    Thank you!
i Am a Christian and enjoy the light heartednesss of your books. I have several..:) like your stories...you paint such a nice little picture in my mind.... and your characters and narration are very interesting....very nice job!!!!! I recommend these stories ..they are so much fun!
    Mediocre
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first book in the series. The plot seemed forced and less provocative. That said, the story was fun enough to listen to and I was interested enough to keep listening.
The narration was absolutely horrendous. I did not enjoy this narrator in the first book, but she could not do British accents at all. She should not have been reading a book that requires British accents.
I will continue to listen to this series because it's light and interesting enough, but this book was way below my expectations.
    Loved it
Clean, held my attention, I would put off other things so that I could get back to this.
Such a fun and entertaining audio book!
Really enjoyed this book. I love a good mystery, and it's even better with some humor!
    Not really a culinary mystery
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The character is kind of a nerdy, goody two shoes type. Sort of gets on your nerves a bit. Can someone be this naive at 56? It's ok, it's not what I'm used to with Dianne Mott Davidson.
Would you recommend English Trifle to your friends? Why or why not?
Only if they start with the first book.
What three words best describe Diane Dabczynskis voice?
    Kind of annoying.
Could you see English Trifle being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    No
    Any additional comments?
I don't think that Sadie is feisty or sassy at all. She is kind of scared of her shadow and is always worried about what people will think. She needs to grow up and get tough. I don't like how they portray women in their 50's as technologically stupid and out of date with everything. It's not Dianne Mott Davidson and you can tell this was written for LDS people. Oh well, once I start a series I have to finish it.

Terry lands at San Francisco International Airport ready to start his new life with Sarah, the American journalist he married after a transatlantic love affair. But Sarahs a no show. But then dead women start turning up, all with two things in common: each victim had exposed a scandal just before her death...and all of their names appear on a list written by Sarah. As a journalist, Sarah has revealed her share of scandals, and Terry realizes that shes not missing - shes on the run.
As his American dream rapidly descends into a waking nightmare, Terry must plunge headlong into the dark recesses of his new homeland to find Sarah before the killer does. But as he nears the truth about Sarah, he realizes shes very different from the woman he thought he married.

    Great story
If you like Simon Wood's previous books you are sure to like this one. I think he is an
author who gets better and better with each book.
This story has a fairly simple premise, but Wood gets so much plot out of it, I was quite impressed. Terry is a likable character and you can't help but root for him the whole time. He may not always make the right choices, but his heart is in the right place.
The plot has many twists and turn and surprising moments. I kept thinking I had it figured out, but never quite did.
My only complaint is that this narrator had a sort of nebulous English accent for Terry. Sometimes he even sounded Australian. But other than that his reading was good.
There is mystery, intrigue and suspense in No Show. I recommend it.
    Stranger in a strange land
This has got to be one of the most intoxicating reads I've ever read! The suspense is wide open all the way to the end. This author's work is so addicting. It's also creepy as in Stephen King creepy but way better. If you're into audiobooks, the narrator is absolutely wonderful. He does a great voice for all characters, also a great British accent.
Terry is just arriving to the US from England where he will now live with his American wife who is a reporter. However, Sarah fails to show up at the airport to pick him up. Imagine arriving in another country where you know no one. This is what Terry is facing. He takes transportation to where his new home is only to have to break into the house because he has no keys. There's no sign of his wife or that she has packed to go away. She's just simply disappeared. His neighbor sees him breaking in and calls the cops, which only makes matters worse. Adding to that, he has to wait to report her as missing. Meanwhile, he starts his new job because he doesn't want to get fired before he even gets started. His boss and her sidekick aren't the most pleasant people. They appear to be hiding something. Things only seem to get worse. Women start turning up dead with their tongues cut out. Terry can only wonder if this has anything to Sarah's disappearance. He doesn't know who to trust. He does make one friend so the two of them set out on an investigation of their own. Will he find Sarah? And if he does, will she still be alive?
Met the author who is better than the book
What did you love best about No Show?
The concept. Grabbed me from the beginning.

    Killers deserve to win
Would you try another book from Robert Wilson and/or Gildart Jackson?
I'm been a Robert Wilson fan, so I welcomed this book, but perhaps this will be the last one.
Would you recommend Capital Punishment to your friends? Why or why not?
Only those with strong stomachs, weak attachment to ethics and compromised humanity. In other words, nobody I know. A protaganist who "cares," but kills, his whining, shouting lady love who accepts the largesse of her ex-husband, the world class villain who owns the world and corrupts all in his reach. An unlucky ingenue whose supposed beauty captivates all men. An assortment of creeps. Almost all ends well after the stage is littered with corpses, and the worst monster turns out to have a heart of gold who funds a foundation to make up for the evil. Yech!!!
Have you listened to any of Gildart Jacksons other performances before? How does this one compare?
He is the one bright spot. Wonderful voices and characters.
Was Capital Punishment worth the listening time?
Wilson can certainly spin a tale, but this one nauseates.
    yeah
I loved the narrator :) he makes the story a lot more interesting to hear
    Realistic,intelligent and exteremly exciting novel
Robert Wilson's novels are throughly researched and realistic. I can imagine this happening in actual life and his protagonist is life like with normal problems and abilities. The best seller writers rely on formulas with characters who are like comic book figures that are unbelievable and too heroic to be real. This book deserves a major award, five stars all around.

