Spiegel & Holmes Show

In the third hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel discussed the latest White Sox controversy surrounding manager Tony La Russa, who was upset that rookie slugger Yermin Mercedes homered on a 3-0 pitch off a Twins position player in the ninth inning of a blowout win Monday. La Russa called that a "big mistake." La Russa is running his really talented baseball team into the ground, and we will no longer stand for it.

He's just 21 years old and is the first Black PA announcer in Cubs history.

Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel opened their show by welcoming on Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network to discuss his recent report that Bears coach Matt Nagy doesn’t have any plans to “pass the baton” to quarterback Justin Fields until the 2022 season. Rapoport believes the only scenario for Fields to see meaningful playing time in 2021 is if the Bears aren't winning much with veteran Andy Dalton under center.

In the final hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel discussed the boys -- Jon Lester and Kyle Schwarber of the Nationals -- being back in town facing their former Cubs teammates. Are you all up in your feelings? You should be. Then, the crew wondered if someone will get laid off after our show dinner Thursday. Also, there's a trend. Rookie receiver Dazz Newsome is an absolute delight, but Bears beat reporters didn't do a good job recommending Chicago restaurants for him. As always, we ended the show with listeners' questions in the One Last Thing segment.

In the third hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel reacted to the Bulls holding their end-of-season press conferences Monday. We learned that lead executive Arturas Karnisovas and Co. are incredibly high on 19-year-old forward Patrick Williams. Will the Bulls open the 2021-'22 campaign as a better team than they ended this season? Later, the guys discussed reading at night as opposed to watching TV, had some TikTok conversation and shared audio from the late Kobe Bryant's induction into the NBA Hall of Fame on Saturday.

In the second hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel reacted to Bears coach Matt Nagy's interview on our Mully & Haugh Show earlier in the morning in which he discussed the draft process, quarterback evaluations and whether his team is in a better position to win now than it was in 2020. Later, the guys reacted to a wild finish in the White Sox's 4-3 win against the Royals on Sunday, one that left Kansas City manager Mike Matheny really mad.

In the second hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel were joined by Marquee Sports Network play-by-play voice Jon "Boog" Sciambi to discuss the latest Cubs storylines. It's safe to say he’s not buying into their low production with runners in scoring position. Later, a Chicago legend in Barry Rozner joined the show to discuss his retirement from the Daily Herald, where he had been a writer and columnist for 37 years.
