So here's the thing, we're on hiatus.  We're enjoying the dog days and waiting for the kids to go back to school.  And then the #1 (?!?) goalie in the world requests a trade from the hometown squad and like Voltron we form and talk a little hockey!

So back in June, the 15th to be precise, some of our esteemed Jet's roundtable called this.  At that point it was clear that a divorce between Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets was at a when, not if situation. We talk about our feelings, and we'll about the hockey side of it, the business side of it, and the very real possibility that the Jets are suddenly facing one of the biggest decisions in recent franchise history. There’s plenty of speculation, plenty of questions, and — because this is Winnipeg hockey — probably a healthy amount of panic.

What happens if he sits out?  Who are our best trade prospects?  Why aren't we calling the shots by now?

It's all here kids, sometimes an emergency pod is what's needed - and we all know that bonus hockey is the best hockey!

Well folks, Season 8 is officially in the books! We put in a little time at the office to bring you episode 40 and put a bow on another great season - once hockey returns in the fall, we'll be back for Season 9. You can set your watch to that.

Our Team of the Week is the 1993-94 New York Rangers, who finally ended a 54-year Stanley Cup drought with an epic seven-game Final against the Vancouver Canucks. Messier, Leetch, Richter, Graves and the Russian Foursome all got their names on the Cup as the Rangers finally brought Lord Stanley back to Broadway and the bleacher creatures at MSG!

We also gripe about the state of hockey media in the year of our lord 2026. More games behind more subscriptions, more stations disappearing, familiar voices getting the boot, and, for the first time ever, Hockey Night in Canada not airing on CBC. Canada's game is being bought and sold, and the fans are paying the price.

And finally, after a season-long battle, the Vintage Wax Pack Attack has a champion! Tune in to hear how it all went down.

This week we're staying close to home and looking back at the 1992-93 Winnipeg Jets. Teemu Selanne's unforgettable rookie season was truly one for the ages as the Finnish Flash lit the league on fire with 76 goals and rewrote the record book. Unfortunately, the rest of the roster . . . wasn't quite as electric. We dig into a team with plenty of scoring, not much defence, some suspect goaltending, and draft that will leave you scratching yer noggin'.

In the second period, we catch up on the latest NHL news, including Patrick Kane heading back to Chicago and Ryan Getzlaf making his coaching debut behind Canada's World Junior bench, plus we talk about some legendary villains on the ice!

And finally, it's time for the finale of our season long hockey card odyssey - we bring you the O-Pee-Chee Six Wax Pack Attack!  That's right six packs apiece to assemble the final roster before we seed our squads and start our tourney!

This week we head to Hockeytown to take a look at the 2007-08 Detroit Red Wings, a team that may have been the last great dynasty of the salary cap era. With Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Franzen, Cleary and Osgood, plus the sage leadership of Chelios, Hasek, Draper and Maltby - the Wings sipped from Lord Stanley once again, defeating a young Sid The Kid!

Next, we ask why Stevie Y, why?  The Red Wings legend stepped away as Red Wings GM seemingly out of the blue and we wonder why now, and what's next? We also get into Cole Perfetti's new deal, a bunch of other RFA signings, debate the rise of the NHL schedule reveal, and congratulate Uncle Fester on landing in Montreal as an assistant coach.

In the third, we answer a great question from listener Justin in Nanaimo, and rip into the final Parkhurst Pack Attack - plus we talk Wax Pack Tournament plans, which all goes down next week!

After a week away, the boys are back at it this week and we start off by diving in with a great team of the week - the 2010-11 Vancouver Canucks! They won the Presidents' Trophy in a landslide, had a prolific set of twins operating at their peak Sedinery, and they seemed destined to end Canada's Stanley Cup drought. From Bobby Lu between the pipes to a great young collection of players including Kesler, Burrows and Bieksa, this team had everything . . . except the final win, which the Boston Bruins took in a riotus affair.

In the second period, it's all Jets baby as we break down the local squads offseason moves so far. Swedish Chef Viggo is confirmed to be cooking in North America this season, while Stuuuuuuu brings a great 'stache and some stability between the pipes. Plus, Mario Ferraro is finally a Jet, and our blue line is shaping up nicely! We ask what Chevy has left to do before training camp opens - and is a Helle big trade on the horizon?

