This week on the Pennsylvania Woodsman we chat with Garrett Regalski who is the owner of Fowl Intentions and co-owner of PA Boyz Outdoors. Garrett eats, sleeps and breathes goose hunting and adjusts life around chasing the flyways. For six months out of the year he is putting his shotgun through constant use and abuse in any weather you'd imagine. Needless to say, opening day cannot come fast enough!.
Garrett shares a ton of his experiences and details how his scouting leads to success. A ton of miles get put on the vehicles to locate and pattern birds during preseason. He also discusses calling techniques, decoying, equipment, and much much more. It's an episode that will aggravate an itchy trigger finger and make your shoulder hurt just thinking about slinging some steel!

Josh Illderton from the Untamed joins the SGH podcast this week to talk about his strategy for hunting and killing mature bucks from the ground. Josh mixes a little bit of western strategy into his style of hunting, that he believes directly gives him more opportunity than your typical tree saddle or stand hunter. It'd be hard to argue his resume as well! If you're looking for an out of the box approach, this might be a great episode for you.

On today's podcast episode I have Shane Simpson on as a guest. While Shane has hunted a ton of different public hunting properties over the years, in the past two years he's begun a focus to try and learn a new, large piece with the intent to build a library of information and continue to focus on it for years to come. It's somewhat similar to what I've done on a couple properties. So the episode focuses mainly on the multiyear strategy to learn as much as you can each year while also having realistic expectations about what can be achieved each step of the way. We cover summer scouting, spring scouting, trail cameras, talking with other local hunters, focusing on rut vs bed hunting, the fall shift, and more.
We also touch on some of the tracking data collected from over 150 deer recoveries with Shane's dog Callie. Shane and a friend of his had distilled the information down to determine what factors for broadhead and shot style led to the highest chance of recovery along with what some of the key findings were for order of operations with grid searching.

On this episode of The Nomadic Outdoorsman Dan talks with Skyler Watkins about his plan to secure hunting and fishing property for the future generations.
Skyler started guiding hunts at 14 and has worked in the field ever since. After years in the industry traveling the country hunting and fishing as well as guiding many clients to successful outdoor adventures, Skyler started The Wild U which is an unbiased and non judgmental space for outdoorsmen and women to grow in their knowledge and experience of outdoor activities. He has since started a non profit called 4Progeny, an organization designed to take a stand against anti hunting legislation and governmental agendas by purchasing private land through crowd sourced funding to be held in a non profit organization for use by the public hunting community. Dan and Skyler talk all about how we can each take a small step towards preserving land that will collectively make a huge difference.

We’re now coming to the end of August. Food plots are planted, stands are hung, and the cameras are in the field doing their work. Are you forgetting anything? One often overlooked part of deer hunting is access. Many hunters pay little to no attention to how they access their properties or their stands, figuring the quickest way from point A to point B is a straight-line. But bullet proof access, or at least really good access, is one of the most critical things when it comes to upping your odds of taking a mature buck.
In this episode of the How to Hunt Deer podcast, Josh talks with Dan Johnson about accessing difficult properties and stand locations. Dan hunts on permission properties in Iowa that are often difficult to access without alerting deer. Add to this that these properties often receive pressure from other hunters taking the easy way in and out, and you quickly realize just how intentional Dan needs to be with his access. Dan covers creative access means like bikes and boats, using terrain to your advantage, and how he plans to stay undetected on a new piece of ground he just gained permission on this year.

On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan talks with Jason Thibodeau about the positives and negatives of an out of state hunt they went on together. Dan and Jason connected through social media and found out that they had planned on hunting the same areas in the same state. This led the guys to planning this trip together because of where they lived and other matching logistics. But, the trip wasn't all butterflies and rainbows. The guys discuss all of the issues they had with the lack of communication between them as well as other hurdles they faced on this trip. If you are thinking about going on an of state hunt with a stranger, this is an episode for you.

The guys were able to take some time to “hang out” with Adrian Wilson from Tethrd. Adrian works within the marketing and sales side of things over at Tethrd. He’s a long time hunter, and genuine good dude. He covers his love of white tails, the basics of saddle hunting, and what to expect in the future.
The boys were on the road this week, up in Waterford Wisconsin to check out a conservation fundraiser held by the folks over at Half Rack. Half rack is a hunting accessory company founded in Wisconsin and based on the 2% for Conservation mentality. The event was a huge success with over $15,000 raised for conservations. Thousands of dollars of raffle prizes, good beer, and a heck of a time hanging out with friends from across the industry. Lots of news around the state, but don’t forget that this weekend August 27 from 10-4 at Vance’s in Hebron is the Tethrd Teach and Train event. If you ever wanted to get the ins and outs of saddle hunting you will have some of the best in the world on hand to give you the run down.
