This episode I got to interview Zarrar Kahn whose debut feature, In Flames, has been unleashed in North American theatres as of April 12th. Kahn's film is a doozy of patriarchal oppression, supernatural malevolence, and seething angst, all set in Karachi, Pakistan where two women struggle with the loss of the family patriarch. It's a super impressive debut and gave us plenty to talk about, like wrangling fire stunts, shooting a film during the pandemic, and Kahn's refreshing attitude on genre cinema. This episode's special guest is Rob Jabbaz, a Canadian filmmaker who created my favourite film of 2022 - The Sadness! If you haven't watched it yet, what are you waiting for?? It's one of the most brutal and exhilarating takes on a "viral horror flick" where people are succumbing to a mysterious infection that turns them into sadistic psychopaths. We talk about how his film was received in Taiwan where it was made, his new comic book Black Urn, artistic processes, listening to metal, and the usual mind-boggling questionnaire that really got Rob cookin'. Second episode of Season 2 and we've got the talented underground filmmaker, David Dawson. David's been carving out a unique style over the past few years, getting his friends together to shoot films that blend drama and horror together in an exciting way. His last film, "Flesh Games", took a Jackass-style mock-doc from goofy hijinx to nightmare cinema. A bit of genre-hopping sculpted to get the senses buzzing, if ya catch my drift. So naturally, David and I spent half the time talking about hardcore punk shows, haha. Don't worry there's plenty here about his films because they truly rule and he's an exciting director to keep tabs on. Either way, fun chat, fun guy, check it out!

The first episode of Season 2 is actually the last episode of Season 1! Yes, this particular recording was Frankenstein-ed together after numerous technical difficulties led to failed attempt after failed attempt - but we persevered because 1) THIS GUEST IS STEPHEN F**KIN' GRISCHUK, and 2) Stephen friggin' Grischuk! If you don't know him yet, you will know him soon, an indie horror filmmaker bursting with charm and zany FX. His films are barrels of fun, complete with gnarly gore and wily creatures, but you can always feel like as soon as the take ended, Grischuk and his crew burst into laughter because of how much fun they were having. I'm a big fan of his work and him as a person (he rules). So please, check this out and check out his films and thanks for hopping back. Season 2 is going to be blast!

This episode might be the funniest one yet as I welcome the three dudes that produce one of my favourite podcasts: Unwatchables. Seth Troyer, Marc Dottavio, and Tony Scarpitti take extreme/challenging/avant-garde/wtf cinema analysis to a whole new level and I brought them on to pick their brains on what it's been like to endure films like Salo: 120 Days of Sodom and Space Jam: A New Legacy. We had a blast chatting about gritty, goofy, and gruesome cinema. Obviously some harsh subject matter is touched on (so heads up!) but I think the laughs offset the bad vibes of the dark content.
