Paul Getzel is the Executive Director of NAMI Seattle and gives us an overview of the important work his organization does in our community, as well as nationwide. Providing education and awareness, plus working on advocacy, is part of the work. There's a special volunteer opportunity incoming - on Thursday October 10th, NAMI Seattle volunteers, staff, and Board members will sell 50/50 raffle tickets to fans at Lumen Field during that night's Seahawks/49ers game. One lucky raffle winner will go home with half of the funds collected, the other half going to support NAMI Seattle and other wonderful local nonprofits who are Seahawks Spirit of 12 Partners, like Seattle Out and Proud Foundation, Northwest Harvest, and Compass Housing Alliance. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, register at: https://www.seahawks.com/community/charitable-foundation/50-50-volunteer

Michelle Millman is the new CEO of Cancer Pathways, having taken the helm nearly a year ago, being tapped personally by founder/former CEO Anna Gottleib. Michelle retired from her days as a KIRO 7 morning news anchor, with Anna soon inviting her in for this new role. Michelle has long volunteered with Cancer Pathways and carries her own personal stories to relate about facing cancer, the diagnosis, what it does in our life, how we manage it. Michelle is the perfect person to lead Cancer Pathways as Anna steps away, and we certainly feel it as she shares the work taking place, both locally and across the country. Michelle extends the invitation to their biggest annual fundraiser, the "Surviving with Style Fashion Show and Gala", Saturday October 19th at the Westin in Downtown Seattle. This is important work to support, because each of us has likely been touched by this disease in some way, and because all the programs are free to those who use them, but as we know "free" does still have a price tag.

Tyler Pagel is Development Director for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Washington, Oregon, and Northern California, and brings us details for their big 2024 fundraiser, the "More than Pink Breast Cancer Walk". It's a great celebration, happening at the Woodland Park Zoo Saturday, September 28, with speakers and honors being paid to Survivors, Thrivers, and those no longer with us. After proceedings conclude, participants can enjoy the zoo through the afternoon. Pre-registration is requested for the Walk, so as to make entering the zoo more streamlined. This is a fundraiser where monies contributed are used for research, along with education, community support and advocacy for those going through the breast cancer challenge! Volunteers are always welcome, as the opportunities are bountiful.

Gina Grappone is the Development Director of The Recovery Cafe, whose origins in Seattle date back 20 years. Today there are 2 locations, one at Denny & Boren, another in the SODO area. Brian Belefant is a Portland-based author and award-winning photographer who began his career as an advertising copywriter, writing hundreds of commercials for major brands, from Nissan to Pepsi. His short stories appear in American Writers Review, Magpie Messenger, Story Unlikely, Libretto and Half and One. He's written several novels and discusses his newest "The Sultan of Garbage," about a disillusioned commercial photographer obsessed with the mounds of trash that our society produces.
