Oof… This case. Too soon. Too sad. Too much WTF…  And yet, here we are. There truly is no way to sugarcoat what happened to 9-year old Melina Frattolin, who was visiting her father, Luciano, the owner of a supposedly successful coffee business.  

But like most things in this case — there’s the truth and there’s the story that Luciano tells.  And that story includes a tale of a white van pulling up to where Luciano and Melina were hanging out by the side of the road — and several kidnappers jumping out and taking the young girl.

Thus begins a tale of abduction, Amber Alerts, and a horrific discovery in a nearby wooded pond area. This case is not for the faint of heart but then again, neither are we. As always, thanks for joining us and please stay safe out there!

Hey Slaycaters (and music fans) we’re taking you back to 1973 and the Summer Jam concert in Watkins Glen, New York.  The headliners were The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers and The Band and over 600,000 people showed up to the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Raceway. 

 Among the concert-goers were 16 year old Michael Weiser and 15 year old Bonnie Bickwit, two very smart and loving kids from Brooklyn, NY.  Without a car, the pair decided to hitchhike to the show.

OK Slaycaters, this episode starts with us taking a deep breath…something you’re going to want to do multiple times throughout this episode as we tell the equal parts horrifying, mystifying and frustrating case of Elliot Blair and Kim Blair-Williams — two young, public defenders spending their first wedding anniversary in Mexico.  

Without giving away any details, let’s just say in a town known for Police corruption, while staying at a hotel whose name literally translates to ‘The Rocks’ — the turn of events that befell our young lawyers almost seems foreshadowed.  But of course, the gory details make this so much worse. Hey Slaycaters, welcome to what might be the most insane case we’ve ever covered on this show. Which is really saying a lot. Not only does this case take place literally in our backyard of the East Village of New York City, at a time (late 80’s/early 90’s) when all three of us were in and around the area — but what actually transpired is beyond the scope of any nightmare you could imagine.

The less you know the better — but let’s just say poor Monika Beerle, a 26-year old dancer from Switzerland could not have found a worse roommate situation…or a worse roommate than Daniel Rakowitz, a man known for walking around Tompkins Square Park with his pet rooster. Here is the untraceable way for you to send the fee…  Now obviously you’re way too smart to ever fall for a scam like this — but believe it or not, hundreds of people do…including  Heidi Muth, a teacher from California.

Hey Slaycaters, we’re back with another shocking, mysterious death in Mexico — this time, beloved actress Carol Wayne, most known for playing the ‘Matinee Lady’ in sketches with Johnny Carson. Without giving too much away, let’s just say a fight with her travel companion in Manzanillo, Mexico led to Carol storming off.  The next time she was seen — she’d be on the news, not The Tonight Show. 

This case, from 1985, is chock full of suspicious circumstances and an investigation that ranges from shoddy to shady — fueling a host of theories and conjecture to this very day!
