Entertainment is subject to fads just like fashion.  The sitcom, for example, is no longer in fashion.  Soaps are really not in fashion.  For some reason, dysfunctional families and sad children are super hot, so if you ever want to feel bad, you have your choice of drug.  Or you could watch old movies and marvel at what's changed, as well as what hasn't.
