  • All-Time Buffalo Sabres Roster Draft (Part 2 of 2)

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, the second of a special two part episode, Patrick Moran hosted a panel featuring four of the best hockey minds in the Buffalo media to take part in an All-Time Buffalo Sabres draft, with players from all 50 years of the franchise’s existence eligible to be selected.

The panel consists of Paul Hamilton (WGR-550), John Vogl (The Athletic), Kris Baker (Sabres Prospects) and Chad DeDominicis (Die by the Blade/Expected Buffalo). On Tuesday’s part one the guys selected 12 forwards and two coaches. On today’s episode Patrick recaps their selections of six defensemen each along with two goaltenders.

Due to audio issues during the segment taping, Patrick runs down the picks of all 24 defensemen and eight goaltender selections, offering some numbers and anecdotes along the way. Some of the more interesting decisions included Rasmus Dahlin going inside the top five defensive picks, Jay McKee unexpectedly sliding down, Kris Baker’s dilemma between Bill Hajt or Alexei Zhitnik and Grant Fuhr taken third overall among goaltenders.

After that we hear a clip of Paul, John, Kris and Chad discuss the thought process behind their selections and what they thought of their respective rosters.

Patrick then gives his thoughts on each of panel’s respective teams and tries to come up with who he thinks did the best job. More importantly, there’ll be a poll on Twitter for you to go vote @PatMoranTweets.

After that, Patrick spends the last 20 or so minutes of the podcast going on a complete tirade following the Sabres decision to retain general manager Jason Botterill for a fourth season, as announced earlier in the week. He points out some of the many reasons GM is a position that Botterill doesn’t deserve, blasts Kim Pegula’s tone in the announcement and questions if this is rock bottom when it comes to the relationship between the fans and organization.

Be sure to check out two podcasts that Patrick was a special guest on this week, Trainwreck Sports and Buckets and Dan’s Sportsland.

  • Five Topic Friday

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast it’s a Five Topic Friday and Patrick is joined by recurring guest and friend Joe from NYC for a handful of discussions, five to be exact.

Today the guys are talking a handful of things Buffalo Bills, including young defensive tackle Ed Oliver getting himself arrested last weekend in Houston on DWI and unlawful weapon charges. How much of this is worrisome for his future and can it simply be chalked up to being young and dumb?

They also hit on former Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly appearing on CBS Sports Radio and saying that there’s a problem with the Bills if they don’t overtake the New England Patriots in the AFC East this year as well as an assessment of the blueprint that Brandon Beane has made for the team recently highlighted on the Pat McAfee show.

The Buffalo Sabres are poised to miss the playoffs for a ninth straight season, even when/if the NHL returns and goes to a 24-team playoff. Equally bad is the disintegrating relationship between the organization and the fans. Is it now at an all-time low and Patrick concludes that he actually hates the team.

Also, some non-Buffalo sports stuff is discussed, including a pair of documentaries that recently finished airing that crushed it both commercially and critically; The Last Dance, a 10-part series on ESPN and season two of The Dark Side of the Ring. The guys determine which they liked better. Also discussed is Cam Newton still being unemployed and Joe Rogan becoming a much richer man than he already was.

They finish with a chat about fan attendance for interim future sport events and a reminder to Joe that he owes the listening audience a song.

You can follow Joe on Twitter @BuffaloWins and make sure to tell you’re a huge Donald Trump enthusiast and love Tyrod Taylor vs. Josh Allen comparisons.

  • : Katie Morse, WKBW-TV Anchor

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a chat with WKBW-TV Buffalo morning co-anchor Katie Morse on a wide variety of topics spanning her life and career.

Born and raised in Western New York, Katie talks about growing up in Amherst and some of the things she enjoyed doing in her youth. It quickly becomes apparent after a trip to Washington that broadcast news is what she wants to do with her life, and Katie puts her goals into action beginning with college at Kent State University and later Canisius College.

Katie talks about honing her craft working at YNN before getting the opportunity to join WKBW-TV in 2014. She also talks the unorthodox sleeping schedule that comes with being a morning TV news anchor, a pattern that typically results in her being up and ready to start her day by around 2:00 am every morning.

She also has thoughts on the importance of chemistry in the industry, the challenges that have come professionally with the Covid-19 pandemic, advantages of working in the town you grew up in, why she loves Western New York, her take on social media and advice for aspiring news journalists.

They wrap with a tradition on this podcast, the “Fun Fact Finale” where we learn of Katie’s favorite place to visit overseas, her first celebrity crush, a former Boston Red Sox player that’s her favorite athlete, three dinner guest she’d love to have, what her go-to karaoke song would be and much more.

You can follow Katie on Twitter @KatieMorseNews and of course check her out mornings along with Ed Ranch on WKBW-TV Channel 7.

Following the interview Patrick shares a few thoughts on Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver getting arrested over the weekend in Houston and the conclusion of the 10-part ESPN documentary series “The Last Dance” that focused on the 1990’s Chicago Bulls championship runs. Follow Patrick on Twitter  @PatMoranTweets.

  • Nick Bat, Bills Podcaster & Writer

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran talks with Nick and Nolan Show co-host Nick Bat about the Buffalo Bills, Nick’s conversation with Eric Wood and a slew of other topics.

