As the focus shifts to Jacob as the Patriarch, there is some uncertainty about who would be next in line. Reuben, Simeon, and Levi have disqualified themselves, which leaves the door open for Joseph and Judah. The narrative focuses in on Joseph and his tumultuous relationship with his brothers that leads to his slavery in Egypt. Despite the wickedness of the chosen people, God's promise to Abraham is not thwarted.

Paul continues the discussion of a Christian's conduct in the world. Believers are called to walk in the light and not in darkness. The metaphor of light and darkness refers to the contrast between good and evil. Christians are called to walk in goodness, righteousness, and truth, which is produced by the Spirit. Walking in light means reflecting the Light of the World.

The writers of the confession use precise language to describe the distinctions of the persons of the Trinity. There is one God who is not divided in nature, but distinguished by relative properties and personal relations. The Father is unbegotten, the Son is eternally begotten of the Father, and the Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. The Trinity is also the foundation for all of our communion with God.

The genealogy of Esau finishes the focus on Isaac and transitions to the focus on Jacob as the Patriarch. Though Esau was not chosen as the special seed, God still promised that he would be a nation and receive temporal blessings. God fulfills His temporal promises to Esau serving as an assurance that He will fulfill His eternal promises to Jacob.

Paul turns his attention to exhortations as believers interact with a sinful world around them. Believers are to imitate God by loving one another as Christ loved us. The exhortation is based on the fact believers are already children of God. But as believers interact with the world they should not let any sin that is typical in a pagan society be named among them. Christians are called to walk in love.

In line with the Christian church, the Particular Baptists asserted the fact that they believe in the Trinity. The Trinity is a mystery that no man can comprehend, and the purpose of using inadequate human language is to make sure that we do not fall into heresy. The Baptist divines understood this and used precise language to say that in this divine and infinite Being there are three subsistences. Rather than comprehend, we just worship the One God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity.

Philip is guided by God to make his way down to Gaza. On the way, he comes across an Ethiopian Eunuch reading Isaiah 53 and asks Philip what it means. After the Ethiopian Eunuch believes and is baptized, Philip is taken away to another city. This account demonstrates that God's plan of redemption in Christ brings in outcasts like this Ethiopian Eunuch.

God is self-sufficient, omniscient, and omnipotent. And we see these attributes on display in the ways in which God deals with His creation. Unlike the creature, God does not need us nor derives any glory from us. Unlike humans, God's knowledge is infinite, infallible and independent. Unlike humans, God is able to do all He said he would do because His power is infinite. We see His operations outside of himself on display in the work of nature and the work of grace.

After Paul speaks of the gifts given to the Church for edification, he goes on to give a solemn charge- Christians should no longer walk in their former ways. But before he gives specific exhortations, he gives the basis for the Christian life, which is the fact that Christians, though there is still remaining corruption, has put off the old man and put on the new man in Christ. The Christian life is the call to be what we already are in the Lord Jesus.

When approaching the doctrine of God, a Christian must approach it with reference and awe. The Lord our God is but one only living and true God and there is no other. Unlike humans, God is self-existence and has the only true knowledge of Himself. We can know God, but only as He accommodates to us through revelation. The Creator-creature distinction is further seen in the fact that God is a simple being, which means that all that is in God is God.
