Your favourite remastered episodes are back with a four-course feast of crime—served up piping hot and dripping with intrigue. This week's Stories Fables Ghostly Tales is a vintage crime extravaganza featuring four classic radio dramas from the legendary Crime Club series—each one wrapped in deceit, sprinkled with red herrings, and sealed with a suspiciously shifty side-eye.
ABOUT CRIME CLUB:
🕵️‍♂️ Crime Club (1946–1947) was a short-lived but much-loved mystery anthology radio series produced by Mutual Broadcasting System. It ran from December 1946 to October 1947, and each episode was based on a published crime or mystery novel from Doubleday’s “Crime Club” imprint—a real book club that specialized in detective fiction from the 1920s through the 1950s.
🔎 What Made It Special?
The iconic host known as "The Librarian" was portrayed by two different actors during the series' run: Barry Thomson and Raymond Edward Johnson. Johnson was particularly renowned for his role as the host of Inner Sanctum Mysteries, bringing a familiar eerie presence to Crime Club as well.
Before Crime Club graced the radio waves, Universal Pictures had already adapted several of Doubleday's Crime Club novels into films between 1937 and 1939. This cinematic venture included 11 films, such as The Westland Case and The Lady in the Morgue, showcasing the brand's popularity prior to its radio incarnation.
While many episodes were adaptations of existing novels, approximately half of the Crime Club radio episodes were original scripts crafted specifically for the show. Talented writers like Stedman Coles and Wyllis Cooper (known for Lights Out and Quiet, Please) contributed to these unique stories, enriching the series' diversity.

BEFORE WE START an SFGT UPDATE: I'll be in Singapore from the 6/04/2025 to the 20/05/2025, so if you don't hear anything directly from me via email that'll be why. Once I'm back I'll pick up where I finished.
I have something very different for you this time...
For those of you who’ve followed Stories Fables Ghostly Tales through haunted houses, vengeful spirits, cursed artefacts, and lonely forests where time slips sideways—you know the flavour of my usual brew.
But now…
We turn the page to something vastly different...
Ancient. Cosmic.
This is the story of Odam vs Ave: Origins—a sweeping, mythic science-fantasy horror (yes still horror) built on forgotten lore, biomechanical gods, and the quiet breath of war sleeping beneath our feet.....and organic battle suits!!
🌌 The Premise
Eons ago, two seeds were cast across the universe—Odam, reshapers of worlds, and Ave, guardians of growth and survival. They were never meant to land on the same planet…
But on Earth, they did.
And that mistake?
It started a war no one remembers...well......not "no-one" exactly....
I won't give any more away, I want you to experience the tale, going in blind. But I will say this....Vocalised Resonance - and that the AVE are Waiting. Listening.

🎙️ What Makes This Story Different?
Unlike my usual self-contained ghost stories or horror shorts, Odam vs Ave is going to be a serialized, long-form epic—told in rich detail, with cinematic pacing and deep emotional arcs. It blends body horror, mystery, ancient science-fiction, and a sharp focus on willpower, betrayal, and legacy as core themes.
It’s about Leo Cauldon, a young student scholar who stumbles across something he shouldn't. A whispering artefact - not in the traditional sense, you'll hear what I mean. And a creature walking the earth that cannot be stopped—only survived.
This isn’t just horror.
It’s existential, beautifully broken, and utterly alien.
🎧 Will this Sci-fi be horror based?
Absolutely yes! The beginning chapters are there just to ease you in - like ALL my stories. They start of pretty lean, and as the chapters build up, they will have a lot more focus - leaning to horror - particularly body horror - so I cannot wait.
If you love stories that build worlds layer by layer, that drip-feed ancient truths through action and unease…
If you want to feel the heat of obsidian armor locking into place…
If you’re ready to walk alongside a character who may save the world—or burn with it—
