Dana and Vincent return from a brief hiatus wherein Vincent made his very first international trip to Mexico to get in touch with his people and to eat more churros! This week's return to their regularly scheduled pop culture kiki is more sad times than most with the death of Luke Perry (Dylan McKay for vida) and a cancer diagnosis for Alex Trebek. In spite of the sad times, the duo manage to find light in the darkness via Solange's new album, the Game of Thrones trailer, "Captain Marvel" and the poise and patience of Gayle King during an R. Kelly tantrum.
Chile, it's time to don your best red carpet fashions and get into the 2nd annual Somewhere Over The Rainbow Podcast Oscar Reelness bonus episode! Vincent and Dana (no Mopsy this year as she was away at taping time) will give you the rundown on their favs in the categories of Best Original Song, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Best Director and Best Picture.
A powerful rainstorm has hit Southern California with winds that almost turned Dana into Mary Poppins, but that will not keep her and Vincent from a kiki over what's new in pop culture from the horrific hate crime attack on Jussie Smollett, to the amazingness of Lizzo and Vincent's obsession with the live version of "Shallow". There's also a discussion on Oscar nominiations (and why there's no love for Julia Roberts), a potential "Beverly Hills 90210" reboot (which rabbit holes into favorite episodes, so gird your loins) a new Lindsay Lohan werewolf movie, the worlds worst tribute to James Ingram and a "Who Asked For This?" moment featuring a Mystic Pizza musical.
Holy 50th episode Batman! If this episode were a gay man, it would live in Palm Springs and talk about most of the things discussed in this episode e.g. how "Green Book" was a movie that barely discussed the actual Green Book, or how whomever competed against Tom Holland in Lip Sync Battle in 2017 was an automatic loser because he bodied Rhianna's "Umbrella" or how Emma Stone stole Lindsay Lohan's career.
After a holiday hiatus, Dana and Vincent return for the first new episode of 2019!! There's a holiday post mortem where Vincent saw Celine Dion and every movie imaginable in less than a week while Dana channeled the spirit of Angela Bassett in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" sans bringing a 21 year old Jamaican home with her. Pop Culture took no rest during the break, so the duo also get into the latest with Cardi B, Tiffany Haddish being "un-ready" for her New Year's Eve show, Ed Sheeran's potential musical plagiarism and reviews of a plethora of films in the "At The Movies" segment.
It's the most wonderful time of the year everyone!! It's time for the second annual Somewhere Over The Rainbow Podcast Holiday Extravaganza bonus episode!! Don your gayest apparel and get your background singers ready for this bonus episode where Dana and Vincent share more of their favorite holiday songs, movies and best moments of 2018 in music, television, and pop culture.
It's the final new episode of 2018 and there are so many awards to cover, including someone coronating themselves as the "King of R&B" at the ripe old age of 24! There's also a "How Did I Miss This Moment" featuring T-Boz (a contender for King of R&B over Jacquees), "Yeah or Meh" featuring a competing podcast with Ron Burgandy (who is also a contender for King of R&B over Jacquees), and a "We See You Girl Award" for Daniel Dae Kim (also a definite contender for King of R&B over Jacquees).
After stuffing themselves over the Thanksgiving holiday, Dana and Vincent return to the land of pop culture (a little lighter thanks to Activia) featuring this week's "Yeah or Meh?" segment with the highly anticipated release of Ariana Grande's video for the song "Thank U, Next", reviews of "Creed II", "Widows" and the SheRa reboot on Netflix and a "How Did I Miss This" moment wherein Dana discovers one of her favorite 80's New Wave acts was on Soul Train.
In a moment of "it's never too late", the world has finally realized the greatness of Mariah Carey's "Glitter" soundtrack, and Dana and Vincent are rejoicing this as well as Mariah's new album "Caution". Additionally, the dynamic duo give their thoughts on simulated fellatio (aka air blow jobs), the new (but not new) Sexiest Man Alive, the American Horror Story: Apocalypse finale, the hotness of Riverdale and more!
DISCLAIMER: SOMEONE DIDN'T HAVE THEIR EXTERNAL MIC CHOSEN FOR THIS RECORDING (HIS NAME RHYMES WITH VINCENT) ERGO, IT SOUNDS LIKE WE'RE IN A TUNNEL. THANKS FOR LISTENING ANYWAY :)
While Vincent comes to terms with the notion that he only has the common cold and not terminal cancer like Eva Peron, the show must go on! This episode is chock full of pop culture goodness including Ariana Grande's ascendance into the Petty Labelle Club for releasing "Thank u, Next" as a slight to her ex Pete Davidson, questions about the songwriting of Patrick Swayze and Paula Abdul, correction of white women who are wrong (we see you Megyn Kelly and Rebel Wilson), this week's "Yeah or Meh", the return of "Who Asked for This" with a "Clueless" remake that's left us, well, clueless.
Dana and Vincent also give their thoughts on "Halloween", "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina".
