The Baptist divines asserted the reality of the Covenant of Works made with Adam at creation. When Adam ate from the tree he broke the law of creation and the specific command, which brought the loss of communion with God and body and soul being totally deprave. Sin is the lawlessness and is seen in the guilt imputed and the corruption conveyed. The double benefits of Christ provide the remedy in justification and sanctification. Without Christ setting people free, there is no hope for sinners.

Genesis 38 focuses on Judah as the other potential leader of the clan. Judah's wickedness abounds all the more in this section as his concern for the Promised Land and Promised Seed is non-existent. He takes a wife from the land of Canaan and bears wicked sons who are struck down by the Lord. After Tamar is rejected by her father-in-law, she takes matters into her own hands and tricks Judah into being the father of the seed. Judah recognizes his wickedness and confesses it.

Paul turns his attention the Parent-Child relationship. Children are commanded to obey their parents as unto the Lord, while fathers are commanded to raise their children in the correction and instruction of the Lord.

The works of God outside of himself are creation and providence. In God's providence, he upholds, disposes, directs, and governs all things from the greatest to the least. God preserves the world according the natural properties with which he created it. God governs the world bringing about the ends for which they were created. And God concurs with secondary causes so that God works through means in bringing about His plan.

Paul turns his attention to specific situations starting with marriage. Marriage is between one man and one woman and it is a representation of Christ and the church. Christ loves His church and gave himself up for her. The husband is to give himself for his wife and the wife is to submit herself to her husband as the church does to Christ.

After Peter heals a lame man in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, he explains that this miracle was done by the power of Jesus and not the power of man. Jesus is the suffering servant of Isaiah 53, the prophet like unto Moses, the seed of Abraham and the Messiah. The miracle further signifies that the age of the Messiah has dawned.

The Baptist divines believe that the Triune God created all things whether visible or invisible in the space of six days and all very good. The Bible is clear that these days are twenty four hour days and not some extended moments in time. The creation of the world culminated with the creation of mankind -male and female- who God made in his image. The creation of the world shows God's eternal power, wisdom and goodness.

The risen Lord Jesus appointed a specific time to meet his disciples and give them a specific commission. Christ's resurrection evidences that he is the Messianic King and assures them that all power over heaven and earth is given to him. He then delegates his power to his church by commanding them to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them, and teaching them. Though the risen Christ is at the right hand of God the Father, he has promised to be with his church.

Paul finishes his general exhortations by exhorting the Ephesians to walk in wisdom. Wisdom is thinking biblically in concrete situations of life, especially as believers live in an unbelieving world. Christians are also commanded to be filled with the Spirit encouraging one another and submitting to one another.

God has decreed all things whatsoever comes to pass according to His immutable, eternal will. This includes the salvation of sinners in the Lord Jesus Christ. Before the foundation of the world God elected some to everlasting life to the praise of his glorious grace. Others he leaves in their sin to their condemnation to the praise of his glorious justice. This doctrine of predestination must be handled with care and prudence as it is a special mystery. Christians are still called to preach the gospel as the way in which God calls forth those who are His.
