  • Episode 25: Leeann and Matthew Dearing

Actors and instructors Leeann and Matthew Dearing have spent years learning and adapting to the demands of the Phoenix arts scene. I've handily boiled down their life's work so far into about 50 minutes.

We had a coffee in their beautiful home, where they shared their thoughts on why improv is such a great acting tool, why it's important to take risks in an audition, and why, if the passion is there, you can teach great acting in a doctor's office lobby.

You can find more information on traditional classes and the new e-classes, Chaos Comedy improv, and Lighthouse Productions at dearingstudio.com

You can also follow Leeann's sketch comedy series "Leeann and Michelle Think They're Funny" on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.

  • Episode 24: Amber Skies

Costumer Amber Skies has the earnest positivity of a Disney Princess and the zany exhuberance of that Disney Princess's animal friend.

We sat down at the wrong Starbucks and then later the right Starbucks, and she told me about expressing yourself through existing characters, the issues that social media brings to the community, and why Snow White's eyes HAVE to be brown.

Amber Skies can be found on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Patreon, Youtube, DeviantArt, StoreEnvy, and Etsy, where you can see her work and purchase prints and custom commisions.

Brian and Shelby Maticic decided to open a theater where artists could explore acting, directing, writing, designing, and apparently conceiving a child.

  • Episode 21: Jacob Sacks

Filmmaker Jacob Sacks thinks the director should be the least technically-minded person on set. If that's the case, I must be the director on every set in 60 miles.

We met for a beer at Cartel Coffee in Scottsdale for an illuminating chat about importance of music in his creative process, the relationship with cast and crew, and how you can get people to pay you just about anything.

Jacob is currently in post-production on his short film Static, which he will be submitting to festivals (including Sundance!) in the next month. Keep an eye out in support of that and his related production company, Where's Toes Productions.
