A key aspect of the Calypso programme is to introduce the game of cricket to children with little or no access to the game, and also talent identification being a big part - with players such as Temba Bavuma being one of those identified through the Calypso Cricket festival. Many young and talented cricketers have participated in the programme over the years and Calypso Cricket work closely with Cricket South Africa to identify young talent and nurture them through various mentorship and bursary programmes.

The Lions U19 Cricket team are well underway with preparations heading into the U19 Girls Provincial Tournament after a series of warm-up matches against provincial sides, Easterns U19 and Northerns U19.

 

The warm-up matches continue with the Lions U19 taking on the Northerns U19 on 27 November, and Malikah Hamza says this team will be their toughest competition when the provincial tournament commence from 16-20 December 2021.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) have been dealt a major blow in their efforts to salvage their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, with FIFA on Friday dismissing their protests.

She currently needs a sum of R41 500 to cover all costs and has to date raised R5300.

The SA Football Association (Safa) left nothing to chance in their protest against Senegalese referee Maguette Ndiaye and managed to submit additional supporting documents to their original complaint to Fifa before the November 20 deadline, set by the world governing body.

Fifa asked Safa to provide documentation to support their suspicion that Ndiaye showed deliberate bias and may have manipulated the outcome of Bafana's 0-1 defeat to Ghana in a controversial 2022 World Cup qualifiers played in Cape Coast on November 14. The Ghanaians were also given the option to provide their own documentation in support of or against the South Africans.

Insiders told TimesLIVE that after submitting documents that included a report compiled by former Fifa referee Andile 'Ace' Ncobo, Safa conducted further research into the contentious dispute and sent new findings to Fifa and Caf before last Saturday's deadline

King Price Xtreme racing legend Schalk Burger has unveiled the new car in which he will take on the 2022 Dakar Rally as a 50-year-old rookie: the mighty locally-built Century Racing CR6, which won three stages on last year’s Dakar.

 

The CR6 is a custom-built offroader which features by a massive 7.0 litre V8 Chevrolet engine, which develops 650Nm of torque, monstrous 37” tyres and a host of specialised technology to get him over some of the most challenging terrain known to offroad racers.

 

“The CR6 provides me with the best chance I’ll ever have to have a competitive car in Dakar,” says Burger, who spent three days putting the car through its paces in the Namibian desert earlier this month.

Judoka Donne Breytenbach claimed top honours at the fifth edition of the African Open in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The pinnacle of African Judo saw ten countries participating, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guinea, Ireland, South Africa, Senegal, and hosts Cameroon bringing the continental showcase to completion. In the end, South Africa finished fifth on the medal table with two of the nation’s three medals coming from the ladies’ divisions.

Top honours go to the 19-year-old South African, Breytenbach, who won gold in the women’s -57 kg weight category, beating Oumy Kamara of Senegal in the final.