Then we Offer Sheet Madness! Sure, the Ducks and Mammoth matched on their young stars, but did Philly and the Devils just make offer sheets cool again?  We tried to get Brian Burke on the phone, but he's still out punching walls...

Hey ho, the ol' Hockey Talkin' Show is back, as the boys start to wind things down and think about takin' a summer break!  But fear not dear listener, are plans ain't solid yet - plus the off-season is in full effect and we've gotta talk draft, trades, free agency and of course another beauty of a retro team!

Without further adieu, we're talkin' 1980-81 Los Angeles Kings, all bespoke in their majestic purple and gold uniforms!  Led by the Triple Crown line of Marcel Dionne, Dave Taylor and Charlie Simmer, these guys put up goals in bunches!  In fact, this terrific trio was the first in NHL history to record three 100 point seasons by a set of teammates!  With youngsters Jimmy Fox and Larry Murphy in the mix, the squad finished fourth overall in the regular season, before falling to the Rangers in four in the first round.

Then, the silly season continues with a whole whack of trades leading up to the draft! Names like Tuch, Kyrou, Byrum, Nemec, Eklund, McTavish, Carlo and Carlson have all found new homes, as picks are swapped and teams jockey for position before July 1. Plus we recap the draft, highlight a few surprises and officially welcome Viggo Björck to the fold - all hail the Swedish Chef!

Last week our crack panel of experts fixed your Winnipeg Jets, even though it may have taken three hours!  This week, we're back to tell you about the 2005-06 Carolina Hurricanes, the last Raleigh team to win the cup before this year's edition. With captain Rod "The Bod" Brind'Amour leading the way, a young Eric Staal breaking out, and rookie Cam Ward catching fire at exactly the right time, the Canes went from playoff outsiders to Stanley Cup champs in just one year. 

Then we dive into the start of NHL Silly Season  and catch you up on all of the trades to date, plus coaching changes, and the newly announced Hall of Fame class. Plus, after a brief hiatus, the Stat Line Of The Week is back!

Finally, we wrap things up with some talk about this Friday's draft, looking at a few Manitobans hoping to hear their names called.  Plus gather 'round as co-host Tom shares the story of Helmuts Balderis, who became the oldest player ever drafted at nearly 37 years old.

The Parkhurst Pack Attack is back, and we try to figure out if Home For A Rest should be Canada's answer to all those sports sing-along-songs.

Now that the 'Canes (and our ol' pal Nikolaj) have raised Lord Stanley, it's time to get down to business - we've gotta fix the local hockey squad.  On this super-sized episode, all the rules go out the window.  We'll perform the autopsy on the 2025-26 season, we'll play armchair GM and we'll tell you all about the trades and draft picks that we'd make along the way!  

Big thanks to our expert panel of local hockey aficionados - Dregs, Jacko and the Grewj - this was a fun one, so dive in and let's fix those Jets!

The cup finals are finally upon us, and the pod is heatin' up with the squad that won it all 20 years ago - the Colorado Avalanche!  We talked about the team they beat back in episode 27, but these Av's were a team built for the post season!  In the first year post-Quebec, the boasted a vet heavy lineup led by Burnaby Joe, who was joined by Forsberg, Ricci, Leschyshyn, Foote, Kamensky and bolstered by the in-season acquisitions of Patrick Roy, Sandis Ozolinsh and playoff beast Claude Lemieux, this team clobbered the Red Wings in the semis and then swept the Panthers in the finals.

Speaking of, we pour one out for Claude Lemieux who passed this week tragically - our thoughts go out to his family, friends and the fans he made along the way.

Then we do a quick post-mortem for the Habs and this years Avs before talking finals and which team we might hate less.

It goes with out saying, but the 1978-79 Rangers might have been one of the best hangs of all time!  Whether they were cuttin' ads for fine European denim or makin' disco records with funny man Alan Thicke, Espo and the boys got the job done on AND off the ice!  Despite his initial reluctance to the move, big 77 showed he could still put the puck in the net on Broadway, and he was joined by the dynamic Swedish duo of Anders and Ulf, plus the standout mullet of Ron Duguay and with solid play by JD between the pipes, they went all the way to the finals before falling in five to the wagon Habs.

In the second, we're talkin' playoffs, were the Avs seem to have lost their mojo and the Canes-Habs looks like it might go the distance.

In the third, we try and figure out the IIHF website and tease our big Jets round table which is coming together as we speak!
