Speaking in a TEDx event is a goal that a lot of business owners carry on their professional bucket lists, but most of us don't know how to get started. Lucky for you, our guest Cathlyn Melvin is a TEDx Speaker and Coach.
Tune in as she goes in-depth to answer all the questions that you may have wondered about being a TEDx speaker and shares actionable tips to help you get started on your TEDx journey. From preparing your application to perfecting the facial expressions and hand gestures for your TEDx talk, this episode’s gotchu!
It’s never too early to give your TEDx talk.
You can expect to spend about a minimum of 6 months in the process where you go from deciding you’re ready to give your TEDx talk to actually being on stage.
Each TEDx event has a different application process. Some will evaluate your profile solely based on your initial application, whereas others might require you to give an interview or even present a part of your talk.
There are certain parts of your TEDx journey that you simply can’t rush, such as editing and memorization.
While you can only give your TEDx talk once at the event, it’s a good idea to privately practice your talk in front of others to refine your stage presence and even gather feedback.
The average duration of a TEDx talk is about 12 minutes. This time allows you to lead your audience up to the point where they are able to align with the stance you’re presenting.
You can share a powerful message without having to hone in on the most traumatic experiences of your life.
