    Entertaining and Quick Read
This was an entertaining and quick read. The mystery had a few nice twists and turns. Faith gets involved in another mystery and this time gets to go undercover. This is a fun addition to the series. I hope the rest of the series becomes available on Audible so I can listen to them as well.

    Publisher's Summary:
What's a girl to do when her imprisoned brother begs her to delve into their father's 16-year-old murder conviction? How about peel back the lies, upend the fairy tales, and roil the populace of Lavitte - a sweet apple of a town with a wormy, festering core? That's what Allison Fennimore chooses. Despite her infamous surname and people's wilted memories, this jaded cynic of a daughter sinks her teeth in and refuses to let go. She can practically taste the bitterness of that long-ago, twisted night when two teenagers died, linked to her father by bad luck and a few strands of rope.
Ignoring the dense local atmosphere, where image trumps substance and lies become legend, Allison stirs the pot. The more layers she discards, the more elusive the truth becomes. And when a key source of information turns up dead, the dark edges of resentment coil in around her like a slowly tightening noose. As revelations get ugly, Allison may wish she'd never ventured toward the forbidden fruit of truth.

Not what I expected at all!
Let me start by saying this is not my normal genre, actually I normally do not like "detective" type of books at all but I loved this book. Raveled may have changed my mind about trying new genres.
I liked the main character Allison, she is a little bitter, very smart and really quick witted. The many other characters were all unique, some naive, some evil, some too easily persuaded, some just plain crazy. The story had me guessing from beginning to end, there is nothing predictable about this book! Very well written, I would read/listen to another book by the author.
The narration was PERFECT! Rebecca Roberts made this book that much better with her ability to change her voice for the many characters. Her rendition of Allison was great with a smooth voice and her emotions came though excellently! I honestly think her voice made me fall into this story completely. I will definitely be listening to more of her work!

    Any additional comments?
The novel "Raveled" is so well-written and exciting.

    Paradise, Pageants, and ....Murder
I just discovered this series. I was delighted. I'm going to go back at the first so I have lots of enjoyable listening ahead of me!
I love all the characters. I want to hang out with them!
    Irritatingly Dumb
I had forgotten how frequently stupid Mattie is and how grating the narrator's voice gets. She sounds extraordinarily ditzy. I hate the author's use of phrases like "I did a deep breath" which is how Junie B Jones talks in that children's book.
I was in the mood for cheerful and silly, but this was too dumb.
    Lee Ann
Another enjoyable book in the series. Not her best though.
Enjoyed the entire series, look forward to more books. Thanks

Detective Michael Patton of the LAPD has been targeted by a serial killer named the Chemist. He does not know why. Two girls are already dead, and a third has only 24 hours to live. For Detective Patton this is a game he has to win.
    Members Reviews:
    Intense, Twisty, Multi-Faceted,
LAPD Detective Patton and his partner Charlie Holland are intent on catching a serial killer called "The Chemist" . In the course of their investigation, they discover there are numerous other players in the case. Detective Patton comes to the realization that The Chemist" is after him next. The writing is very good and the mistakes are minimal. The characters are nicely fleshed out and believable. There is an ending of a sort but the villain gets to move on to the "next book". I enjoyed this book up to the ending. HOWEVER, I DO NOT l like books that do not come to a conclusion. I will not read another of these.
Very good start to a series
Patton is a LAPD cop and a serial killer has targeted him. The problem is that he has no idea why he's being targeted. The killer, The Chemist, has a special reason that Patton is picked, and will only let Patton and his partner get as close as The Chemist wants them to. Also, the have to play The Chemist's game, and only The Chemist knows the rules. As Patton and his partner get to the truth, "The Game" take a very personal turn, then Patton knows exactly why he's picked. That's all I want to say about the plot, anything more would be spoilers.
There's a lot going on in Playing the Game, far too much to go into now. That being said, this is a fantastic read. It has a lot of plot twists that will keep the reader glued to each page. There are some amazing plot twists. The characters are life like and they seem to jump off the page. This also has a lot of cat and mouse between Patton and The Chemist, and that's one part I really enjoyed.
If you start this, you won't be sorry. I kept on saying to myself, "Just one more chapter....just one more chapter." I was reading this to all hours of the night, and loved every second of it.
Great read, get it and enjoy Playing the Game. I can't wait to get the next book in the series.
    Geographical confusion
As an avid reader of police procedural mysteries I was excited to begin this book by Gould. As the story began to unfold I found myself really enjoying the concept. However, the author needs to decide if he is going to set this story in LA or London as his writing often mixed English and British languages. A "lift" in America does not mean the same as elevator or carpool. A "boot" is not the trunk of a car. All the "whilst" and "three quarters of an hour" were so distracting that I ended up getting more and more frustrated as I read. With the spelling issues (favour, colour, again decide which side of the pond you're writing for) and grammatical errors (who vs whom, me vs I) I found myself yelling out corrections as I read as if the author could somehow hear me.
I also didn't feel attached to the characters and found myself having to reread several paragraphs to figure out which character was currently being discussed.
    Set in LA?
Not a bad plot but....if you are going to be writing a story set in L. A.

