Epilogue: The Road to Kingsbridge

Holmes and Watson’s journey to Kingsbridge was born of necessity, not hope. London had become a graveyard of ash and silence, its streets overrun by the undead. Survival meant leaving the city behind.

They travelled northward, through abandoned villages and barren countryside, guided by rumours of a walled town where life still clung on. Watson had heard of Kingsbridge—a place of high walls and order—and urged Holmes to consider it. Reluctantly, Holmes agreed, intrigued by the town’s unlikely survival amidst such chaos.

The final stretch brought them to the forested outskirts of Kingsbridge. Beyond the trees, the town rose like a fortress, its gates guarded by wary men. After a tense exchange, the gates creaked open, revealing a settlement that was both humble and unsettlingly quiet.

Holmes’ sharp eyes noted every detail: the patched walls, the rationed goods, the nervous glances exchanged by the townsfolk. Watson saw hope; Holmes saw a puzzle.

They were given a modest cottage near the square, their first true shelter in weeks. Watson called it a reprieve. Holmes, ever restless, suspected otherwise.

Kingsbridge had secrets. And where there were secrets, there was a case to be solved!
