Later they speak to Veteran and Chief Nurse executive at UW Health, Rudy Jackson joins Kristin and Brian to talk being honored by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development for their exemplary work for hiring and supporting Veterans with their Wisconsin Military Medics and Corpsman Program.  He explains how their program utilizes their military training to work in a civilian healthcare role. WTMJ hosts Kristin Brey and Brian Noonan began by previewing the show’s topics and discussions. They then went on to talk about the Walt Disney Animation film The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the history of the word sanctuary because of a recent executive order from U.S. President Donald Trump requiring searches for undocumented immigrants in churches and schools. Brian noticed the reality when he received an email from the school he used to work at.

Kristin and Brian continue the conversation on immigration by focusing on the logistics of detainment and the capacity of the one ICE detention facility in Wisconsin.

Healthcare costs take a big toll on small businesses. To talk about it, Kristin Brey and Brian Noonan were joined on the phone by Wonderstate Coffee CEO TJ Semanchin and National Campaigns Director for Main Street Alliance Shawn Phettaplace. TJ shared his experience with healthcare for his employees and how Shawn’s organization is working with the Wisconsin state legislature to help businesses like Wonderstate Coffee.

They also discuss his pardoning of January 6 insurrectionists and what that means for justice in America in comparison to Joe Biden's last-minute pardons. As well as what these actions say in regard to gaslighting and normalizing certain behavior in and out of politics. Later they speak to David Cohn, current director of First Tee, a youth development organization that educates kids and teens on the game of golf. He shares how they teach kids how to play, the power of learning the sport, and how they still provide programs even in the dead of winter.

There is a lot of news today and on top of the Inauguration it is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
