The Classic Album Clash returns with a great battle between two Aerosmith classics – “Permanent Vacation” and “Pump!” And the guys from “Pod of Thunder” help determine which Aerosmith album comes out on top! Nick, Andy, and the mysterious Chris L. do the usual album cover comparison, production analysis, and of course the infamous song-by-song breakdown! And in true CAC spirit, they share some great stories, trivia, and plenty of ridiculousness that may or may not involve Macaulay Culkin, actor and comedian Tyler Perry, Sally Struthers, the Harold and Kumar movies, a classic 80s mixtape, and a couple of broken hearts (one of which may or may not be Chris Jericho’s).
Eli Roth returns and this time he’s brought fellow filmmaker, Mark Borchardt. Mark is the creator and director behind the horror short, “Coven,” and the subject of the 1999 film, “American Movie,” which documented the 3 years Mark spent writing, shooting, and editing “Coven.” Mark and Eli talk personal movies versus studio films, the creative process, the benefit of film school, what it was like to shoot on actual film and have to wait for it to be developed, and how they feel about the future of movies and the theater experience in the age of COVID. The threesome also talk about some of their favorite movies and directors (like Werner Herzog), and Mark speaks to the “Coven” sequel and when that may be available. It’s a great discussion about the art of film!
Talk’n Shop returns to TIJ with the Good Brothers Karl Anderson and “The Big LG” Doc Gallows, and special rotating fourth (and original Talk’n Shop creator) Rocky Romero! And because of the pandemic, this one’s done social-distancing style with plenty of vodka, tequila, and beer on zoom video. Of course, there’s still total debauchery and chaos involved with guest appearances from Sex Ferguson, Toothless Stone Cold, and Reptile. There are also stories about the Chris Jericho Japanese Tour Book, Impact Wrestling, Haku, pissing on the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla, and Talk’n Shop A Mania. Plus, the TNS boys break some news about another event, a new drink, and an original animated series.
No children, animals or vases were harmed, corrupted, or peed on during the recording of this episode.
Thunder Rosa is the NWA Women’s Champion, but she had a hell of a match against Serena Deeb on AEW Dynamite last week, and then she made history by challenging AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida for the title! Hear the journey that Thunder Rosa took to AEW that includes a professional career as a social worker, a wrestling school that went defunct before she got a single day’s worth of training from them, a single match in Mexico, a couple of tours of Japan, and one fight in the MMA octagon! She’s got grit and determination, and she doesn’t take sh*t from anyone!
The “Blood, Sweat and Beers Tour” launched in May of 1991, and was Warrant’s first headlining tour of that size. It was Firehouse’s first big tour, and Trixter had already been on the road for 7 months when they got the call to open the bill. None of the bands had ever really crossed paths before, but by the time the tour wrapped in October, not only had they all become fast friends, they also ended up with one of the highest-grossing tours of the year. And then grunge happened, and almost overnight, the three bands found themselves virtually out of work. Warrant’s Eric Turner, Firehouse’s Bill Leverty, and Trixter’s Steve Brown and PJ Farley reunite to tell tales from that storied rock tour (probably the last of its kind) including the pranks they played on each other, the after-show hangouts, jamming in local bars, Jani Lane’s video game obsession, and the night Judas Priest’s Rob Halford came to see them play in Phoenix, Arizona.
Eddie Kingston was wrestling in the UK when the pandemic hit, and details the incredible journey he took to get back home to Florida (including a $200 uber ride)! Eddie is also a self-proclaimed “mama’s boy” and says that’s why he signed to AEW (he always does what his mama tells him to do)! But that’s not why he got into pro-wrestling. Eddie chronicles his wrestling journey from his days with Chikara to his run at Impact Wrestling to the public challenge he issued that landed him a shot challenging Cody for the TNT title, and ultimately a contact with AEW! Plus, you’ll hear how Eddie developed his character, and his incredible ability to cut promos.
Actor and comedian Rob Schneider just released a brand-new comedy special on Netflix called, “Asian Momma, Mexican Kids.” He filmed it just before the pandemic shut everything down, and explains what prompted his return to the stage, how his family inspires his comedy, and what it’s like doing stand-up during this time in the world. He also shares some great stories about his SNL days, creating some of those classic characters, and working with the great Chris Farley. You’ll hear what Chris was like off-camera and why Bill Murray was not a fan. Plus, Rob talks movie-making with Adam Sandler, and reveals what’s coming next once filming can resume!
Sam Adonis (little brother of WWE’s Corey Graves) is the guy that Lucha Libre fans loved to hate thanks to the heel gimmick that had him waving an American flag with a giant photo of Donald Trump’s face plastered to its center! Sam reveals what inspired the gimmick, why he loved being boo’ed by CMLL fans, and some of the real-life (and scary) situations the gimmick caused! Sam also spent 4 years living and wrestling in the U.K. after losing his deal with WWE. He talks about FCW including the advice he got from Steve Regal, why he was fired, what he learned from the experience, and how all of that eventually led him home to Pittsburgh and across the world to Japan. And if that’s not how you know Sam Adonis, maybe you know him from his appearance on the Talk’N Shop Mexico City TIJ episode with Jericho, Anderson, Gallows and special guest Enzo Amore (and Sam no longer has that girlfriend).
Dokken is releasing a treasure trove of unheard tracks from the band’s early years! The new album comes out Friday and is called “The Lost Songs: 1978-1981,” and famed frontman Don Dokken explains where and how this came together! He shares why the band had to go to Germany to get a record deal and make a name for themselves, why Ratt bassist Juan Croucier was in the initial Dokken lineup, and how The Scorpions factored into the band’s early success. Dokken talks about his love-hate relationship with guitarist George Lynch and the fist-fights they used to get into on a daily basis, how Metallica blew them off the stage on the Monsters of Rock Tour in 1988, and what he had to do to get his name back after losing the right to perform as Dokken! Plus, Don details the botched neck surgery he had earlier this year that’s left his arm and hands paralyzed, and Don unable to play guitar (or do much of anything really), and the intense physical therapy he’s undergoing in hopes of regaining use of his hands.
Shinedown singer Brent Smith and guitarist Zach Myers have a brand-new duos album coming out October 9th. It’s called “Smith & Myers Volume 1,” and it’s a collection of original and cover songs that the two started recording just before the pandemic forced everyone off the road and into lockdown. Restrictions finally loosened up enough for them to finish the album! They talk about the “Smith & Myers” song choices (including covers of INXS and Post Malone), the recording process, and the timing of this album. They also share some details about Shinedown’s upcoming 7th album, and tell road stories from their touring days with Van Halen and Iron Maiden!
The first two singles, original “Not Mad Enough,” and a reimagined version of the Neil Young classic, “Rockin’ In The Free World” are available here:
