  • Soul School - Lesson 19: When Spring is Underground
Even if you don't observe Lent, the themes the reflect seasons in the human experience and reveal meta-truths that can transform and enrich us.

Lent means Springtime! But, in February–in the Northern Hemisphere–Spring has not sprung. Life exist in darkness–underground. It will be weeks before new life is seen. The same is often true for us in our dark times. The spiritual practices of Lent and the increased awareness call us to a new depth of introspection as we invite rebirth into our lives. Listen in and see!

Each year, the season of Lent lasts for the 40 days + Sundays prior to Easter Sunday.

This lesson has so much bonus material and I'm excited to share it with you!

  • EPS 49: The Surprising "Death Class" Trend - Guest Erika Hayasaski
Many of us get anxious at the thought of growing old and dying or the thought of losing a loved one to accident, illness, and death. The reality of life and death is that we don’t much like the death part.

Hospitals, funeral homes, and many other services and agencies help us and make things easier when we lose someone we love; but they also shield us from the fact of our own mortality in ways unknown in other cultures and eras. Might we be too isolated to what becomes of us all? Can we do better at working through the process of grief? Are there better ways to consider our impending death and the departure of our loved ones?

Many are beginning to think so and the emergence and popularity of so-called “death cafes”, “death salons” and “death classes” speaks to the fact that people want to approach the topic of human mortality in new and more upfront ways.

Today, I joined by guest, author and professor (and former LA Times journalist) Erika Hayasaki as she talks about this fascinating and important trend that invites us to be more courageous about our human experience. Make sure to visit SparkMyMuse.com for very helpful show notes that have extra info, key links and a very good reading list if you are interested in the topic.

Spark My Muse comes out twice-weekly–Wednesdays and Fridays.
LIVE discussions are held 3 times per month. Follow on Twitter (@lisadelay) to get links for those or sign up for the newsletter at sparkmymuse.com

Please aid out the show by writing a helpful review on iTunes!

It's lovely of you to listen and make me a part of your day.

  • EPS 48: Free Will, Luck, and Psychopaths- Guest Diana Hsieh
If you're born with all the markers of a psychopathic brain, can you really be blamed if you commit a crime that others in your family tree have committed? (Hear about Neuroscientist James Fallon's story.)

How much choice do we have in life, really?
What are we truly morally responsible for?
Is the person who plans a crime but doesn't get to carry it out because of a mistake as guilty as a person whose same evil pan worked?
These and other interesting and difficult questions are the topic of discussion today with my guest, philosopher Diana Hsieh.

Visit SparkMyMuse.com for helpful links, show notes, and extras. Don't forget to tune in on Wednesdays and Fridays for new shows.

Thanks so very much for listening.
