This podcast Dave and Rick discuss all things prepping for another DIY elk trip. Dave has been on a few trips and killed a rag horn bull last season. Rick has never been west and has a ton of questions.
Preparation is important in these trips. Gear becomes important and buying good gear at a good price is key. Foot care can't be overlooked and this goes beyond the boot purchase. Backpack hunting brings its challenges and Dave discusses why this might not be the best tactic right off the start.
Topics Discussed:
- Ohio deer and turkey expo
- gear talk
- training for hills
- expectations
- packs and camping
- Diy whitetail hunters doing better at going west.

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Ron Brown, an Alberta archer that loves hunting the Canadian Rocky Mountains and front range.
Ron has quite the resume when it comes to hunting animals in Canada. He has successfully hunted black bears, whitetails, mule deer, a B&C pronghorn and elk with his bow as well as feral hogs and moose. Ron also loves to small game hunt but bow hunting is his sweet spot. Ron is a staff shooter for a couple of archery related companies and loves competing in 3D shoots. Dan and Ron discuss the variety of hunting opportunities in Canada as well as some very unique treestand encounters.

Today on The Average Conservationist Podcast, Marcus is riding solo to talk about springtime and some of the ways you can get outside and do some good. When the snow is finally gone, you can start to see more green than white and brown, the days are getting longer and you're seeing more of the sun than you've seen in months. Now is the time to use all of that pent up angst from sitting inside during the winter and get out and do some good. Hit some local trailheads, water access points or even parks and pick up some trash that was left throughout the winter months. Take the family and make a day of it, now is a great time to have conversations with the young conservationists in our lives about leaving things better than you found them.

This week the guys give ya a quick recap of Paul’s southern turkey adventures and Andrew’s preparation for a southern trip for hunting hogs. Paul got to spend a few days down in Florida chasing Osceolas. Andrew’s heding to Oklahoma to learn from the Oklahoma Outdoorsman, John Hudspeth, about how to take down hogs. More to come on that trip.
This week’s talk, is with Sawyer from Xvision Optics. Xvision optics is the newest partner to the O2 Family, and they specialize in thermal optics. If you’re not familiar with thermals, Sawyer does a great job of explaining the science behind the devices. Consider it thermals 101 if you will. This is a fun talk, and a good educational experience in the latest technology.
Have a great week and enjoy the O2 if you get out into Ohio’s great Outdoors!

Hey everyone, welcome to episode 166 of the Antler Up Podcast!
On this week's episode I was joined by Rick Brule from Vapor Trail! When Ricky was previously on the podcast he spoke about his upcoming Boundary Waters bear hunt. For this episode we recap this specific hunt and the challenges it presented.
When it came to preparing for this hunt Ricky was all prepared and did his research. However, since he was completing this hunt solo the weather played a factor in keeping him at camp for four days. Being stuck at camp tested Ricky mentally and physically! We discussed what he did during these 4 days and how he was able to still overcome challenges throughout his time there. Ricky shared what these challenges were and what he did to overcome them. To wrap up the story on this hunt Ricky discussed what he plans to do if he is able to draw this bear tag again in the future and what others can learn from his trip this past season.
To finish off this conversation Ricky spoke about his whitetail season and how his first year in the saddle went! We talked about goals and improvements we are looking to make for this upcoming year including mobile hunting, future plans for Vapor Trail rests and a podcast! This was a great chat with Ricky and I hope you enjoy this fun episode!
Thanks again for all the support and best of luck out there and Antler Up!

Usually these conversations are saved for the Hunting Gear Podcast, but we felt like there was enough crossover to launch the episode on both podcasts. On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan talks with Austin Kantola of Genesis 3D Printing about mobile hunting and product design. Austin is an engineer by trade but loves to tinker with his hunting equipment, this led to him starting up a 3D printing company where he designs and manufactures accessories for the mobile hunter. Austin share his mobile hunting experiences and how they directly affect the products he designs. Fun episode you will be sure to enjoy if you are a serious mobile hunter.
