South Africa's men’s and women’s teams have reigned supreme at the African Cup of Nations hockey tournaments in Accra, Ghana, where the finals were played on Sunday evening.

 

South Africa's women saw hosts Ghana off in the final with a 3-1 triumph and have qualified for the World Cup which will be jointly hosted by Spain and The Netherlands in July. The women's team have been unbeaten at the Nations Cup since 1994.

Guest on the line- along distance Marathon Athlete - been running 47 consecutive Comrades Marathon's - and - 44 Two Ocean's Ultra Marathon's (Louis Massyn).

Comrades Marathon runner Louis Massyn holds Permanent Number 403 and was inducted onto the Green Number Roll of Honour nearly 4 decades ago, after successfully completing 10 consecutive Comrades Marathons.

He has since completed 47 consecutive races, who together with Barry Holland, hold the highest number of Comrades Marathon finishes in the history of the great race, placing them in a league all of their own, and with only a total of 17 runners having been enlisted onto the Comrades Quadruple Green Number Roll of Honour.

Now 70 years of age, Louis ran his first Comrades in 1973 at the age of 22. Ever since, he has fostered a special relationship with the Comrades which has become an integral part of his life.

With Covid-19, the subsequent lockdown and resultant cancellation of races, Louis was one of the first athletes to enter last year’s inaugural virtual event, Race The Comrades Legends.

My name is Abigail Kotze and I am 11 years old and in grade 6. I live in beautiful Noordhoek, Cape Town and am part of Vineyard Swimming Club. I started swimming at age 7 and been competing since I was 8 years old. My coach is Rhys Hugo and I just love his dedication and passion for swimming. My racing motto is “Race in Faith”. I know that I’m blessed to be able to do what I love and I will always give glory to God for belssing me with a swimming talent.

The Eye of the Tiger is a National Rugby Academy (EOTT), a woman-led, skills-based learning institute that recruits talent with passion in rugby from previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa with the main purpose to develop the youngsters form the lowest level to the highest level of play.  The academy was founded 2011 and started its operations in 2012.

It is a Non-Profit organization (NPO).  It recruits boys from the age of U/14 to U/19 from schools. It supports its beneficiaries with bursaries to colleges and universities to further their studies and play rugby at a University level.  Our recruitment is without isolating any racial groupings in order to enhance social cohesion.

Matrics In Antarctica is an initiative created to help inspire young South African's, matric students specifically, to think about sustainability and how they can make a difference to the environment in their communities.

This initiative is supported by the Department of Basic Education, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, and several sponsors who understand the need to educate young South Africans on conservation. This epic adventure is set to entice students to think about how our daily actions affect the environment and what changes we can make locally to challenge the effects of global warming and climate change.

Navigating treacherous sand dunes in the Saudi Arabian desert for 13 days while racing against some of the world’s best riders is no easy feat. But for 23-year-old Brad Cox, competing in the Dakar Rally has always been in his blood. Brad – the son of 13-time Dakar participant and ex-KTM factory rider Alfie Cox – completed his first-ever Dakar Rally on Friday, 14 January, where he finished in a respectable 25th position overall and fifth in the GP-2 category. This has pushed him to third in the World Rally Championship rankings.
