Spiegel & Holmes Show

In the second hour, Matt Spiegel and Chris Rongey discussed White Sox ace Lucas Giolito getting ejected from his team's win Thursday for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout on a night in which he wasn't pitching. And to the surprise of absolutely no one, manager Tony La Russa didn't have his back. It's getting old. Also, where are we at when it comes to "sticky stuff" on the baseball. Cool with it? Reds slugger Nick Castellanos is indifferent.

Matt Spiegel and Chris Rongey, who was sitting in for Danny Parkins, opened their show by discussing LeBron James and his Los Angeles Lakers getting eliminated from the NBA playoffs by the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night. And for the second game in a row, "The King" was basically a no-show. Also, it turns out that Spiegs has a unique kitchen utensil to cut basically every different kind of fruit and vegetable. Ever heard of a knife?

Also, White Sox outfielder Andrew Vaughn was placed in the COVID-19 protocol but isn't expected to miss an extended period of time. In the third hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel reacted to Spiegs making his first of many weekly appearances on the Bernstein & Rahimi Show earlier this morning. You know, so he can talk about baseball with radio hosts who actually appreciate baseball. Also, O.J. Simpson’s longtime defense attorney passed away. We took some time to remember him. Later, the guys discussed how the Cubs aren't making top executive Jed Hoyer’s job easy. Do you expect them to buy or sell come as the trade deadline approaches in late July?

In the second hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel reacted to the city of Chicago announcing it will officially fully reopen with no restrictions on June 11. That's perfect timing for the Cubs to return from a West Coast road trip to face the Cardinals at home in front of 100% capacity at Wrigley Field. Congratulations, Chicago -- you did it. Then, Detroit Tigers shortstop Zack Short -- who's also Cubs outfielder Ian Happ’s podcast partner -- joined the show to preview his squad’s series against the White Sox this weekend.

In the final hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel reacted to WGN-TV obtaining dashcam footage of White Sox manager Tony La Russa's arrest on suspicion of DUI back in 2020. In La Russa's words, "I'm legitimate. I'm with the Angels. I'm a Hall of Famer." Yikes. Also, executive producer Shane Riordan claimed he'd euthanize his dog if she defecates on his couch again. Is he as bad a guy as Parkins? And as always, we ended the show with your questions in the One Last Thing segment.

They were joined by one of the best to ever do it -- Fox Sports broadcaster Joe Buck, who has called 23 World Series. On this occasion, Buck critiqued Spiegel's third ever inning of MLB radio play-by-play work. Later, the guys reacted to portions of dashcam footage being released from White Sox manager Tony La Russa's arrest on suspicion of DUI back in 2020. We have the audio for you.

Danny Parkins, Matt Spiegel and the crew opened their show by asking this: Remember when the "King of the Mush" Parkins killed tall man Mark Eaton? The former Utah Jazz center died this past weekend in a bicycle crash. He was 64. And we talked about him on the show LAST FRIDAY.
