Guest on the line: South African Judoka -Donne Breytenbach
Judoka Donne Breytenbach claimed top honours at the fifth edition of the African Open in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The pinnacle of African Judo saw ten countries participating, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guinea, Ireland, South Africa, Senegal, and hosts Cameroon bringing the continental showcase to completion. In the end, South Africa finished fifth on the medal table with two of the nation’s three medals coming from the ladies’ divisions.
Top honours go to the 19-year-old South African, Breytenbach, who won gold in the women’s -57 kg weight category, beating Oumy Kamara of Senegal in the final.
