Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSNatasha Burrell is a mother of three, who lives on a live style block on the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand’s South Island. If you have ever been there, you’ll fully understand when I say it’s a breathtaking place as is the whole of New Zealand. Before devoting her life to her children, she was a veterinarian, animals and the care of animals have always been a passion of hers, and while she’s not practising now, she still has a menagerie of livestock around her that keeps her busy. When you read her children’s book, you’ll see it does have a certain vet’s angle to it. So, let’s turn to the book.

The Book
Follow a veterinary tale about a cat who ran across the road in front of a paramedic
The book revolves around compassion and kindness to animals and is aimed at 5–6-year-olds. It’s a sweet, charming story about a cat that got knocked down by a paramedic on her way to a call out. The story is based on a true event that took place close to Dunedin. The narrative tale of St John the cat tells the journey from his accident to his recovery process to becoming lifelong friends with the paramedic. The illustrations are relevant, engaging and easy for a young child to understand the story. A nice book for a bedtime read to be enjoyed by a young child on their own depending on their reading ability or a shared moment with a parent or grandparent. Children who love animals and might want to work in pet rescue situations or who are thinking of becoming veterinarians will find this book very interesting.
I enjoyed it, there again I’m just a big kid at heart like most so-called grownups!
