But prison wasn’t the end of his story.

Today, Fernando is walking onto theater stages as an actor; using his life, his pain, his faith, and his second chance for something greater.

My brother Phil Hernandez and I have been friends for a long time. We’re not blood, but that’s my brother.

We talk about growing up in church, trying to meet expectations, some of the things we believed back then that we might see differently now, playing music together in FiveForty, our dads, friendship, life and of course sports.

What happens when the life you’re living finally brings you to the end of yourself? For DJ Paden it took alcohol, DUIs, prison, close calls with death, and hitting rock bottom before he finally cried out to Jesus.

Today, DJ is pouring back into people who are fighting the same battles he once fought. He opened a gym in Huntington Beach, Kingdom Fit, that’s about more than building a stronger body it’s about building a stronger spirit, finding purpose, and pointing people to Christ.

From the streets of Philly to planting a church in Southern California, Troy Fink’s story is a powerful reminder that God never gives up on us.

Growing up surrounded by love but also chaos, Troy was pulled into the streets, partying, drugs, crime, and becoming a father at a young age. Even then, he felt God calling him but without anyone to disciple him, following Jesus wasn’t easy.

That experience gave him a burden to make sure others don’t have to walk alone the way he did.

Today, after more than a decade in ministry, Troy along with his wife leads a new church plant, Four Winds @fourwindsca , in Chatsworth, California, helping people grow in Christ and discover their God-given calling.
