Stonewall Jackson
In this episode of The Figures of the American Civil War Podcast, I am joined by self-confessed Stonewall Jackson fan Chris Mackowski to discuss the life of Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson.
Born on January 21, 1824, in Clarksburg, Virginia, Jackson graduated from West Point in 1846 and began his career in the artillery. He fought in the Mexican-American War, but in 1852, he resigned his military commission to accept a teaching position at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, where he served as a Professor of Natural and Experimental Philosophy.
Throughout his life, Jackson faced several tragedies, but his devotion to his faith helped him persevere. When the Civil War began, he accepted a position in the Confederate Army. During the Battle of First Bull Run, he earned one of the most famous nicknames in American Civil War history: "Stonewall." Jackson
