  • Why Google Isn't Always Right…

You think Google is always right? Have you ever noticed, people when asked a question and if they don’t know the answer, they say I’ll Google it! Are we really sure that Google pops out the right answers for you? Are you certain that the result displayed can’t be just a “version” or a “perception” of that particular author? Can you claim with certainty that the author is a professional in that particular field? Most of them are sure about it. That’s the sad truth about our perception of Google.

    –

There’s also another phase to it. I’ve seen people who, when asked a question, Google it and show some blog article as a proof. They show off some content that was posted by some random author, who we don’t even know about. How can we be sure that what they’ve written is right? Can you just blindly go with a statement to be right, when it claims something? Is every result that pops up on your search engine result is supposed to be true?

    –

Google! What do you think of it?

  • Why do we take Technology for Granted?

My grandparents were born into what has been called the “greatest generation,” when people appreciated the little things in a period full of war and hardship.

    –

My parents are the product of that generation, the “baby boomers,” who lived through a time when people celebrated their newfound prosperity and rallied for rights and change. So, what does that make us? My Generation which is GenX grew up in an amazing time BUT my concern is the current generation from the 90s onwards that are consumed and take technology for granted.

    –

Technological innovations that make our lives easier are seen as a birthright. And it is this sense of entitlement to technology or an easy way of doing things that is going to threaten our ability to function as human beings. While I’ve heard it argued that our skills have merely shifted towards technology and that it is natural that certain activities should become obsolete, I think this skims over the key issue at hand.

    –

A skill deficit where the current young generation can’t boil water or do laundry has nothing to do with technology. Many of us merely lack those skills. For other tasks expedited by technology, we need to remember that these innovations are not foolproof; every once in a while they fail.

    –

Even if technology was infallible, we must also realize that we are by no means entitled to an easy way of doing things at all times.

    –

Though we no longer hunt or farm our own food like previous generations, there are some skills that are valuable for us to continue learning – not just instrumentally, but simply because they promote self-sufficiency.

  • What Causes Déjà Vu?

Does this all feel a little familiar? Called déjà vu, that sensation may be your brain correcting its own errors. Déjà vu means “already seen” in French, a term possibly coined by French philosopher Émile Boirac in a letter to the editor of Revue Philosophique de la France et de l’Étranger in 1876. Boirac speculated that perhaps residues of long-forgotten perceptions triggered the feeling. There is now some laboratory evidence that vague similarities between one scene and another can indeed lead to déjà vu.

    –

In a 2009 study, some researchers found that viewing sneakily similar scenes was more likely to cause feelings of déjà vu than viewing dissimilar scenes—suggesting that perhaps there is some environmental trigger for the brain to call out, “Hey, I recognize that!” even when it’s never seen the scene before.

    –

What do you think? Is this a matter of premonition or just the brain doing a self check up?

  • The Illusion of Perception

Most of the time, the story our brains generate matches the real, physical world — but not always. Our brains also unconsciously bend our perception of reality to meet our desires or expectations. And they fill in gaps using our past experiences.

    –

Perception science, for me, provokes a similar question. If the science tells us our brains are making up a “story” about reality, shouldn’t we be curious about, and even seek out the answers to, how that reality might be wrong?

    –

It’s not about doubting everything that comes through our senses. It’s about looking for our blind spots, with the goal of becoming better thinkers. It can also help with empathy. When other people misperceive reality, we may not agree with their interpretation, but we can understand where it comes from.

  • Aftermath of the So-Called Freedom Protests

In the year since the convoy, many Ottawa residents have expressed how hard it is for them to shake a feeling of unease. During the official inquiry into the protests, locals described the lingering trauma they continue to experience.

    –

As shared by one parent: “So in the middle of it all, in this surreal time when I felt an overwhelming responsibility for the safety and well-being of an entire neighborhood … we had to take our daughter, who was 15, and we had to move her out of the city to go stay with friends,” they said. “So that would always stick with me. That day will always stick with me.”