    Hmmmmmm
Whoever it was that said there are only four basic plots for novels -- or seven, I've seen both -- obviously never read this book. In terms of way-out plotting, it doesn't get any more unique than this.
And a seriously grisly tale it is, too. Don't listen to parts of this one while eating dinner.
No overt spoiler here, but fans of Jonathan Swift won't be disappointed -- or much puzzled, either -- by some plot elements. Swift did it better, but then he wasn't writing a novel.
One further warning: Quite some time ago, I'd read -- as in an actual paper book -- one of Kerry Greenwood's novels, and eventually I remembered that I'd had the same sort of trouble getting into that book as I did with this one. Apparently these are almost "cult" books, with some of their own special language and "things" and/or characters who reappear time after time.
But I'd forgotten that, so with this one, when I found myself profoundly confused about who -- or what -- "The Goddess" was, or what sort of being "Hector" might be, I had to backtrack, and listen again. She doesn't explain in each book who -- or what -- some of these characters are. But fear not -- it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't have needed to backtrack -- it became as clear as it needed to be, eventually.
It's not all bad -- the book has its charms. I loved "Serena" -- no spoiler to tell you she's an adorable donkey. Any scene in which Serena appeared was pure delight. I also got a kick out of her "mouse police" squad, which are feral cats she keeps to keep her bakery basement mouse free -- the antics of the mouse police are a nice, funny, touch.
So, okay. A fairly good book. I'm sure this series has its passionate fans. I'm not quite there, but... it was reasonably entertaining, and what more can you ask?
    Wasted my credit
Would you be willing to try another one of Louise Siversens performances?
    No
    Any additional comments?
Could not finish it it was so bad. The author fixated on muffins and cats with some semblance of a very thin story line.

All indications suggest that this person has simply vanished. Or is he right under their noses? Simon Serrailler is obliged to delve deeper and scratch out answers, in this addictive mystery of surpassing darkness by the best-selling Susan Hill.

    Riveting
What I find enjoyable about this series is that it delves into lives of the main characters. The reader is introduced to characters without always knowing what role they play in the story. This style is what has captivated my interest. As soon as I finish one book I'm looking forward to the next. When I've finished the series I feel sure I'll listen to them all again.
This is not a "cozy" mystery (I do enjoy a well written cozy). There is a serial killer - something I usually avoid in books and films, However, I did not find the violence gratuitous.
These books are, in part, the story of the Serrailler family, including Simon who is a police officer. I'm fascinated by the family as much as by the mysteries.
    Steven Pacey's narration is perfect.
Great series and Steven Pacey is amazing!
Would you consider the audio edition of A Question of Identity to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the printed version.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I really looked forward to listening every day.
What does Steven Pacey bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I can't stress enough how fantastic Steven Pacey is. I've listened to a lot of audio books and he blows the others away. He manages to have a voice for each character that is so subtly distinctive that you always know immediately who is speaking. He does men, women, children, creepy characters -- all brilliant. If I read the book instead I wouldn't have been able to get into it like I do when I listen t Steven Pacey.
One of the Best in the Series
I've read the entire Simon Serrailler series, pretty much back to back and have enjoyed the entire ride. I was planning to review each one individually but sort of fell behind. But it's safe to say they are all very good books in my mind. And the narration by Steven Pacey is over the top great. He is the reason I came across this series of books to begin with. So this is more of a review of the series as a whole than this individual book, so take it any way you want.
Susan Hill is a master story teller. There is so much more to these books than the detective work. The way she brings out all the characters and side stories is truly elegant. I feel like I know the characters personally from Simon himself, to his various love interests, his sister and her kids, father and coworkers - its an ever-changing environment and Susan bring it to life beautifully.

