Back at it for another week and we just can’t escape the steely gaze of our number 43, tendy turned commentator Martin Biron! He plyed his trade mostly with the Sabres in Buffalo, but also had stops in Philly and with both New York squads!
Then we talk about your undefeated Winnipeg Jets, who at the time of recording are almost a tenth of the way towards an unbeaten record this year. The fellas tell you who is hot so far this year, and note a couple of players who are off to a slower start.
And then in the third period, it’s a real hodge podge — we talk vertical striped socks, boss eagle mascots and defunct Winnipeg hockey clubs!
After a Thanksgiving induced break, your co-hosts are back from their food comas and ready to talk some hockey!
We’re calling this episode THE MAKAROV in honour of Sergei Makarov — the man who put the M in the KLM line and racked up an astounding 13 (!!!) Gold Medals during an amazing international career. Though he hit the NHL ice late in his career, he still won the rookie of the year award at the age of 31 (and caused a rule change that will forevermore bare his name) and averaged almost a point a game over 5 and half seasons in the big show!
Then we’re joined by longtime friend of the show, Eric Adams, an Oregonian transplanted in Salt Lake City. He’ll tell us all about the excitement that the Utah HC is bringing to the SLC area, if the fans are a knowledgeable bunch and most importantly, which of these former Coyotes do you want on your fantasy squad!
Finally, we close with the segment you’ve been eagerly awaiting — that’s right it’s time for the Garage League update! Once again, your favourite co-hosts are twirlin’ around the ice each week at the Winnipeg Winter Club and we’ll tell ya all about Season 3 of Garage League action thus far!
And. We. Are. Back.
That’s right friends, your favourite hosts are back to talk a little hockey with Season 7, Episode 1 a little episode that we’re called THE HALAK, after great Slovakian tendy Jaroslav Halák! Didn’t he wear #41 you say? Well friend, he sure did — this year we decided that we wanted to give some of our high numbered friends their due, so we’re picking up our episode name game where season 6 left off!
Jaro, or the Halak-Ness Monster as his pals liked to call him played in the show for 18 (!!!) years with 7 different squads, often playing the 1A role in the netminder tandem, winning 2 Jennings Trophies along the way for his troubles.
Then we shift our focus to the now and talk at great length about your Winnipeg Jets — the boys in Blue, White and Red start the season this Wednesday in Edmonton and we give you a season preview and tell you why Brad Lambert isn’t in the opening night lineup, but also why you might see him sooner than later.
And then we go rapid fire in period three as co-host Jared put co-host Tom on the hot seat and gets some predictions for the 2024 – 25 season!
All this and great tune too — glad to be back gettin’ those pucks deep!
Your favourite hockey talkin’ hosts are back with the season 6 finale — THE TUUKA! We go in depth about the Bruins lifter, trying to figure out if he won a cup or not — he put up some really great stats during his 15 years, and has a wasp named after him to boot!
Then we talk about the recent flurry of moves — Rutger to the Pens and Yaeger to the Jets! Broberg & Holloway to the Blues! Askarov to the Sharks! Laine to the Habs!
And we wrap with a supersized Pack-A-Day habit segment with 1991 – 92 O‑Pee-Chees and 1991 Score!
As we’ve hit the higher numbers, there’s been a lot of ‘tendy talk on the program and today the fellas have a real beauty for you — The Dominator! That’s right, one of the greatest goalies of this era, number #39 Dominik Hašek — he was a standout for the Buffalo Sabres and later on, picked up a couple of cups as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Plus he won 6 Vezina trophies, an Olympic gold medal and collected a whole bunch of other accolades along the way, playing in the show until the age of 43!
Then, we wrap up our Four Nations Cup roster discussion with a double shot, covering teams Sweden & Finland!
On the Pack-A-Day habit, we stick with the Pro Set kick and spotlight the 1990 – 91 Series Two edition!
Here we are for another episode, this week it’s #38 — The Demitra! Of course we’re talkin’ Pavel Demitra, the late, great Slovakian superstar who plied his trade for the Sens, Blues, Kings, Wild and Canucks, plus was an beast on the international ice, leading the 2010 Olympics in points! Sadly his life was taken too early as part of the horrific Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash.
Then, we continue our Four Nations Cup early preview and look at some of the hard decisions facing ol’ Billy Guerin as he assembles what looks to be a stacked US roster!
Pack-A-Day today are some real beauties — the 1990 – 91 Pro Set Series One!
The boys are coming in smooth on this holiday Monday with an episode named after a great all around player — Patrice Bergeron! He amassed almost 1100 points during his career, played exclusively with the Boston Bruins, but perhaps is known best as the top shut down centre man of is generation, garnering 6 Selke trophies.
Then in a nod to ol’ Patrice, we talk about upcoming roster possibilities for the 2025 Team Canada Four Nation’s Cup roster — who’s in, who’s out, who is on the bubble and who should be a lock!
Pack-A-Day habit is the 1990 – 91 O‑Pee-Chee set — we both have some stellar pulls and eat some 30 year old gum.
We’re getting into the weird numbers here kids, not gonna lie — our other options today were Mike Eagles and J.J. Daigneault! We think that we made the right pick though going with rugged customer Matthew Barnaby — he caused problems for opposing players during stops in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Colorado, Chicago and Dallas and caused a few problems for himself off the ice!
We spend period two doing a fun little re-draft of the first dozen picks from the 2016 NHL draft — sure Auston still goes #1, but the rest of those first twelve is a bit of a shake up and a fun exercise to be sure. Plus, we predict an old pal to the Jets at #18!
On Pack-A-Day habit, we’ve got one of the nicest sets ever — the 1990 – 91 Upper Decks that honestly changed the hockey card game forever!
After a 2 week break, your favourite hockey talkin’ duo is back with season 6, episode 35 — the Moog! Ol’ Andy had a pretty stellar career across 18 season, winning 3 cups and backstopping some great Oilers, Bruins and Stars teams to 372 career victories — he capped it all off with a final season in Montréal, something that co-host Jared had completely forgotten about!
Then, we talk about a summer of (in)activity from your Winnipeg Jets and discuss what the next contract looks like for Cole Perfetti. Plus we tip our caps farewell to Joe Pavelski, and sing sayonora to Evgeny Kuznetsov.
Our pack-a-day habit this week is 1994 – 95 O‑Pee-Chee Première!
Say hey, it’s Canada Day and the boys are here for a supersized episode named after a smallish goalie who put up big stats — John Vanbiesbrouck aka The Beezer!
We’ll talk Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the initial Four Nation Cup player announcements, a brief discussion this year’s Hall Of Fame Class and then we talk about player movement — draft picks, trades and free agency, oh my!