The only exceptions are the handsome state cop who once badly broke Lizzie's heart and desperately wants another chance - sheriff Cody Chevrier. A rash of freak accidents and suicides has left a string of dead men - all former local cops. Now the same cruel eyes that watched them die are on Lizzie....

Tough Police Procedural Set In Wild North Maine Woods
This first book in a new detective series is engaging and focuses on new arrival to rural Maine, Homicide Investigator Lizzie Snow. The book is complicated with multiple story lines and mysteries which interweave. There are multiple narrative points of view in the story telling (we hear the thoughts of each character rather than only one) so the reader sees the big picture. This allows us to be privy to more information than some of the characters which adds to the scary factor. The complex character development and strong sense of place makes for a fast paced listen.
Potter does a good job with the narration. The writing is good also and this first book bodes well for the series. Be aware that there are errors in the publisher's summary here on audible which were confusing. The ex-boyfriend, for example, is not Chevrier--he is in reality the new boss. Recommended if you like police investigative procedurals and don't mind a fair amount of violence discussed.
    Maine Myths
As a Maine native, I normally love novels that are set in my home state. Unfortunately, Winter at the Door contained too many stereotypes for my taste. No, not everyone who lives in rural northern Maine is an uneducated, narrow-mined hick.
Lizzie Snow could have been an interesting character - a strong, smart woman cop. Instead of acting intelligent and competent, Lizzie kept taking stupid risks and keeping secrets.
Sarah Graves is a good writer - the plot had lots of potential - so I might try another book by this author. However, I want smart characters to act smart, not like an immature teenager who has something to prove.
    Pretty Good Start
This is a pretty good start to a new series. Sarah Graves created an interesting world in Bearkill Maine. Lizzie Snow is a interesting character and I look forward to reading more about her and the other characters.
    Great new police procedural
Great new debut series with a female police woman. Leaving Boston to a small town on border of Maine near Canada. Lizzie Snow has her own agenda trying to find her missing niece after her sister was killed. All this leads to many crimes which may or may not be related. I'm looking forward to the next in series. Enough suspense, some mild violence and an underlying sense of humor makes both the characters and storyline interestingly enough to keep reading. Very good plot plus excellent narrator makes this a great listen. Jeri, book lover regardless the forum.
Great new series for this author; great narration.
I've always enjoyed the Sarah Graves books. As usual, this was well written.

