L'FREAQ is coming onto the scene with some new work. Imagine SWANS meets

Massive Attack with the Art Direction of Nick Cave and Gavin Friday,

just to make it freakier.

Bullied as a teenager she has moved on to own it, and fly her Freaq Flag

high, celebrating the serious Freaq she has going on under the

surface, and she has no problem telling you that.

Following up on her recent EP "Weird Awakenings" (the explanation in the

interview), she has released a new song "Make Me Move", very

intense and takes you to places you might not want to go, but that's

all her music actually. After listening to her music, you will find

her soft gentle personality to be completely unlike the ideas you get

from her music.

A real GEM, hold on for a wild ride. Just don't go listen to her

version of "Into My Arms" By Nick Cave without preparing to cry

your eyes out.

The "Marlon Brando of Punk" was the title Josie Cotton gave to Jack

Grisham of T.S.O.L. the West Coast punk band that emerged in the

early 80s. T.S.O.L. are a staple in the punk genre, and they dabbled

in a bit of "horror film" records that were absolutely fantastic.

Covering themes of Anarchism, bullying, and some topics you just need to

listen to the music for. T.S.O.L. have a large catalog that has

evolved over the years but remained true to the genre.

Talking about his new book on the way "The Pulse of The World", Jack is

an author, inpromptu social commentator, and always has something

funny, intelligent, and often rude to say. No filter, you always know

what he is thinking.

Salt Lake City's Folk and Punk scens are very lively, and somewhere this bunch of screwball multi instrumentalist gurus decided to come together and make a fantastic sound. Leaving conventional wisdom, logic, and any ability to shave behind, Folk Hogan was born. 

They have been making music and living the Salt Lake Art scene long enough to have seen and done it all, and still manage to be sober enough to take the stage on time. 

 Having lost their minds during covid lockdown, nothing is sacred to these guys, and you are lucky you did not get to see the video on this interview. They are funny, and the music is unspeakably complex, and fun to listen to.

In the 80s Jay Aston launched into the flamboyant eccelctic glam band "Gene Loves Jezebel" with his twin bother Michael Aston. 

They broke into the music world with so many unconventional stories that his whole careear does not really fit any paradigm of an artist. 

I have seen him many times over the last 30+ years as Gene Loves Jezebel was actually the first artist I ever saw perform live. Still going strong with his performances *(When he could), one of the more interesting carachters in music.

Para Lia, Imagine New Model Army meets Fury In The Slaughterhouse, and Peter Hook's first solo venture from New Order called "Revenge" yeah, that is how this band sounds. 

Originally from Falkenberg Germany, Para Lia is an indie rock duo, now based in Cottbus near Berlin. Influenced by the rhythms and tones of '90s alt-rock and the synth density of '80s darkwave, their own sound blends melodic guitars, along with distinctive lead guitar and resonant synths.

Comprised of René Methner (all instruments and vocals) and Cindy Methner (backing vocals), their band name was born of their love for Greece, with para lia, (παραλία) meaning "coast" or "beach" in Greek - a name full of mystery but optimism, which both has history and evokes a balance of the masculine and feminine.

Deep literary references, and great music, these two are not to be overlooked.

She is a one woman army that blends the chaos and balance with a familiar vibe of industrial electronica sound. Her music is a fusion of smooth, cutting edge vocals, surreal guitars, hypnotizing beats and multiple electronic synth elements arising into dark arrangements that, combined with storytelling lyrics, respond to the paranoia of everyday reality.

I Ya Toyah spent the majority of 2020 in

her studio working on new music, as well as taking part in multiple

collaborations including vocal performances with the project Featured by

Julian Beeston ( Iron Man, Batman Begins movie sound design, Nitzer

Ebb, Cubanate), Tear Down The Walls Tribute to Pink Floyd by Riveting

Music, and many more. In March 2020 she released the remix project for

the Code Blue album, including the collaboration with Rhys Fulber of

Front Line Assembly and Conjure One, Tim Skold, Grendel and more. The

Groundbreaking Canadian female vocalist Whajne's debut album is an invigorating and bittersweet offering, demonstrating resilience and survival in the face of pain and heartbreak, blending elements of such artists as Alvvays, Snail Mail, Rilo Kiley and Real Estate. Here we find straight driving guitars and semi-gritty punk rock drums, topped off with vocals radiating a sunny surfer pop vibe... a little sultry with some attitude.

Whajne

(pronounced Wayne) - a member of the Whitefish River First Nation (Manitoulin District of Ontario) - has spent most of her life searching: for her purpose, for her family, for herself. Taken from her parents as a toddler during the infamous Sixties Scoop, in which the Canadian government forcibly rehoused tens of thousands of native children, Whajne grew up without knowing her real name, to say nothing of her heritage. Her life has been shaped by a hunger for truth and understanding, a yearning that lies at the core of her artistry.

Bob Gruen is the greatest Rock & Roll photographer of all time. If you have seen the photos of John Lennon standing in front of the statue of liberty, or in his "New York" sleevless shirt, or, the iconic Led Zeppelin in front of the airplane, or Sid Vicious of The Sex Pistols holding the hot dog, you have seen his work. 

Bob Gruen was friends with everyone in music, just because of the opportunities he made happen, suddenly landing him backstage or in front of the band shooting some of the greatest shots in music history. 

Bob felt it was important to document the events, though at the time he really was unaware how important his photos would be as time moved on from those moments, making them "history". 

You will probably see some you recognize of: 

Queen, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, The Runaways, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Ike and Tina Turner, Elton John, The Who, Bo Diddley, Blondie, The Ramones, Iggy Pop ... you get the idea.

The band that wrote the song, and inspired "Sticky Jazz". Barry Andrews of Shriekback, one of my favourite musicians of all time. 

Shriekback are a band that will sing about invisible rays, princesses being sold into slavery, and Jihad, in one song. They have been featured in movies by Michael Mann, in the "Pre Silence of the lambs" movie "Manhunter", and apparently even wall insulation in New Zeland. 

Barry is one of the most creative people in music, he has given us music to make you dig deep to figure out what it's about. We talk about Shriekback history, bands they have worked with, and the new music on the way. 

Barry explains his music, and art with all the wit and humour of the writing process, the stories, and meaning of his work, and provides an oral history of what went into the lyrics.

The Neverlutionaries' self-titled debut LP album is an unfiltered

expression of the heart that seamlessly straddles moods and genres. The

brainchild of multi-instrumentalist songwriter Christopher Harold Wells

and bound by his distinctively soulful timbre, the eponymous

eleven-song release featuring one bonus track tints hook-laden

alternative rock with psychedelia, shoegaze-y jazz, and subtle funk.

Not one to chase trends, his music has always been hard to pigeonhole. 

There is a sound for everyone in this one, I would put his talent, and versatility in the camp of PRINCE. 

The self title album releases on Feb 12 2021. It is fantastic (I love my job).
