Jeremy Ryan Mossman is the founder of Body-Based Voice Ped and has presented at global events for the likes of The Voice Foundation, Voice Study Centre, and the Musical Theater Educators Alliance and has spoken about many topics, including fascia-based techniques. Jeremy is a contributing author, a 500-hour certified yoga teacher, and a Feldenkrais Practitioner in training. Jeremy Mossman is a teacher of voice, movement, and wholistic expression, currently living in Ontario, Canada. He has recently moved on from academic teaching after 15+ years in order to focus on teaching in more creative and integrative ways while sharing his passion for wholly embodied singing.
Jeremy is a 500-hour certified yoga teacher, and is also in training to be a Feldenkrais Practitioner. Education Committee Chair of PAMA, the Performing Arts Medicine Association, Dr. Kat Cottrell joins Alexa this week. Kat is a pianist, flautist, and percussionist turned GP and now cares for performing artists at the Musicians Clinics of Canada, supporting them with both mental and physical challenges related to their profession. Kat is here to discuss PAMA and is bringing us news of the PAMAthon, a free 24-hour event on the 9th of September.

Dr. Kat Cottrell attended the Junior Royal Northern College of Music growing up, playing piano, percussion, and flute. Great joy came from accompanying choirs over the years. She studied medicine at Imperial College London for its proximity to the Royal College of Music and Royal Albert Hall. After working in the UK for a couple of years she discovered the Musicians' Clinics of Canada based near Toronto, creating a new dream of moving to Canada. As a GP in Canada, she is now privileged enough to care for performing artists at the Musicians' Clinics of Canada, supporting them with both mental and physical challenges related to their profession. She is also a Board Member and Education Committee Chair of the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA), an international organisation made up of medical professionals, artists, educators, and administrators all working to improve the healthcare of performing artists.

Joining Alexa this week is Sarah Summers, who is a musical director, choir leader and vocal health first aider based in Swindon, UK. Sarah runs four choirs, including one for unpaid carers and another for staff and retired employees of the Great Western Hospitals Trust. She is currently studying on the MA Vocal Health pathway with the Voice Study Centre and has published some of her work with the Singing for Health Network. Sarah's research focus lies on the emotional well-being benefits and ethics of running a community choir.

Sarah Summers is a choir leader and vocal health first aider based in Swindon. As a leader of community choirs, her work is largely informed by her training in vocal health. Michele Weir is widely distinguished for her work in vocal jazz education and arranging. She served as vocal producer and contributing arranger for the Manhattan Transfer album, Chick Corea Songbook, and her vocal arrangements are performed by notable groups, including Swingle Singers and New York Voices, with instrumental works played by the Boston Pops, among others. Michele has delivered teaching and lecture presentations all over the world, and pioneered an educational path for vocal improvisers through the creation of her iOS app, ScatAbility. She is the author of several educational books in jazz. Her online school, MusicHabit, is a popular resource for jazz singers, pianists and educators. Michele's past performance ranges from headliner concerts at numerous educational festivals to touring internationally as pianist and vocalist with singer Bobby Vinton. Michele was a member of the Grammy-Nominated vocal group PM Singers and served as dubbing supervisor for the DreamWorks film Prince of Egypt in Mexico, Greece, Denmark, Portugal, Thailand and Japan.

Duncan is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) and West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He has an active career as an operatic baritone performing roles at many of the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera, Glyndebourne, English National Opera, Teatro Real and the Boston Lyric Opera. As a baritone soloist, he has recorded and performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Duncan also works as a nutritionist and nutritional science writer. He holds a Masters of Science in Nutritional Science and an advanced diploma in nutrition and weight management.

His speciality is combining his parallel fields of study and providing nutritional information for performing artists. He is cognisant, from an academic and personal standpoint, of the heavy demands of a busy performing and travel schedule. He has been using his knowledge of diet and nutrition to propel his own career and help other performers attain optimal vocal and physical health.

She is a BAPAM Registered SLT and Vocal Rehabilitation Coach and has over 25 years’ of experience as a singer and singing teacher, adding to her skillset when she qualified as a Speech & Language Therapist in 2012.

With a wealth of knowledge in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions related to her specialist field, she splits her time working in independent voice therapy practice, is clinical lead for Voice at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, and is co-founder of VitaVoice: a wellbeing company with health and prevention of voice issues at their heart…Good health for great voices!

She holds a degree in Popular Music Performance, is a qualified teacher of music, and spent 9 years working in FE/HE music education alongside recording and performing original music and working in tribute and cover bands across the UK. All of this alongside her classical singing training at Birmingham Conservatoire as a teenager has contributed towards her empathy and compassion for the demands which exist for vocalis
