I was fortunate enough to be invited into the headquarters of Melbourne born and bred streetwear label ICHPIG to chat with co-owner and operator Nate. ICHPIG was established 12 years ago and to this day is one of the most relevant champions of culture in Australia and especially in the Melbourne underground. On top of being great guys with a great outlook, they actually make really really amazing clothing and I was so impressed by the detail and authenticity in every single piece of theirs.

This conversation was a real highlight for me as it represented my first in-person sit down with someone outside of the music industry, and has definitely opened the door to a world of possibilities where I can continue to chat to cool people and brands doing cool things. As well as this, I am a huge believer in the value that ICHPIG is adding to Melbourne's hip-hop and music scenes through collaboration and sponsorship and truly believe they are doing great work in these spaces.

Sup gang - welcome to Episode 56 of Slaaap Haaapy!!

My man Ivan Ooze dropped by Slap Happy to have a good ol fashioned chin wag. Ooze and I go way back after supporting him on 2 of his tours and playing some of the funnest shows of my life on those tours, so when he hit me up to have a chat I was absolutely down.

Ooze has done just about everything you can do as a rising hip-hop talent in this country, from playing at Splendour to touring the country multiple times, as well as collaborating with Ghostface Killah and supporting all of the biggest national and international rap stars. His energy has always been electric on stage, but his off stage demeanor and passion for his craft is something that I have always wholeheartedly admired - the man takes time out for his fans, and they support him with great conviction as a result.

The chat was thoroughly enjoyed by both parties and the vibes were amazing as we tackled the start of Ivan's career and the epic come up that came with it, all the way through to his recent break from music as a result of feeling the pressure of being in the spotlight and having your work and character critiqued. 

Ben is a proper character and one of the really good guys in the scene and I wish him all the success! xo

Wesley Black is a Perth based rapper/singer/creatitve that I met at a show a couple of months back and connected with instantly. I was really captivated by his energy and warmth and his ability to converse with everyone in the room. I've since been impressed with his work rate, consistency and committment to his craft and knew I had to get him on the pod.

After a whole day of shooting a music video for his next clip and with a flight only hours away, Wes made the effort to come chat with me on the podcast, for which I am very grateful.

Airports aka Northie aka Lil Shrimp aka Papa aka Aaron, is one of my longest friends in life, and probably my longest standing friendship in music. We originate from the Central Coast of NSW and have shared many many highs and lows together, playing dingy hip-hop bars and jumping on some really cool supports/festivals. Throughout the twists and turns of an almost decade long friendship, our bond has remained strong and our ambitions to be successful music entrepreneurs is still intact.

Airports is one of the most multi-faceted and skilled people I have ever come across, he is a true professional in every sense and a person who has taught me a lot about hustle and ambition. He has has had a great deal of success both as an artist and as a writer/producer in his life, and I'm sure there is much much more to come.

We went deep on his origins story, how he changed his name from Bl1tz to Thirty30 and how he develop an organic relationship with rūku which has blossomed into a powerful collaborative force.

Thirty is a workhorse and his output since changing his name in 2021 has been epic - putting out regular singles, an EP, music videos and features, as well as playing a tonne of shows. In this episode I speak with Central Coast raised music industry vet, Rob Carroll. Rob is currently the Managing Director of Good Intent and Good Loco, and manages Bootleg Rascal, Close Counters, Down For Tomorrow, FANGZ and Good Lekker. 

Over his time in music publicity, Rob has worked with the likes of Yungblud (UK), Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale, Dune Rats, Bam Margera (USA), Freddie Gibbs (USA), Luude, A.GIRL, Chugg Music, TMRW Music, Handsome Tours, Astral People and Universal. He's also worked on numerous festivals, events and industry showcases in various capacities.
