  • Investment in Education Boosts Entrepreneur's Journey, with Justin Brooks

Real estate entrepreneur Justin Brooks joins Smart Companies Thinking Bigger host Kelly Scanlon to share the ups and downs of his entrepreurial journey, including how investing in his education was a turning point.

Brooks came from a working-class family in Kansas City and served in the United States Navy. Brooks always knew entrepreneurship and real estate would be his path to personal and professional satisfaction. In fact, he had dreamed of being an entrepreneur and real estate developer since he was seven years old, when he told his mother: “I’m going to be a real estate mogul.”
Brooks knew he wanted to “own a lot of real estate” and create wealth for his community. He began investing in real estate and quickly grew his portfolio. After his first project, he knew for certain that real estate was where he wanted to be.
In 2012, when Brooks bought his first property, the roller coaster ride began. Deep in debt, he ended up offloading of his real estate portfolio in 2015.  He was mentally and physically exhausted, but he had the will to persist and continued to pursue his dream.
He remembered that successful people like Tony Robbins and Jim Rohn invested in their education, so he set about doing that too.
Today, Brooks is the founder and CEO of J.H. Brooks & Company, a successful real estate developer with a growing reputation.

  • Success Tips From Serial Entrepreneur Cliff Cole of More Floods Inc.

Serial entrepreneur Cliff Cole joins Smart Companies Thinking Bigger host Kelly Scanlon to share the lessons he's learned three decads of business ownership.

Cole, currently the owner of More Floods Inc., got started in the cleaning and restoration industry as a technician in 1987, Within a year, he was promoted to manager of the Omaha office of a national company. Feeling the entrepreneurial bug, he started his own cleaning and restoration business soon after, as well as a supply house for other contractors.
Cole eventually sold the cleaning business so he could focus on the supply business. He opened a second location in Kansas City, where he currently resides.  After selling the supply business to a national company, Cole stayed on as a regional manager of multiple locations.
Cole then started another cleaning and restoration business in Kansas City. It experienced fast growth, and Cole sold it after three years. At that point, Cole decided to take what he had learned and use it to help restoration companies all over the country take their businesses to the next level.  He started a company called More Floods, which is a franchise-type system of operations and marketing. He currently sells protected territories and has more than 150 territories across the country.
With all of the success of his past companies, Cliff feels there is no greater feeling of success than helping another company reach their goals.
