Guest on the line: Kirsty Weir –South African Athlete

We all love a good news story, right? Well, the story of Kirsty Weir is certainly an amazing and uplifting one.

Kirsty made waves from the early 2000’s when she started participating in races in East London, became faster and faster and was ultimately offered a scholarship to go and run cross country at the Western State College in Gunnison Colorado. Kirsty excelled in Colorado and became an all American – an honour which is awarded to the top 20 girls in the nation!

But all was not sound, you see this brilliant young athlete was embroiled in a huge internal battle. The battle of anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is a psychological eating disorder causing people to obsess about their weight and what they eat. It is characterised by a distorted body image, with an unwarranted fear of being overweight and symptoms include trying to maintain a below-normal weight through starvation or too much exercise.

Guest on the line: Two Oceans Marathon Race Director -Debra Barnes 

AFTER a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, runners will again lace-up to take part in the Two Oceans Marathon which returns with a new name and sponsorship deal.

The event will now be known as the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon after the sports apparel retailer entered into a three-year title sponsorship agreement.

The two-day event will take place on April 16 and 17.

The Proteas Women's team are in high spirits now that they can finally begin their preparations in earnest for the 2022 World Cup after serving their time in Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) in New Zealand.

The MIQ restrictions in New Zealand are among the most stringent in the world and it certainly takes a toll on the players physical and mental well being.

"We have been in stuck in a room for quite a while," Proteas batter Lara Goodall said. "It feels amazing actually (to be outside of a hotel room). If you include the traveling then it's more than a week.

"It was good to get out and have a bit of a refresher. I literally just wanted to take a walk. To walk wherever I wanted and to stretch my legs."

 

Guest on the line: Richard Murray is a South African triathlete. Murray won the Junior ITU Duathlon World Championships in 2007 and 2008.

South Africa’s Richard Murray, married to Dutch pro triathlete Rachel Klamer, will join the Dutch national triathlon squad as of now and therefor no longer race for South Africa. In a press release, the Dutch federation stated the transfer will be made official by World Triathlon as of March 2022.

“I have lived in the Netherlands during the summer period. I love the country and the way sport is organized. I like working with the NTB (the Dutch national triathlon federation, ed.) and I look forward to representing the Netherlands in World Triathlon races once I have fully recovered from my heart surgery“, Murray stated.

Last time Richard Kohler did something this crazy he got attacked by a shark, almost broke his back and smashed his boat in half, but he got there in the end. He became the first person to solo kayak along the entire length of the South African coastline
