Tasting Notes - With Bryn and Jaff

After the festival silly season, normal service is now resumed and this week Bryn And Jaff nip over to America to sample a bottle of Zinfandel.

There's predictions about Bloodstocks extra headliner, a tribute to the brilliant Brent Hinds, some (not so) unusual activity in the Cradle Of Filth camp...and a healthy serving of the usual nonsense!

This week's choice of releases is not for the faint of heart! There's an incredible blackened post-metal album, a soul-wrenching and drone-filled blackened-death record and plenty more to keep your ears and minds occupied! These are six releases that are definitely best listened to with wine....

Bryn and Jaff are back from the glorious fields of Fernhill Farm, and they're bringing you a full run-down of their ArcTangent week!

What bands played the best sets?

Who were the noisy people by the VIP bar?

Why are Inter Arma so smelly?

Who made Bryn cry?

All these questions (and more) will be answered, as the guys take you on a whirlwind tour of one of the best UK festivals!

Welcome back!!

This week, there's a slightly haphazard trip to Italy, where Bryn and Jaff pop into the Piccini winemakers and try one of their blends. Bonus points go to the label which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Pothamus album from earlier this year!!

Having just returned from a suitably debaucherous weekend at Bloodstock, Jaff soldiers through and provides a comprehensive run-down of the festival highlights. Bryn takes up the responsibility of reviewing two fantastic debut records that were released last week, and they both get rather excited about heading to ArcTangent this week!!

This Week Bryn and Jaff return to the familiar lands of Rioja...but there's a difference, and it's a genuine first for the podcast!!

It's also (finally) festival season and there's Bloodstock predictions, a thorough dressing down of the lacklustre Wacken 2026 announcement, Bryn's top festival tip....as well as the usual truckload of verbal meandering that you've come to expect.

Another six albums have been plucked from the tree of weekly music releases, and it's a hell of a mix...where else can you slide effortlessly from unhinged Australian slam into sleaze-laden LA grunge and then end up in the comforting arms of some traditional Death Metal.....

It's been a while, but Bryn and Jaff have returned for Season 2!!

After their jolly jaunt through the vineyards of Rioja, they now find themselves sipping Malbec in the wilderness of Argentina...and bloody good it is too!

There's a tribute to the greatness of Ozzy, Bryn airs his frustrations with festival lineup announcements, and rather a lot of historical fact-finding about the Etruscan civilisation. The guys are also excited to announce that they have officially launched a collaboration with the fantastic caffeine-wizards at Black Coffee Worship....but you'll have to listen to the episode to get yourself a sneaky discount on their products!!

There's been a ludicrously high calibre of musical releases over the past two weeks....some definite contenders for Album Of The Year for you to listen to!!

As they wobble their way to the end of their Rioja journey, Bryn and Jaff are lucky enough to have been donated an absolute stunner of a bottle! The oldest and most 'grown up' wine they've reviewed over the past 26 weeks, and they definitely seemed to enjoy it....

Unless you've had your head in the toilet over the past week then you'll be aware that Black Sabbath had a bit of a 'Jamboree' in Birmingham over the weekend. Jaff managed to get along to it in person, Bryn watched the livestream......and they couldn't resist sharing their thoughts with you! From Nuno Bettencourt's unbelievable reliability, Jake E Lee's disappearing act, Metallica's absolute monster of a set, an almost total lack of beer and the incredible ending of one of the most important bands in history....there's a lot to talk about!

They still find the time to discuss some of the brilliant releases from the past week, and there were some absolute belters for you to listen to!!

Bryn and Jaff are still staggering around in Northern Spain, and this week they've found a slightly different bottle of wine to devour.....a Rioja Blanco! A variety of wine that neither has previously tried, and it turns out to be something really rather special!!

Prepare yourselves for stories of Iron Maiden and Public Enemy, opinions on Glastonbury, another instalment of "Things Bryn doesn't give a shit about"....and a fair warning for what may be a rocky few weeks in Podcast Land.

As usual, they've found some seriously good releases to chat about, and this week there is improvisational desert soundscapes, old-school hardcore, an incredible experimental dark-ambient, drone record and plenty more for you to indulge in!!

This week Bryn and Jaff continue their Spanish escapades....but have only managed to stagger down the road to the neighbouring vineyard, will it live up to the high standard set by last weeks entry? They hope so, especially with a bold claim such as "The cathedral of Rioja"...

Jaff's mind explodes when he discovers Norway rhymes with Doorway, Bryn shares things he couldn't give a f**k about, they discuss what their personal choice of album to listen to before an apocalypse would be, they announce the winner of the first 'Vinyl Giveaway'.....and there's a substantial amount of time spent talking about Donald Trump's underpants....

It was also another brilliant week of music that includes some possible contenders for album of the year lists, as well as the only "true" metal album ever released.

This week Bryn and Jaff begin their month long journey to the vineyards of Spain....metaphorically speaking. They're back on their trusty Rioja, and with a bit of Ziggy Stardust magic it turns out to be quite an exceptional one!!

Hear them discuss Download festival (from afar), the elusive nature of wine connoisseurs and this week they even review two albums against the clock!! Oh, as well as forgetting their own names.....and starting beef with a gangster rapper from the 80's.....standard behaviour really....

If you're a fan of post-punk, blackened death-metal, critically slated albums from the 90's (that are actually really bloody good), or music recorded in obscure and unique locations then you're in for an absolute peach of a time with this weeks releases!!
