Kelsey and Jesse were blessed to get pregnant right away…although if Jesse had it his way they would have had a honeymoon baby! Then, working in an office of midwives, Kelsey was able to get her first time pregnancy questions answered daily, and in person. When the time came to give birth though, she was left feeling a little underprepared for the unmedicated birth she had hoped to have. Throw in an extremely strong epidural, a panic attack, and the dreaded pitocin and things just didn’t go as she imagined. For her second birth, she stepped up her preparation game by taking a more in-depth and faith based childbirth class, as well as preparing physically and spiritually, all of which greatly impacted her second labor where she was able to go unmedicated! Most first time moms can expect two things: first, to go way past their due date, and second, to have a long marathon of a labor. For Morgan, however, this was not the case! When you got the natural, unmedicated, intervention-free birth you were going for, with a smooth and relatively quick labor, what could go wrong? Well, when your baby is taken from you within seconds of being born, a lot. Tasha’s first birth took a wrong turn when her baby was quite unnecessarily taken to the NICU after birth and she lost not only that golden hour, but breastfeeding initiation, skin to skin and more. All of this played a huge role into her difficult postpartum where postpartum anxiety and depression turned into postpartum psychosis due to incredible sleep deprivation. Then, after two back to back losses, she hears God speaking to her about the sovereignty of life, and the blessing of children, and decides to do a complete 180, having a wild pregnancy and free birth, prompted by the Lord who she gave full authority to throughout the process.

How much support you have or don’t have matters greatly in your labor and birth and can affect, well, pretty much everything. At the lack of support from her midwife, and doula, she transferred to the hospital for her first planned home birth. Thankfully, God’s grace met her there through a wonderful nurse who was able to help her through the rest of her labor. The next time around, Chloe prepared her team well. Not only did she have the constant support and encouragement from her husband, but from four other women who weren’t just physically and emotionally holding her up, but spiritually as well. Chloe attributes the success of her second birth at home to her intercessors who never doubted her or God’s plan for her for a second!

When you’ve always pictured having a home birth, but after 48 hours of labor you decide to transfer to the hospital, you think you’d be disappointed or possibly even traumatized in some way-but that’s not Poem’s story. Trying to plan a baby around our timeline almost never works out, because God’s time is not our time, but His time is the best time. Nicki had to trust the sovereignty of God when she became pregnant not only with her husband being gone for her entire first trimester of all day nausea and vomiting, but also with her husband being deployed during the end of her pregnancy, their baby’s birth, and the first three and a half month’s of their baby's life. How far would you drive to make sure that you didn’t have to birth in the hospital? One hour? Two hours? Well, you’ll hear today that Lori drove five hours to ensure she could have her baby the way that she wanted to, and the way that God designed her to. Once a medically minded labor and delivery nurse, inducing women at the hospital every night, Lori was changed after going through her doula certification, and ended up becoming a certified nurse midwife who attends home births. Hear all about how God has designed our bodies to give birth, and how stepping into the hospital system can often disrupt and reroute that design.
