We talk Shelbys journey from a small town in Illinois to moving to Atlanta. Shelby went to school on an Acting Scholarship. Shelby moved to Atlanta to start her career on set as a stylist. Shelby really enjoyed being onset, and got her feet wet by being behind the scenes. We talk her journey to begin acting herself. After she began acting she noticed she kept getting sad roles to read, she didn't enjoy the sad roles, and she wanted to do something more fun/creative... So thats when she started doing stand up!
She started creating her own content & began feeling freedom from the content she created. Once she began creating content of her own, she began getting more opportunities in both comedy and acting! We talk how your next opportunity will always come through a person.
We talk about how to balance comedy, life, acting, and so much more. She talks what to do when you're not feeling funny. She talks knowing yourself and knowing when you need to take a break. She talks knowing yourself and knowing when to fill up your tank. We also talk ways to balance, and how to still be creative while running a business. We talk differences between male and female comics & some of the stereotypes that come…And of course, we talk about the last time she cried!
We talk all things Handup Standup & the origin story of this beautiful business. She got her start early on at local open mics around the city, with her first show at the Tin Roof Cantina, drawing a great crowd… and they haven’t been able to escape her since, since she was able to turn that into a regular hosting gig. See? Made for the spotlight!
While she has appeared on Adult Swim and has been featured on HLN Network, Shelby is also happy to play in the background (specifically in wardrobe, by making her actors look fabulous in various films and television productions).
She has also assisted on multiple platforms including FOX, Esquire Magazine, and a few national commercials. Shelby is thrilled to be a part of the Hand Up Stand Up team, because helping people matters and the spotlight really is better when shared.
When that feisty Italian family of Shelby’s isn’t busy inspiring her, they’re probably busy being disappointed by her dark humor instead.
