Supernatural Opinions

KJ and Meredith are joined by first time guest Merrilee (Fear-Coded podcast) to talk about Lady Gaga (and also this episode of Supernatural, if they must). It’s a body swap! KJ leads a crusade against the memory of John Winchester (what else is new?) and dubs the actual ghost in this episode a bit of a dick! KJ and Merrilee take the show on a hard left tangent about the Jurassic Park/World Franchise. This episode raises a whole new set of loopholes around the vessel plotline that need to be discussed.
CW Episode Description: Gary (guest star Colton James), a teenage nerd, conjures up a body-switching spell and changes bodies with Sam. Thrilled by his new handsome and built body, Gary (now Sam) investigates a case with Dean and takes advantage of his good looks and age by hitting on women and getting drunk. Meanwhile, Sam is stuck in Gary's teenage body, dealing with intrusive parents and high school.

Making their debut (long overdue!) on Supernatural Opinions, it’s fellow podsquad member Elayna joining KJ and Meredith this week. And consensus on this episode is: this psychiatric hospital should be closed immediately and indefinitely. Dean Winchester gives some truly horrific health stats in this episode and KJ comes in with a list of where the average person should be just to make it that much worse.
CW Episode Description: A former hunter named Martin (guest star Jon Gries), who is currently institutionalized, calls Sam and Dean for help investigating a case in the mental hospital. The brothers get themselves admitted as patients to check out the mysterious monster that is attacking the patients, but their incarceration pushes both to the breaking point as they unleash their inner demons against each other.

KJ and Meredith step into this fandom and convention-centric episode of Supernatural with the help of fandom podcaster Sadie Witkowski (In Defense of Fandom). This episode takes place at a convention and there are some suggestions we’d like to see at the existing Supernatural convention circuits! There’s also some talk about the portrayal of fans in this episode and a deep desire for a Ghostfacers reference and everyone picks who they would cosplay as at this style of Supernatural convention.
CW Episode Description: Super fan Becky (guest star Emily Perkins) uses Chuck's (guest star Rob Benedict) phone to trick Sam and Dean into attending a Supernatural fan convention, complete with fans dressed up as Sam and Dean. One of the activities is a live action role playing game, but things quickly turn sour after a real ghost appears on the scene.

KJ and Meredith are welcoming a new voice to the show this week, David (Gimmicks, Fear-Coded, Are You My Mother?) to talk about an episode of television that loves television. David brings his expertise in genre-bending TV, KJ accuses the Supernatural writers of colluding with the Grey’s Anatomy team, and Meredith has to update our mythology section now that The Trickster’s true identity is revealed.
CW Episode Description: The Trickster (guest star Richard Speight Jr.) throws Sam and Dean into an alternate universe where they are characters in different television series, including a sexy medical show, a Japanese game show, a forensics show and a sitcom. The brothers realize the only way to get out of this world is to play along and become the characters in the shows. However, Castiel appears and warns them this universe is dangerous and they must get out before they become trapped.

KJ and Meredith are joined by first time guest Michelle to talk about this week’s episode that digs into the concept of aging and high stakes betting! Turns out KJ and Meredith don’t know anything about poker at all. And this week’s villains of the week earn a coveted title from Meredith.
CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean discover a witch (guest star Hal Ozsan) is running a high-stakes poker game where the currency is life years vs. money. Bobby (Jim Beaver) sees the game as a chance to get out of the wheelchair and bets 25 years, but loses. As Bobby begins to age rapidly, Dean steps in to save him but also ends up turning into an old man, leaving Sam holding the bag for their survival.

KJ and Meredith are joined by JJ (@jjbwaywatch) to talk about Taylor Swift and fandom. JJ leads a lot of this one which is super exciting as the episode covers mono-culture, the impact of the pandemic on fandom, our personal experiences with Taylor Swift and fandom, and speculation about the upcoming twelfth album The Life of a Showgirl. And of course they tie it all back into Supernatural.

Added note: KJ would like to formally apologize for not pointing out Julia was portrayed by Ever Carradine who was Naomi Putnam in The Handmaid's Tale
CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean investigate a series of odd murders that strangely resemble fairytales and urban legends. The brothers track down an 11-year-old boy named Jesse (guest star Gattlin Griffith) and realize that whatever Jesse believes is coming true.