Action Packed Global Adventure - Great Series!
Where does The Secret Crown rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I have over 500 books in my Audible library so that would be a hard question BUT I would have to say this is defiantly in the top 1/3 of my favorites.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Oh yes. It begins with a phone call to Payne from an acquaintance saying that he believes a friend of his (Pieter Ulster) relative may have been a Nazi sympathizer. This is based on a few trunks containing valuables from that period with the Ulster family crest. Of course this turns out not to be the case but the race is on to find some missing treasure before someone else (a bad guy) does.
What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Dick Hill brings his impressively talented voices. He is a favorite of mine and I could listen to him all day.
    Any additional comments?
This was such a good book. I thoroughly enjoy Chris Kuzneski's Payne & Jones series. If you like the Primal series or Jonathan Quinn and his bantering with Nate then you will enjoy this book. Kind of paramilitary, fast paced super hero stunts that are not always 100% within the legal parameters but completely exhilarating just the same. Anyway this book has a great ending that brings P. Ulster full circle with his families past. Super book, highly recommended!
    Reader is Santa Clause
The reader makes characters sound like Santa Claus or Jewish Rabbi. Horrible. Takes away for adventure factor.
Not very descriptive story. More time was spent on aggravating attempt at suspense than thrill of discovery that treasure hunters feel. I did not feel it. Not Indiana Jones but Paw and Paw Kettle.
    Entertaining but somewhat predictable.
Always love Dick Hill. Great reader. The story was a classic Jones and Paine story. Good plot twists but a little predictable. Found myself with unanswered questions throughout. Overall a good book.
    Fantastic!
Another great story from Chris Kuzneski and great performance by Dick Hill! I can't wait to get the next book!
    Disappointing all the way around
Having lived in Bavaria and Schwabia for four years, I anxiously anticipated this novel.
I was truly disappointed with both the story and cheesy dialogues.

    Members Reviews:
A Delightful Story of Murder in London 1816
I love this new mystery series set in England in the early 1800s. It continues the puzzle/murder solving adventures of neighbors and friends Lucy Harrington and Major Robert Kurland. This time the story is set during the season in London. So, much of the action revolved around parties and dances and the formal life, dress, and manners of 1816.
I have to say that I really enjoyed and preferred the setting of the village of Kurland St Mary from book one over the London setting of this second installment. There is very little detail about the London environment and surroundings. The author really captured the village in beautiful vivid detail which made it far more engaging. To me, the best part of this book was the dialogue and fantastic conversations and interactions between the characters. But--that said--I admit I found myself missing the village and perked up whenever it was mentioned. I hope the next book finds them home again in the country.
The narration was good. A light and easy listen as the adventure continues in a good new mystery series.
    Delicately paced mystery/romance
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Catherine Lloyd has a lovely voice and in her narration, captures the stifling constricts of society in the Regency period. Acknowledging that, I still think the speed could be increased a bit. I did, for instance, play it on double speed for a bit and had no problem understanding it.
Would you recommend Death Comes to London to your friends? Why or why not?
I would recommend it as a enjoyable escapist read with two main characters that are both infuriating and engaging.
    Any additional comments?
The reader has to wait for awhile until the mystery part of the novel begins. I would prefer a bit more emphasis on the mystery and less on the burgeoning romance. Another reviewer pointed out that some of the behaviours portrayed are unlikely given the rigid social order of the day but, for me, it's almost necessary to inject some anachronism in order that the female characters are able to do anything more interesting than sitting quietly and gossiping.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series.
    Fine mystery, narrated very slowly
I took a chance on this second volume based on my enjoyment--with caveats--of the first.

    Members Reviews:
    Don't pass over this book.
Would you listen to Broken Promises again? Why?
So far this is the weakest book in the series, but you need to read it to keep up with the story line. The worst part of it is how corny and unbelievable the court case is. Of course this is light reading so what do you expect.
If youve listened to books by Terri Reid before, how does this one compare?
I like the series, this one is not as good as the rest.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The story line that pertains to the lost daughter is the better part of the book.

    Hilarious throughout
This story kept me captivated from the beginning to the end. When you put together a rowdy crowd of senior citizens, anything can happen...and it does! I want to go back and read all the previous books in the series. I cannot wait to see what catastrophes they can cook up...without any effort at all. The characters are varied and believable. You have to travel along on this series of mishaps!
    Fun and Entertaining
This is a fun and entertaining series. I enjoyed the crew from Iowa and Jackie wasn't as annoying as she usually is. I missed the interaction between Emily and Etienne. I hope there will be more of them in the next book.
Dutch me deadly - another crazy tour
This is an entertaining series and the characters remain true throughout. The narrator has a lot of voices to keep true and she does a great job. This wasn't the best of the lot, but it was still fun.
