Before starting the full-stack programming bootcamp at Nashville Software School, I tutored high school students in many subjects for standardized test prep, and worked as an alterationist for Eric Adler Clothing. The promise of more complex problem-solving intrigued me, and my experience with natural languages gave me confidence that I could handle the syntax of a computer language. Computer programming is just what I needed to get me out of my rut. It continually surprises and challenges me, and offers more room for creativity than I'd even hoped for.

I created an account on Codecademy to learn about JavaScript, and after about two hours of coding, I realized that I felt an overall sense of enthusiasm that I had not experienced with any previous career. I am excited to have found an avenue that allows me to use logical thinking to solve problems, use my creativity to turn my ideas into tangible applications, and challenge myself intellectually by continuously learning new concepts to further my growth as a developer.

I started my career journey in graphic arts, but have found that I appreciate efficient code just as much as a beautiful design. I enjoy diving into any part of the development process, be it layout design, user experience, database structure, or the code itself! My introduction to software development was initially sparked by my band's manager, who has been a developer for 15 years. For me, the most enticing aspect of being a software engineer is that the learning is truly endless! Wearing my nerd on my sleeve here, but the problems are like games in which a developer needs to create and cast spells in order to solve. I'm always looking forward to the next challenge, and for the first time in a long time I no longer dread the end of the weekend because software engineering is just that cool!
