This episode of the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast is a very special one. John takes a little road trip and records this episode with his great uncle Harvey. Harvey was born in 1939 and lived most of his life within a stones throw of the Red River in both Oklahoma and Texas. Harvey has done a little bit of everything through out his life. He began farming cotton at a shockingly young age, he was hauling cotton gin equipment on a truck to west Texas before he was old enough to have a drivers license, and even helped out with a gold mining venture for a short time. While all of that was going on he also got his pilots license, drove a mail truck, and came surprisingly close to catching a state record fish.
Harvey talks about what he hunted before their were any deer in the area, and how he vividly remembers seeing his first whitetail doe. Oddly enough his first ever deer was a mule deer he shot in Canada, and that's a memory he will never forget for more than one reason. He tells all kinds of stories from hunting and fishing, and even a great story about pulling a jet through downtown Ada. You will want to listen to this episode over and over again, and will be laughing all the way through.

In this Point Blank Episode the Houndsman XP Team recounts recent travels. Chris makes a loop through the South East, Lauren travels to West Virginia and Seth returns from an epic bear hunting trip.
Seth will give the total breakdown of his trip to BC, courtesy of our partners at Freedom Hunters. Six U.S. military veterans and Seth traveled to the Babine region and hunted with Babine Guide Outfitters in a vast wilderness area that is chock full of bears. The group treed several bears and had encounters, in total, with sixty three bears +/- in five days. The HXP team talks hound work and discusses a newcomer to the Houndsman XP podcast; the Karelian Bear Dog. Seth breaks down the whole hunt and goes into detail of how professional outfitter Lloyd Hooper utilizes his Karelian Bear Dog, Gomer, to put the heat on a running bear.

In this Episode of Huntavore, Summer has finally arrived! Schools out, temps are up, and outdoor cooking is back. Nick is joined by Larry White, the Wildgame Gourmet to chat about wildgame and live fire. Larry gives some insight to meat care, making a smoke bomb to regulate your smoke output, and what his goto hardwood of choice is. Nick does some investigating on Larry’s DIY clay oven, gets skeptical over flavored charcoal briquette, and gets excited over Larry’s dish, Chili Colorado. Kick back and enjoy this latest episode of Huntavore.
Larry White hails from North Carolina, and enjoys playing with his wildgame and applying his culinary craft. Larry ran a restaurant and food truck and like anyone in hospitality realized that when was starting a family, he had to make a choice. Now he creates amazing dishes where gamey isn't even a thought. Nick brought Larry on to chat about live fire cooking, and his construction of a DIY outdoor clay oven. Summer is here and cooking outdoors over open flame is a great way to kick it off. Larry loves oak on his barbecue, especially over wild pork that he takes off his home swamp. A true property problem to plate solution.
In the two dish breakdown Larry lays out a dessert on the grill, grilled peaches. Sprinkle some brown sugar and drop onto some direct heat. The peach will char and take on some smoke. Serve with rosemary infused cream or french vanilla. His second dish is a chili Colorado. Not to be mistaken as a normal chili, but a hearty stew braised in a red chili sauce.

Black bears are one of the most intriguing animals in North America due to their high level of intellect. Across the nation the most popular way of bear hunting is by baiting or with hounds. There are a number of states that do not allow these forms of bear hunting, resulting in the ultimate chess match between man and beast. In Western states, however; the landscape and topography allow for spot and stalk situations as well as long range shooting. Arguably the most difficult place in the country to harvest a black bear is Pennsylvania and the surrounding Northeastern states which do not allow baiting or hounds.
On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, Robby and Mitchell chat with Pennsylvania Black Bear biologist Emily Carrollo. As Pennsylvania's bear seasons continue to modify based on data and research, Emily shares some of the data management associated with making hunting season decisions. In addition to addressing public concern, we dive into food and cover habits typically associated in fall and how the age and sex of a bear may influence its home range. This episode is not only informative about the species but has plenty of hunting strategy ques to pull from.
