Happy Halloween Week! Trick or Treat?
It is Halloween week, and if you chose "trick" you are in luck, because while we are talking about literature this week, the title of this episode is very misleading! Skylar was in charge of the drinks this week and due to procrastination she went with the quick fix of some Cayman Jack premixed margaritas. (She will say they taste like sprite, and she is only semi correct)
The book we are discussing in this weeks episode is the very popular book: 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This book is a historical fiction novel that was published in 2017. It tells the story of the Old Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo doing a "tell-all" interview to an unknown journalist. In which, she spills all of her secrets and finally tells her truth.
We tend to have some very long episodes from time to time, our literature episodes especially are always on the long side, so this is actually going to be our first 2-part episode! We will discuss the first half of this book, and then next week we will finish the book and discuss some general questions about it. As always, spoiler warnings for these 2 episodes, we talk about all of the juicy details and twists and turns. It's a fun book, though. Welcome to another episode!
This week we are talking about some true crime! While this isn't a pleasant topic, we do get to drink something we like. Skylar sips on some Seagram's Peach Bellini's while Brittany is sipping on a gin & tonic.
This week, Skylar is going first to discuss a very rough case. Trigger Warning's for her case: murder, rape, torture, & incest. Please note that this is a very rough and disturbing case, and while Skylar doesn't go into too many details it could still be upsetting for some listeners. This week she is talking about David Parker Ray, who is also known as the toy-box killer. It's believed that he has tortured & killed over 50 women and is just a horrible garbage human.
In an attempt to lighten to mood from Skylar's case, Brittany discusses 5 different cases that all involve animal criminals. From a suspected spy to a stalker, and even an animal that actually served 15 years in prison. These are lighthearted & a little silly, but still technically true crime!

September 08, 2021 [Ep.27 Culture, Travel, & Language] There & Back Again, A Catholic Tale: Light Academia Cottagecore + Demons
Welcome to another episode!
This week we are back on our couch classroom to hopefully teach you a few things. So get your notebooks ready! We are going to be doing this while enjoying some glasses of Stella Rosa: Moscato D'asti. (With notes of pear & apple, and according to Brittany: popcorn)
Brittany is going to discuss some history facts and things to see/travel to in Vatican City. Vatican City is important to a lot of different people for various reasons. It, of course, is a very holy and religious place to many. While neither of us are Catholic or all that religious in general, some religion history will be discussed as neutrally as possible. Nothing is to be taken in offense, as we never mean to offend. Vatican City is also a really important place as far as art history goes. So Brittany will do a combination on general history + art history in her segment.
Skylar is going to touch on some basics with teaching us Latin. She is very new to learning Latin herself, so this segment will be a very basic introduction into the beginnings of learning any new language. Some light vocabulary, sentence structure, and pronunciation will be covered. Skylar would like to remind everyone that she is by no means an expert or an official teacher. She is simply someone who loves to learn, loves to share her passions, and loves languages. She is completely self-taught, and she is constantly trying to better learn herself in all areas, this, of course, includes the Latin language.
As we are both just trying this episode to teach ourselves more about the world, and hopefully you as well, we are completely open and willing to learning more on the subject, or if there are any corrections anyone might have to share with us.

August 25, 2021 [Ep.26 Literature] A Tale of Two Very Good Dweebs
Welcome to another episode!
This week we are talking about a very special book, because our topic is literature! Brittany was in charge of the drinks this week and, feeling inspired from the book, she came up with a special cocktail just for the occasion. They are enjoying: A Peach-Berry Whiskey-Sangria. To make this: add 2 cups of mixed berries, a whole bottle of peach wine, & 1/4-1/2 cup whiskey to a pitcher. Let infuse together in the fridge for a few hours. Top with a bottle of champagne right before serving. Enjoy!
The book we are discussing in this weeks episode is the very popular book: 'Red, White & Royal Blue' by Casey McQuiston. This book follows First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz and his growing relationship with his "longtime nemesis" Prince Henry. This book covers a variety of important topics but ultimately is about understanding yourself, and love and acceptance.
Much like our last Literature episode, this one is a long one. So hopefully you have some chores or some traveling to do while you listen. Once again, the whole book is pretty much discussed from cover to cover. So BIG spoiler warning, but it's a really great book. We would love it if you experienced it with us. Be sure to give some big props to Skylar for this one, she does the majority of the discussion and we recorded for almost 6 hours, I know she was probably tired of talking by the end. (Hence our weird outro. Whoops!)

Welcome to another episode!
This week we are discussing the topic: ancient! Brittany was in charge of the drinks this week, and went with some hard ciders. Skylar is sipping on an Apple Pie Cider, while Brittany is having "Rainbow Seeker" which is a Pineapple + Sage flavored cider. Both are from Blake's Hard Ciders.
Hopefully everyone has done some stretches before listening to this episode because, Brittany's segment covers a topic that is a little bit of a reach for "ancient". Hopefully though you'll let her slide just a little bit. This week Brittany discusses the "Lion's Gate Portal" This is an astrological/spiritual event that takes place every year on August 8th (when this episode was recorded) but this year, it was even more special!
Skylar dips her toes into the history of Ancient Egypt. More specifically: the Egyptian mythology on the creation of the world.

August 04, 2021 [Ep.24 Cooking] Sibling Squabbles in a Small Kitchen
Welcome to another episode!
We are back in the kitchen once again! This week we also have a special guest: Skylar's younger brother, Bret, who is currently home on leave. He decided to spend an evening yelling with us in the kitchen. Skylar picked the meal so we are enjoying a Spinach-Artichoke Chicken Pasta Casserole and homemade breadsticks. Since Skylar cheated last time, we are all having to drink something we don't like. Skylar & Bret are both having a Gin & Tonic, while Brittany is having a Dirty Martini. We didn't have a whole lot of talking topics prepared so this is a very casual episode where we are just chatting, hearing some young Skylar stories, and asking Bret questions from our previous cooking episodes. (Skylar also uses this episode to challenge how much her brother knows her.)

Welcome to another episode!
This week we are getting to cover the topic: mystical! This is especially exciting, because this was actually the only topic left on the wheel that we hadn't spun yet. Brittany got to pick the drink and she created a rosé-gin cocktail, complete with muddled grapefruit & lemon and with edible gold glitter.
Brittany gives a very shallow dive into the origins and evolution into the divination art of tarot reading. She also addresses some myths and superstitions associated with the practice. She even gives Skylar a very sloppy "past-life inspired reading" at the end of her segment.
Skylar gives a basic rundown on astrology. This is a good refresher on things you might already know or probably do know if you are super into astrology, but she also takes it even farther with some astrology facts and break downs you might not know!
*We really enjoyed this topic, and of course like everything else we cover, we are in no way professionals, so just take this for what it is: two curious and open minds who like to talk about fun and interesting things!

We have recovered from last week's "Sip N Spin in the morning" and are now back to our normal schedule. Please note though, that Skylar was a little bit under the weather for this recording so she may seem a little bit gloomy this week, but she was a trooper and came through.