They begin by talking about Covid-19 and to what extent it’s had on Nick both professionally and personally, including seeing a video on social media that really resonated with him. They talk about how things are being handled and the struggle at times to not jump into heavy political arguments on social media.

They also have a nice discussion about the art of podcasting, and some of the work that goes on behind the scenes in producing a finished podcast regularly that is well received by listeners. Nick takes us inside his recent podcast that featured Eric Wood, including admitting the nerves he had beforehand, the struggle of shaking them off as the interview went on and what he’s learned from that and podcasting in general. Both guys take us through the grind of putting out a podcast regularly as well as share a few of their favorite podcasts and offer advice for aspiring podcasters.

Of course, the guys spend plenty of time talking about the Buffalo Bills and discuss Josh Norman’s bold assessment of his play, the Bills being considered AFC East favorites by everyone and thoughts on the team having four prime time games this season.

The chat ends with the Fun Fact Finale, formerly called the Mini-Lightning Round and we learn a bunch of things about Nick, including what karaoke song he could crush, his favorite place he’s visited, his first celebrity crush, three people he’d most like to have dinner with and much more.

You can follow Nick on Twitter @NickBat and of course be sure to check out the Nick And Nolan Show, Thursdays and Fridays on whatever platform you get your podcasts from.

  • Covid-19 Scare Plus Appearance On Nick & Nolan Show

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran explains why there were no episodes last week before airing a recent interview he did with Nick Bat for the Nick and Nolan Show.

Patrick tweeted early last week he was taking a week off for a mini-vacation but confesses his statement wasn’t true. He explains the details of he and his wife dealing with a significant Covid-19 scare.

Patrick then replays his appearance on the Nick and Nolan Show last week. Before medical issues temporarily shelved him, Patrick taped a segment that aired on their show last Thursday.  With the blessing of the Buffalo Rumblings Podcast Network we’re replaying that interview today.

In that interview Patrick sheds light into his own life and career, something he’s usually asking guests about on this podcast. He even ends up caught in his own mini-lightning round. It was a rare look into Patrick’s personal life and we’re sharing it today.

  • Ten Topic Friday, Version 2.0

On today’s episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran rides solo for an edition of Ten Topic Friday.

Today’s topics feature a rundown of some of the biggest villains/opponents in Buffalo Bills franchise history. Names on the list include the father of a new Bills signee, an iconic quarterback who’s not a fan of area hotels, a two-time Super Bowl winning coach, a pair of cheap shot artists and Jim Kelly’s biggest adversary.

Patrick also shares his insight on the Bills draft class from last week and has a take on Cole Beasley switching uniform numbers after just one season.

Other topics include the Buffalo Sabres potentially making the playoffs if the NHL season restarts, an article on Pegula Sports & Entertainment by The Athletic as well as Andy Dalton being released, the Green Bay Packers interesting draft decisions and the NBA season possibly resuming at Disney World.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Jeff Boyd and his entire family. Jeff’s a talented podcaster/broadcaster that’s been on this podcast 15 different times. Sadly, his father passed away this week after contracting Covid-19.  Please everyone, stay safe.

  • Bruce Nolan, Bills & NFL Draft Recap

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest, co-host of the Nick & Nolan show Bruce Nolan to recap and discuss the NFL draft from both a Buffalo Bills and league-wide perspective.

After spending a little time talking about pre-draft preparation and ESPN’s production of the draft, the guys dive into all the Bills draft picks and Bruce offers his insight into each of Buffalo’s seven picks.

Among those discussions is why Bruce felt the majority were practical picks, although he admits he wouldn’t have taken at least two of the picks in their draft spots were he running the Bills.

They also go over some Bills personnel winners and losers from the draft before discussing the rest of the league, going over which teams they think helped and hurt themselves the most over these past handful of days. Bruce is really high on a team that perennial does well in the draft while coming down hard on a Super Bowl contender that made many questionable decisions.

The guys wrap by determining if the Bills deserve to be the betting favorites in the AFC East this year and the threat of Miami quickly becoming a contender before Bruce ends by offering insight into the creative process coming up on the Nick & Nolan Show this summer during NFL down time.

You can follow Bruce on Twitter @BruceExclusive and be sure to check out the Nick & Nolan Show on both Thursdays and Fridays on the Buffalo Rumblings Podcasting Network.

  • Greg Tompsett & The NFL Draft

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by Greg Tompsett of Cover-1 and the guys are breaking down the first round of the NFL Draft as well as looking ahead to the Buffalo Bills entering the party on Day Two.

There weren’t many shockers in the first round, but still plenty to talk about including Tua Tagovailoa landing in Miami and Justin Herbert with the Los Angeles Chargers in consecutive picks with neither team trading up. The guys discuss a few picks that surprised them while citing their favorite selections, including Minnesota landing both a talented wide receiver and cornerback with a potential stud linebacker falling to the Ravens at pick 28.

Conversely, the guys didn’t like the first round for the Raiders or Dolphins, and what in the world were the Seahawks thinking at pick No. 27?

As for the Bills, Friday is go time and expect Brandon Beane to be busy. Greg breaks down several prospects he likes including guys specifically at running back, cornerback and defensive end.

You can follow Greg on Twitter @GregTompsett and be sure to check out the hard work Greg and the entire crew put in covering the Bills at Cover 1, including premium memberships that are (very) well worth it.