    –

Ottawa police were overwhelmed and unprepared, leaving little recourse for the locals who lived and worked in the area that the demonstrators against COVID-19 restrictions decided to occupy.

    –

Meanwhile, many of the figures who rose to prominence during the convoy protests — and their supporters — continue to spread COVID-19 misinformation to their audiences today, according to Stephanie Carvin, a former Canadian Security Intelligence Service analyst who now teaches at Carleton University. “I think the key thing that surprises me is that they haven’t really moved on,” she said. “It’s still about the pandemic.”

    –

The convoy movement has been plagued by infighting as some organizers attempted to re-capture the energy of the February protest. But Carvin said she worries that Canada’s institutions still don’t know how to deal with the misinformation and conspiracies that fanned the flames of the convoy. “There’s no sense to me that they’re prepared to deal with the more extreme elements of this wider, polarized movement,” she said.

    –

Divisions linger even after convoy left. Families, friendships and many other relations still suffer with divide. For what and why? Was all this worth it for an action that was more harmful then beneficial?

  • Annoying Friends with New Relationships

There’s nothing worse than meeting your amazing friend’s new significant other and realizing you… do NOT like him or her. But there’s a big difference between thinking ‘Hmmm, definitely not good enough for my BFF’ versus having a legit reason to dislike the person, so before you panic, consider these points in this episode.

    –

Your friend is so wrapped up in this new relationship for whatever reason cause and they have been single for long. Sometimes they lose all logic and common sense. You can see their new partner as trouble even before they do. This can cost a friendship at times but you need to tell them on occasion.

  • What is chronophobia and what we can do about it?

It’s too late for me to start my own business. I’m too old to take driving lessons or start learning a new language. Do you ever feel like time is working against you? Or do you feel like blaming the famous animated clock-eater, Big Muzzy, for eating all your precious time? As a result, you believe that activities you do in your everyday life aren’t meaningful enough.

    –

If so, you’re dealing with time anxiety, a quite common issue in today’s society. In this episode, we’ll shed light on time anxiety and explain:

    • chronophobia,
    • time anxiety symptoms,
    • how to prevent time anxiety attacks, and
    • how to stop being anxious about time.

    • Spoil your Seniors and Discipline your Youth

Aging is a natural process and is accompanied by various challenges. The biological process of aging is associated with the degeneration of organs, which results in different physical and mental health problems. Dependence on family members is associated with the development of different needs and expectations among older people, including the need for support and respect.

      –

If you’ve ever known kids who are not regularly disciplined by their parents, you’ve probably seen some very stark examples of why it’s important to discipline children. Discipline is not only good for children, but it is also necessary for their happiness and well-being.1 Discipline is as vital for healthy child development as nutritious food, physical and cognitive exercises, love, and other basic needs. Without discipline, children lack the tools necessary to navigate relationships and challenges in life such as self-discipline, respect for others, and cooperating with peers.

      –

Contrary to what some parents may mistakenly believe, children who are not regularly disciplined are not happy. In fact, failure to discipline children often results in kids who are unhappy, angry, and even resentful.

      –

In this Episode we are bringing light to where as children need to learn respect and right from wrong, we also need to protect our aging family. Advocate and protect our aging population as they should have their twilight days be happy and wish fulfilled. Children as at the dawn of their days and need to give me then take.

    • So what is going to be Next for the World?

So what lies ahead? Well into the 2020s, COVID-19 will cast a long shadow over communities, workplaces, markets, battlefields, and negotiating rooms. But even as the centrifugal forces driving the world away from multilateralism and toward multipolarity accelerate, the future is not fixed. We humans have agency in shaping it.

      –

By 2030, the global population will have reached 8.5 billion, and with various planetary boundaries having been exceeded, humanity will face an ever-lengthening list of social challenges caused by global warming, natural disasters, and depletion of biodiversity and resources. The realization of a sustainable global environment is therefore a mission for the whole of humankind.

      –

So, how can society and people future-proof our precious planet?
