On the latest episode of Syracuse Sports, Brent Axe is joined by Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News and Drew Carter, the voice of the Boston Celtics, to preview the 2024 NBA Finals.
Mike, a former colleague of Brent's at Syracuse.com, describes his journey from covering the worst team in the NBA this season (Detroit) to being on the beat of a team in the NBA Finals. Curtis also breaks down what it's like to watch Mavericks Luca Doncic night after night, the key matchups in the Finals and having to pivot and cover a game from an airport when weather delays prevented him from getting to a Western Conference Finals matchup.
Carter tells Brent about the pressure on the Celtics to win, what it's like to follow in the footsteps of a Celtics play-by-play legend, if former SU star Oshae Brissett can contribute for Boston in the Finals and about his life post-Syracuse.

Caitlin Clark's entry into the world of professional basketball has brought on a flurry of new attention and hot takes.
Basketball analyst Isis Young, a former Syracuse standout and current college basketball and WNBA color commentator, joins Brent Axe on Syracuse Sports to make sense of it all.
Does the WNBA have an obligation to protect Clark or are a lot of people just overreacting to some veteran players sending a message to a rookie? How will all the added attention Clark is bringing to the game eventually aid the league?
Axe and Young also talk about if former SU star Dyaisha Fair will get another opportunity in the WNBA, her view of Coach Felisha Legette-Jack's approach in leading Syracuse women's basketball and preview the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks.

On the latest episode of Syracuse Sports, Brent Axe examines what Syracuse football and basketball still need out of the transfer portal now that the deadline for athletes to submit their names to it has passed.
For football, Syracuse met with an intriguing option for backup quarterback last weekend. Brent tells you about him and the other positions of need still there.
(NOTE: This podcast was recorded just before Christian Veilleux committed to Georgia State so he's no longer on Syracuse's radar, but the concept of the type of quarterback SU is looking for still applies. I also wanted to note that he visited and that Syracuse is still on the hunt for a backup QB)
Mike Waters joins Brent to discuss SU basketball's potential wish list for the portal, including guards Kadary Richmond and Ken Davis Jr. and if SU would be OK if it stood pat with the roster it has now.
Brent then reads texts from Syracuse Sports Insiders on what they feel both programs still need to add from the portal.

On the latest episode of Syracuse Sports, Brent Axe opens by pondering a potential return to Syracuse basketball for former guard Kadary Richmond, who is in the transfer portal. What are the advantages and disadvantages of bringing Richmond back and could SU pull it off? Brent also opines on how Syracuse women's lacrosse just can't past a nemesis that has now beaten the Orange six straight times.
Brent is then joined by former Syracuse quarterback Charley Loeb and syracuse.com's Emily Leiker to discuss SU football's backup quarterback situation. Loeb trains both Carlos Del Rio-Wilson and incoming freshman Jakhari Williams in his role with Quarterback Country. Loeb tells Brent and Emily about the development of both quarterbacks and who is ready to step up if SU starter Kyle McCord goes down.
Loeb also talks about the buzz surrounding the program among SU football alums on the arrival of new Orange coach Fran Brown and tells a funny story about a text he got from the new SU boss.
