse is happening.
