You ever wondered how the US medical system got so royally f*ucked? I have. This episode is the first in a series on the history of the American Medical system from the pharmaceutical era  at the turn of the 20th century to now. We start here with Abraham Flexners report on the state of Medical Education in the us in published in 1910. This report changed American healthcare more than any other single event in history and the best part is Flexner had zero medical training.

Firstly I would like to apologize for my absence these last few weeks. My best friend in the world got cancer and was circling the drain.  I almost had to put her down twice. As important as meeting deadlines and consistency are to me my relationships are more important. I hope they are for you too. 

During the last month, thanks to help from my friends and family, I have had the opportunity to do an insane amount of research on the treatment and management of cancer. I learned, unlearned and relearned a lot. 

In this Episode I walk you through  my abridged experience of me trying my best to save my best friend using the tools I have available; namely Traditional Chinese Medicine. 

There's lots of new science covered, old assumptions addressed and I admit one big mistake I made and now have to live with concerning my dog and her cancer.

This episode is all about how to know in your body what wise decisions feel like. We know what anger sadness joy and fear feel like. Its easy to know when we are being foolish because we know the sensation of it. We are aware of and can name our emotional states because we are familiar with the sensations we are feeling in our body and have given those sensations names like fear, joy, anger and hope. What might life be life if we all knew and could name the sensation of wisdom?

Happy Valentines day! Nothing is sexier than knowing your limits and playing to your strengths.

In the last episode I discussed a key concept in my book called strengthnesses. I talked about who has them what they are where they come from and why they're both good and bad.

 In this episode I wanted to give you some specific example of how if you plan accordingly you can leverage your strengthnesses to help you live a profound life. One in which your strengths get to be strengths and your weaknesess get some buffering.

 I talk about 3 times in which the environmental prosthetics I created for my life lead me to the some of the most profound and meaningful moments of my life. Where I was helpful and helped simultaneously.

I am so excited about today's episode. It all about a core concept for the book. Strengthnesses are the defining attributes of traumatized individuals that are both strengths and weaknesses at once. The determining factor as to which side of the strengthness coin you will wind up displaying is the environment. 

Everyone has attributes. Highly traumatized people have that plus some and they are always related to the pieces of us that protected us the most. Learn about my strengthnesses, my journey too accept some and to change others of my strengthnesses in today's episode. 
I'm quite proud of how this one turned out.

The president of the American pediatric society said that ACEs are the single greatest unaddressed public health threat in the nation. A phone call from a friend reminded me of something extremely powerful and often overlooked that I think is worth talking about. I think its important to recognize on a podcast that has a lot of self help kind of information and tools for people to improve their lives that there is a side of things that will undoubtedly show its face. When that happens its not meant to be over come. 

We are all gonna have bad days. Even with all the tools in our tool kit, we cant fix it and on those days if we lean into it I believe those days can become holy turning points in our lives. As nice as it would be we aren't meant to solve all our problems. As hard as we try we are all stuck with COVID. We aren't getting the resolution we were once accustom to.  We are all meant to feel exhaustion sadness boredom and fear. Not that often. But at least often enough to maintain a little compassion for others.
