Grrrr - What free time?! In this episode of Supermum Is A Fraud, Sarah and Tilda rip apart the notion that mothers do all the mother things in their spare time. Mothering is work, and therefore ideally should come with all the benefits that a paid job does - including actual free time.

In honour of Maternal Mental Health Week 2021, we share raw and real stories of our postpartum journeys to recovery. There are things that mums are never told - it's often seen as shameful or embarrassing to have mental health difficulties after becoming mum. Even more, mums are often perceived as 'not good enough' when they need mental and emotional support.
You are not alone. Although it's incredibly difficult and potentially isolating, it's totally normal to struggle after becoming a mum, no matter how old your child is. By sharing our stories, we hope that you can be inspired to share your story and reach out for help.

Oh my goodness, how much shit is out there from health enthusiasts, telling mums they have the secret for how to get their bodies back? Hold on a second, back from where exactly? We don't get to switch bodies for a minute while we transition into motherhood, and then just bounce our souls right back into our pre-mum bods. How are we forgetting that our bodies have just performed an astoundlingly challenging feat of giving birth, or that our minds have are now adapting to a completely new way of looking at the world? It would make no sense to go back to the way we were.
In this episode, Tilda and Sarah debunk the idea that who we are as mothers is not good enough - that something is missing. They get into the nitty gritty of what ACTUALLY goes on when we become mothers, and help you all to breathe a sigh of relief and acceptance so that you can flourish into who you are NOW.

Wow, well this episode certainly had Tilda and I triggered. Listen in as we share our stories of times when we were judged for wanting to simply tend to our children's needs for attachment.
It is sad and unfortunate that completely inaccurate information is perpetuated within cultures and society, making mothers feel that their attachment to their children is detrimental. The exact opposite is the truth - and THAT is backed by science.

Whether we know it or not, most mothers come to the journey with preconceived ideas of what they should do, how they should act, and how they should feel about being a mum. In this episode, Tilda and Sarah talk about one listener's struggle to deal with feeling like she's missed the mark when the reality of her motherhood doesn't match up to what she had imagined it to be.
If you're a mum and you feel like you're living in that gap between the real side of your motherhood, and what you think it 'should' look like instead, listen in for some gems of advice.

In Episode 6, we discuss how to let it go of that punch-in-the-gut feeling when anyone offers advice about anything to do with being a mother.
Whether it's what to feed your baby or how many times, which schools are best, how you speak to your child, or what you do with your own damn life, unsolicited advice is annoying (understatement), and can be very damaging to a mother's self-esteem.
Listen in as we look at this topic from the perspective of the advice-receiver, as well as the advice-giver so you can learn to be more confident in your motherhood, and just smile and nod when someone gives you their two cents ;-)

Dear mamas,
You are human. You can't possibly expect to do ALL THE ROLES and do all of them well. In this episode, Tilda & Sarah destroy the myth that mums should be able to keep up with work, home, career, and life overall. This myth puts so much undue pressure on mums, who then constantly feel like they're failing.
Listening to this episode will help you to see that you need to put your happiness before anything else, and follow what YOU want and what feels easy. The rest is just noise.

Join us as Tilda & I debunk the myth that says in order to be a mother, we must be selfless. We must give up on our own personal aspirations and goals, and give our all to 'just' mothering. This episode will help you to understand why it is so so important for your health to tend to your own needs outside of motherhood, and how you might go about doing so.

Join Tilda & I as we prove that there is no such wrong as doing something 'wrong' as a mum. There are an infinite number of ways to 'do' mothering. To judge and criticise a woman, saying she is mothering wrong, is pretty stupid - because there is no standard you can measure her choices against.
It's very simple - are you mostly doing your best to feed/clothe/love your kids? Then you're right. If it feels right for you, don't give the naysayers the satisfaction of your attention.
We tell our true stories of motherhood, we laugh, we share our mum fails, and we debunk the myth of the perfect mother.
