Tasting Notes - With Bryn and Jaff

Bryn and Jaff delve into the world of New Zealand wine for the first time with a rather refined looking bottle of Syrah....but was it any good?! Bryn gets excited about some comfortable looking socks, Jaff coins the term 'Swedecore' as a new genre and they both forget that they're recording and begin planning their Christmas episodes....also, Jaff takes a mid-episode trip to the bathroom. It's a chaotic one....

Music this week covers a whole spectrum....there's some of the fastest, most intense Death metal to ever come out of Finland, a truly genre-less masterpiece from the one and only Gaahl, a stunning meditative and transcendental soundscape record from Bristol.....and that's just the beginning!!

Oh.....and there's a chance to win a free vinyl LP in conjunction with the brilliant Black City Records.....what's not to like there!?

The duo are back together!!! After Bryn's continental escapades and Jaff's festival adventures in Scarborough, there's a lot to catch up on. Jaff has a fight with an uncooperative cork, Bryn shows off his lacklustre Italian language skills....and that's all before they even get to the music!

There are some stellar releases again this week ranging from blackened death to funeral doom and you have the added bonus of hearing some dodgy northern accents and a complete spiral into absurdity over an imaginary man who hate's all Brendan's.....enjoy!

For the first time, Bryn and Jaff are coming to you from different locations! Bryn has been selfishly swanning around Northern Italy, but he's been learning all sorts of interesting facts about the fantastic drink known as Lambrusco!! Jaff is back in merry old Cheltenham and holding the fort with four monstrously good music choices....

There's goats, flying dragons, sputum.....and a clear drop in recording quality (but they soldiered through for the sake of the listeners!). Listen out for details of the competition the guys are hosting at Fortress festival this weekend, you won't want to miss out on that!! There's also a surprise musical guest that Bryn shares a few glasses (....bottles) with on a vineyard just outside Reggio Emilia.....

Italian Pinot Grigio is the order of the week for Bryn and Jaff, and they once again prove that their palates seem to be improving! There's tales of Marilyn Monroe, wigs made of half-digested noodles and some slightly predictable views on 'that' song by President....

Bryn brings three incredibly melancholic albums (one that even made him cry), but luckily Jaff finds himself raising the mood (and lowering the tone) with the latest release from Death Metal monsters 'Cumbeast"......as expected, hilarity ensues!!

Bryn and Jaff are back on the white wine this week, courtesy of a peachy Chenin Blanc from South Africa. The usual hilarity ensues (despite the rather serious musical choices) with their ramblings taking them from Victorian urinals to their favourite brand of tractor.....even leaving room for a glass-raising toast to the one and only, Lemmy Kilmister.

There are some seriously dark and thought-provoking records on offer this week, including a couple that could even be highlights of the year!! If you're of a nervous disposition then maybe give this one a miss.....actually, don't do that at all....fill up your glasses, press play, and bask in the lunacy!!

This week Bryn and Jaff discover that Gary Barlow is quite the wine connoisseur and he's pulled an absolute blinder with his 'deliciously rich' South African Malbec.....shame about his lack of condom merchandise though!! The conversation drifts from Blood Incantation teaching strangers how to use a record player, Federico Albanese being an absolute legend and there's also a completely unexpected Donald Trump impression...

Music this week includes a mix of hardcore, blackened-death, punk, swamp-sludge and more.....it's quite the musical melting pot and you're guaranteed to find something you like!!

This week, Bryn and Jaff throw the whole rulebook out the window and talk about eight albums (albeit only briefly for two of them), finish their wine halfway through the episode (luckily there is a always a bottle of back-up plonk on standby) and turn their (hugely under-qualified) hands to talking about Jazz...they'll definitely keep you on your toes this week.

From waiting for cheeseburgers that never materialise, inadvertently reviewing the colour of Bryns bottom, chewing on mouthfuls of sediment, and learning all about Jaffs Meshuggah Station.....it's another winding road of conversational madness! Oh, and if anyone finds Bryns little jazz shoes, please return them to him...his feet are getting cold...

Bryn and Jaff are off to France again this week, and they find a white wine that may be a chart-topper!! On their journey they come across Gene Simmons (who talks about himself for far too long), Ozzy Osbourne (who is powering through his endurance training....hopefully) and get their pronunciation corrected by a husky sounding Polish gentleman.

It's also one of the most eclectic episodes for music....there's a concerto that may or may not include boobies, some truly absurd nuggets of musical brilliance from The Concrete Boys and one of the most impressive debut albums in recent memory....

Bryn and Jaff share a completely unremarkable Spanish Rioja....but enjoy it a lot!! They avoided eating fungus in Bristol, chatted about Timitus McJohn, clearly don't appreciate songs about baked beans and are baffled by the fact that Gary Numan and Gary Oldman are dangerously close to being the same age...whatever you do, don't mention The Boning Hall....

The soundtrack to the ramblings this week has been something exceptional!! Some absolutely brilliant releases from a hugely eclectic range of artists.

This week Bryn and Jaff go fishing off the coast of Western Australia with a wonderful bottle of merlot (shame about the crack). There's shiny noggins, a potential invitation to Saturday Kitchen and a dirty Pink (not Keith) Floyd....GO SLEEP!!

There's been a very eclectic bunch of albums out this week, from punk to blackened-doom and everything in between....and if that's not enough there's even a brief interlude for some shipping forecast.....you're in for a wild ride!!
