సమాచారం సమీక్ష - A Telugu News Podcast

డిసెంబర్ 1న జరగనున్న GHMC ఎన్నికల సందర్భంలో, పార్టీలు ప్రజలకు ఇచ్చే వాగ్ధానాల జాబితా రోజు రోజు కి పెరుగుతూ ఉంది. వీటిలో కొన్ని కలహాలు రేపే విధంగా ఉంటే, కొన్ని GHMC పరిధిలో లేనివి కూడా ఉన్నాయి. మూడు ప్రధాన పార్టీలు – తెరాస, ఎం.ఐ.ఎం, బీజేపీ – మధ్య హోరా హోరీగా  ఎన్నికల  ప్రచారం  సాగుతుంది. వీటన్నింటి నడుమ, అసలు ప్రజలు కోరుకునే సౌకర్యాలు, కనీస వసతులు ఏంటి అనే అంశాల గురించి నేటి చర్చ. ఈ వారాం సమాచారం సమీక్ష ఎపిసోడ్ లో, అయిషా మిన్హాజ్ ప్రజల నుండి సేకరించిన అభిప్రయాలని చర్చిస్తాము.

(With GHMC elections scheduled to be held on December 1, the sops being showered are increasing, some growing absurd by the day. The three leading contenders — TRS, MIM, BJP — are engaged in a highly charged election campaign. Considering that this an election that impacts the basic amenities part of our lives, Suno India contributor Ayesha Minhaz spoke to people to find out what they want from this election and from GHMC. (Nehru Zoological Park of Hyderabad is a well-known landmark and tourist attraction spread over 380acres. Usually buzzing with activity, this was shut for over seven months due to the COVID19 lockdown. The Zoo recently opened for public again.

In this week’s Samacharam Sameeksha, host Ayesha Minhaz spoke to curator N Kshitija, veterinarian MA Hakeem, and senior zookeeper R Paapayya. They discuss the COVID19 losses, the interest shown by children to adopt animals during the tough time, behavioural changes, and the health of the animals. (For over two years now, the State Women’s Commission of Telangana hasn’t had a chairperson. For over two years, the women of Telangana haven’t been able to benefit from a fully functioning women’s commission. Activists, women’s organisations, lawyers and the media have been voicing concerns and submitting representations to the government of Telangana, but in vain.  This week’s Samacharam Sameeksha episode discusses the role and responsibilities of women’s commission, what a fully functioning commission can achieve, what the women of Telangana are losing out on and why we seem to have forgotten about the existence of this statutory body. Suno India contributor Ayesha Minhaz spoke to lawyer Vasudha Nagaraj for this episode. In October, the High Court of Telangana appointed Vasudha Nagaraj as amicus curiae in the PIL related to this.)

అక్టోబర్ నెలలో హైదరాబాద్ నగరాన్ని కుదిపేసిన వర్షం, వరదల కారణంగా ఎన్నో కాలనీలలో ఇళ్లలోకి నీళ్లు రావడం, ప్రజలు ఎంతో కష్టపడి కొనుక్కున్న సామాన్లు, వాహనాలు నాశనం అవ్వడం జరిగింది. దాదాపు వందేళ్ల తర్వాత హైదరాబాద్ నగరంలో ఇంతటి వర్షాలు పడ్డాయని వాతావరణ శాఖ తెలిపింది. కానీ ఈ వరదలకు వర్షం మాత్రమే కారణం కాదు. ఈ సందర్భంగా నగరంలో అవసరమైన మేరకు స్టార్మ్ వాటర్ డ్రెయిన్లు లేకపోవడం, చెరువులలో ఆక్రమణల వంటి సమస్యల‌ గురించిన చర్చ మరోసారి ప్రారంభమైంది.

(Heavy rains and floods lashed Hyderabad’s city in October, flooding homes in many colonies and destroying hard-earned goods and vehicles. The city of Hyderabad received heavy rains almost 100 years later, the Met office said. But rain is not the only cause of these floods.To discuss issues such as the lack of storm water drains in the city and encroachments of the ponds, Ayesha Minhaz spoke to ICLEI Deputy Director Soumya Chaturvedi during this week’s Samacharam Sameeksha episode.)

(ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ గ్రంథాలయ సంఘం 1914 లో గ్రంథాలయ ఉద్యమం సందర్భంగా స్థాపించబడింది. 20 వ శతాబ్దం ప్రారంభంలో, స్వతంత్ర ఉద్యమంతో పాతే  'గ్రంథాలయ ఉద్యమం' ఒక ముఖ్యమైన సామాజిక ఉద్యమం గా మారింది. ప్రజలను చైతన్య పరిచే ఉద్ధేశంతో పలు ప్రాంతాలకు వ్యాప్తి చెందింది. కానీ ఈరోజు పరిస్థితులు వేరు. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ తెలంగాణ లలో మొత్తమ్మీద 1600 గ్రంథాలయాలు మాత్రమే ఉన్నాయి. ఉన్నవి కూదా దయనీయమైన పరిస్తితిలో ఉన్నాయి. అంతేకాక 2014 లో విభజన తరువాత, ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌కు ఇంకా రాష్ట్ర కేంద్ర గ్రంథాలయం లేదు.

(The Andhra Pradesh Library Association was established in 1914 during the Library Movement. At the turn of the 20th century, Telugu people took to a literary movement—The Library Movement, to support the larger Indian Freedom Struggle. They set up libraries with a strong belief that only empowered individuals can benefit the freedom movement. Soon, they formed the Andhra Pradesh Library Association to spread to different parts of the Telugu regions aiding various people’s movements.. However, the situation is different today. Between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, there are only 1600 libraries. Those which exist are in dire need of attention in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Further, post the bifurcation in 2014, Andhra Pradesh does not yet have a State Central Library.  

In this backdrop, Sai Priya Kodidala speaks to Dr. Raavi Sarada, Secretary of the century-old Andhra Pradesh Library Association to understand the Library movement and why it is relevant for us to remember today. Sai Priya Kodidala also runs The Telugu Archive tracing Telugu literature, art and history. )

(Ahead of the Telangana assembly sessions, recently, a Praja Assembly was held to discuss public issues. Civil society organisations, social activists, intellectuals and lawyers in the state came together to organise three full-day sessions with experts from each sector. The stagnant growth, long-standing problems, temporary problems, actions to be taken in various sectors in the state were discussed at length and on the fourth day a meeting was held with the public representatives and resolutions were presented to them.

This week’s Samaacharam Sameeksha episode looks at the details of these sessions.

For this episode, Ayesha Minhaz discussed these issues with the convener of Raithu Swarajya Vedika Ravi Kanneganti. The episode also carries parts of the Praja Assembly sessions: founding member of Telangana Hijra Intersex Transgender Samiti Rachana Mudraboyina, Telangana Domestic Workers' Union (TDWU) Sayola Renuka, and testimony of a family member of a farmer who died by suicide. )

(Bhumika was started as a magazine in the 1990s in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh to put forth feminist perspectives. The magazine grew bigger and eventually became Bhumika Women's Collective. Today, among several other things, they also run a helpline for women in distress. Today's episode is about the work Bhumika does in helping survivors of domestic violence, how the women are supported, the fight that Bhumika collective has been putting up.

(Paalaguttapalle is a Dalit hamlet in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. Most people in Paalaguttapalle are agricultural labourers. As drought struck a few years ago and agricultural work slowed down, a few women of the village got together to make cloth bags. How they grew to a team of nine today, how they operate, the journey of their bags from Paalaguttapalle to places across India and even the UK, is the story Ayesha Minhaz speaks about today. The story is narrated by the women of Paalaguttapalle themselves.

(Over the past six months, NREGA has become a support to not just the regular job seekers, but those who returned to the villages post COVID-19 and lockdown. With increased demand, most states have nearly exhausted the funds for this financial year. This includes Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. However, there haven't been many efforts to tackle this from the state or central governments.
