Straight Outta Cobham: The Athletic FC's Chelsea show

39 points from 39 games in 2023...

Matt Davies-Adams has got Simon Johnson and Luke Bosher alongside him to round up the latest frustrating defeat at Goodison Park.

We take your questions, discuss the general malaise around the club at the moment - and wonder whether the owners need to take more accountability for the current state of things on and off the pitch.

When it rains it pours - as Chelsea Women were comfortably beaten 4-1 by Arsenal at The Emirates in a hugely underwhelming performance from Emma Hayes' side.

We'll be back on Thursday to look ahead to the visit of Sheffield United to Stamford Bridge.

Eight points behind *this* United team...

Matt Davies Adams is joined by Liam Twomey and Luke Bosher to reflect on the horror 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

We take a deep dive into some of the worst elements of the performance, Pochettino's demeanour, ponder the bleakness of what this result means for the wider season - and take your questions.

Next up, the unenviable task of a trip to Goodison Park to take on an Everton side full of fury against the Premier League overlords.

The only silver lining is that Jessy Parker Humphrey's is back in the house to look ahead to the small matter of Arsenal v Chelsea in front of a near sell-out crowd at The Emirates.

Oh, and an Toffee related quiz to try and...raise spirits?!

We'll be back on Monday to reflect on the fortunes of CFC and CFCW...

Well - at least it's not dull right?!

Matt Davies-Adams has got two of The Athletic's finest Liam Twomey and Simon Johnson alongside him to round up the bonkers 3-2 win over Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

It was another rollercoaster of an afternoon involving Chelsea - but there's praise for a huge afternoon for Enzo Fernandez, thoughts on the Gallagher red and general chaos that comes with this side.

Plus we've got a rare midweek fixture to look forward to - with a trip to Old Trafford to take on a seemingly hopeless and hapless Manchester United side who are somehow five points above the Blues in the table.

A response is needed...

Matt Davies-Adams has got The Athletic's Dom Fifield and Luke Bosher alongside him to look ahead to the visit of Brighton to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

We ponder team selection given some of the costly suspensions in the backline, whether Roberto De Zerbi's swashbuckling style will actually suit Chelsea - and if the much-anticipated return of Nkunku could be upon us...

There's a quick recap of the Blues news elsewhere - including what Andrey Santos' next move could be following his failed loan at Forest - before we quiz!

We'll be back on Monday to reflect on the Seagulls game and look ahead to the midweek visit to Old Trafford...

It was all going too well...

Matt Davies-Adams has The Athletic's Chelsea experts Simon Johnson and Liam Twomey alongside him to reflect on the hugely disappointing 4-1 defeat at St. James' Park.

But we begin with our tributes to Terry Venables - who has sadly died at the age of 80.

There's analysis of where it all went so horribly wrong against Newcastle, Poch's post-match fury, ill-discipline and your thoughts on the performance.

At least we can always count on CFCW - continuing their unbeaten start to the season and picking up their 20th (!) consecutive home WSL win after their 5-2 triumph over Leicester at Kingsmeadow.

We'll be back on Thursday to look ahead to the visit of old friends Brighton to Stamford Bridge.

Better late than never...

Sickness has threatened to derail proceedings but alas - Matt Davies-Adams has got Dom Fifield and Producer Lucy alongside him to chat the latest Blues news and look ahead to the trip to Newcastle on Saturday.

We talk stadium redevelopment and the threat of sanctions before turning our focus to matters on the pitch - and Chelsea's hopes of coming away from Tyneside with all three points...

There's praise for CFCW after their turned on the style in the Champions League on Thursday night - plus Matt subjects us all to a quiz....

We'll be back on Monday (with hopefully a fully fit squad!) to reflect on the weekend's action.

WHAT. A. GAME. !!!

Matt Davies-Adams has Simon Johnson and Luke Bosher alongside him to reflect on the extraordinary 4-4 draw with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

We take your thoughts and questions - lauding Cole Palmer, the character and spirit showed by the players - and what an important week it's been for Mauricio Pochettino.

It was a good weekend all round - with CFCW picking up a 3-0 victory at Everton and the U21's tasting victory at Leeds.

We're taking our own imposed international break - but we'll be back next Thursday to look ahead to the trip to Newcastle once the Premier League returns!

Recovered from Monday night yet?

Matt Davies-Adams is joined by Dom Fifield and Liam Twomey to look ahead to the visit of Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

We ponder team selection, the Cole Palmer Derby, embracing the underdog status and whether the Blues are actually a bit better than we're giving them credit for...

The Emma Hayes farewell tour begins on Sunday - when CFCW make the trip to Everton. We have a quick look ahead to that one and reflect further on the news of Hayes' departure - before embarking on a quiz!

We'll be back on Monday to round up the City and Everton fixtures - whatever the results...

The purest of pure Barclays...

Matt Davies-Adams is joined by two of The Athletic's finest - Liam Twomey and Simon Johnson - to TRY and round up one of the most ludicrous matches in Premier League history.

It finished Tottenham 1 Chelsea 4 - but how did we get there and how on earth did Nicholas Jackson manage to score a hat-trick?! And why on earth did Spurs play into their hands?! And just what the HELL was going on?!!!

Amid all the chaos we almost forget the seismic news to reach us on Saturday - that rather unthinkably, Emma Hayes will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Times like these call for an emergency appearance from the one and only Jessy Parker Humphreys to tell us more.

We'll be back on Thursday to preview the visit of Manchester City (eek) to Stamford Bridge.

A precious home win...

Luke Bosher, Dom Fifield and Matt Davies-Adams are with you to reflect on the 2-0 win over Blackburn which secured safe passage to the quarter-finals of the League Cup - and set up a meeting with high-flying Newcastle in the next round.

Simon Johnson pops up with his take live from Stamford Bridge - before we round up the rest of the main talking points from the ultimately comfortable win for the Blues.

Then it's the small matter of a look ahead to the visit to North London on Monday night in the first official 'Mauricio Pochettino Derby' as he takes on his former side Tottenham. We've got a full preview and look at how Chelsea can go about nullifying and ultimately beating the table-toppers...

There's a word on the other Blues news including CFCW's trip to Aston Villa - we've got a quiz which takes *rather* a long time to complete.

We'll be back on Tuesday hot off the back of that game to HOPEFULLY be reflecting on a statement win for Poch & co.