    Members Reviews:
Liked it - But not my favorite
I enjoy all the Scumble River Mysteries because I have become attached to the characters. The narrator is always great as well. There are a few things that prevent this one from being a favorite. I was very much looking forward to some exciting changes in Skye's love life in this book. I had gotten tired of her previous relationship and was very much looking forward to a new relationship in this book. But it never really makes progress. Skye spends a lot of time being obsessed about "taking it slow" and when she does get about to get close to her new man, something prevents it every time. So that was a letdown. The mystery was okay except that it was the only time that comes to mind where I knew who the guilty party was way before Skye did. She seemed a little clueless this time around.
Bad boy trying to be good
Would you listen to Murder of a Real Bad Boy again? Why?
yes I would, I actually would listen to the whole series over again. these books are really good, and there are little hidden hints that I feel I miss the first time that I listen to each story then at the end I will say "oh yeah I remember that happening"
What other book might you compare Murder of a Real Bad Boy to and why?
I think these series of books have a similar comparison to the Harry Bosh books for me.. I love that series just how each book continues where the previous one left off at and that is how these books are, and you really have to listen to what is going on in the book to figure out the clues just like Sky does..
Which character as performed by Christine Leto was your favorite?
I like Sky in this book, she is pretty much my favorite character in this whole series, but I do like May Sky's mother.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I am not sure what the tag line should be that is a hard one..
    Any additional comments?
    None
Good performance but the listed narrator is wrong
    Any additional comments?
Another entertaining book in the series but there is one correction to the credits. This book, like all the others is narrated by Christine Leto not Khristine Hvan. This is actually important to me since after 8 books you get used to the tempo & characterizations of a certain narration style and changes to a new narrator can be jarring even if the new person does an excellent job.
    Spoiler Alert
This is a fun, witty and interesting series filled with entertaining characters and a smidgen of drama. As always Skye gets involved personally with a mystery in her small town. There is a lot going on- the missing cat, the murder of her handyman and her relationships with two men.

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
The unbeatable master of suspense returns, in a wickedly wayward case of artists, models, and murder. If larceny is good for the soul, Palm Beach must be confidence heaven - so discovers Lawrence Sanders's sleuth-about-town Archy McNally in his third boffo baffler, McNally's Risk. Hired by a formidable matron to investigate the shadowy bona fides of her bubble-headed son's beloved, Archy is wowed by the enigmatic innamorata's purity and pulchritude. But when the artist for whom she posed is killed, McNally's job takes on a decidedly dangerous turn, and he begins to suspect the demure damsel might be both a poser and a poseur. Fighting his way through copious deaths and fiendish scams, Archy pieces together elements of a strange and grisly puzzle, including: a sealed letter containing a horrifying secret; a nude dancer who knows more than she reveals; a missing portrait someone would kill for; and a butterfly tattoo in a very private place, which could be the key to the murder spree.
Lawrence Sanders's latest Palm Beach thriller fairly sizzles with greed, glitz, gals, and gore. And it proves, once again, that Archy McNally is, as Cosmopolitan described him, "as amusing and rich as Dorothy Sayers' great creation, Lord Peter Wimsey".
    Members Reviews:
Archie McNally's A No Risk Choice: Again!
Victor Bevine's interpretation of Lawrence Sanders playboy detective is note perfect. Neither Sanders nor Bevine ever drop out of character. Good thing. Archie's one helluva character.
You will forget this plot faster than you'll hunger after a Chinese meal. And you'll enjoy it just as much. Archie exists to entertain in his time-warped way. Once again Sanders invents a drawing room mystery right out of the 1920s-30s with characters who act and talk as if rock and roll never happened. But they do it on cell phones and computers.
There's only one warning here... wait a while between McNally stories. They're a lot like way-rich deserts and you need recovery time. I'll get the next McNally, a few novels from now, maybe when I want a good listen on my way to Hilton Head this summer. Sander's has created the perfect companion for a long ride... his name's Archie McNally. And there's no risk in listening to Victor Bevine bring him to life.
    Enjoy.
Fun, Light-Hearted Romp Among the Palm Beach Elite
This is a fun entry in the Archie McNally series set amongst the rich of Palm Beach and a fumbling detective (Archie). It has the whole cast of eccentric characters of this long-running series in rare form. Of course rich people don't work with the police (even if it's murder), so everyone has to play a detecting role. You need to suspend a fair amount of belief here. The McNally franchise blends a lot of comedy with a mystery motif. It is getting a little dated (the technology used by the characters in the book is now ancient); so think of it as a 1970's period piece.

    Realistic characters!
A story that makes cops into real people, not just robotic law enforcement. Lives & loves that hit home, from those who handle a tough job.
Well-written & believable characters with great emotion & subplots.
Recommended for those who enjoy a crime thriller with heart.
    Boring, Boring, Boring!!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Even the slightest chapter of something other than droning on and on about police procedures.
What could Frank Zafiro have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Shortened the book by about 10 or 20 chapters.
How could the performance have been better?
The performance was actually the only acceptable part of the entire 8 hours. I think it's the only reason I didn't give it up during the 4th hour.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Complete disappointment. I kept waiting for something remotely exciting to happen and it never did.
    Any additional comments?
Only that I'm glad I only paid $1.99 and not the full price. I may or may not read another Zafiro book, I'll have to wait and see the storyline before deciding.
    Good crime novel.
Very readable. Plenty of action following the lives of policemen on and off duty fighting crime in the neighborhood.

PMG Her plots are wonderful. Read M Marion's intro to The Family Vault. I'm getting every one I can on my Kindle. Re-reading is as wonderful when they were first written. Sisters in Crime writers and members that I know consider her one of the best.

    Fun author!
    A great series
The characters in this series are delightful. Although I like Janet and Madoc Rhys even more (written under name of Alisa Craig), these books are thoroughly enjoyable. More please!!!!!
