(At least season one of a good thing must come to an end, anyway…)

Today is part one of the huge season finale of the Teebs and KidPhoenix VS podcast. It is a finale and an idea so huge that your hosts could not even try to tackle on their own, so they’ve enlisted help. Vince Alvendia (the artist on the “Dr. Janina Scarlet's Dark Agents” graphic novel) and James Rowan (one half of the “Rebinge It” podcast) join in to have one huge Hall-H-style panel about several questions related to the future of nerd-dom. Have we reached the top of the mountain in terms of nerd culture? Is source material something that needs to be respected and considered when adapting comic IP to movies and television? How did toxic fandoms become such a thing, and is there a way back?

It is the penultimate episode of season one for your hosts Teebs and KidPhoenix.

We've all had a lot of laughs -- mostly with the hosts at their own expenses. Where does that charm... that wit... that skill for the chucks come from? Quite simply put, your favorite duo had to watch a lot of comedians growing up. They watched comedians of all types, but the African-American comedian is one that is very special to both Teebs and KidPhoenix. In the history of African-American comedy, many people have held the title at one time or another throughout the decades as the undisputed African-American comedy champion. Today, your hosts go through some of that history from 1970 until present day and give their opinions for the best of the best in the decades that they've been on this earth.

... but they also cross over in to the "jock" realm every once in a while because they're passionate sports fans. (This is something that happens when you grow up in a city like Philadelphia.) One sport in particular, football, has been a big part of their lives for as long as they've been fans of comic books and nerdy pop-culture as a whole. There have been many movies, television shows, and cartoons that have had football as a central plot point, so the guys decided to take all of those fictional characters and have a draft!

Teebs will draft a team. KidPhoenix will draft a team, and special guest Kevin O'Connor will draft a team!

One group must reign supreme, and one member of this three-man pod will be crowned as the best team builder of a fictional professional football team!

When George Romero created a movie in 1968 called "Night of the Living Dead", it became the first in a genre. The concept was simple: "What if the dead walked the earth?" Since that film, there has been so much zombie-related media in the pop culture landscape. Romero returned in the early 2000s for yet another "___ of the Dead" movie, but before that, Resident Evil took the genre to newer, more frightening heights. Robert Kirkman came along in the 2010s to create an absolute zombie phenomenon that has spanned over a decade with his show and comic book: "The Walking Dead". Your hosts, Teebs and KidPhoenix, take you on a journey through the years of zombie media in the pop culture landscape. There's also a debate on which movies are or are not zombie movies, and the pair reveal their choices for their own personal zombie apocalypse survival teams!

A long time ago (1977) on a planet far far away (maybe not... it's just Earth), George Lucas created a movie that sparked a phenomenon. Star Wars is a cultural backbone of many nerds (enthusiasts) around the world.

Teebs and KidPhoenix tackle the impossible duty of going through the entire Star Wars filmography. (They mean no disrespect to those who are fans of the TV shows, but they don't have that cache to discuss them aside from The Mandalorian. That's their bad.) The movies have plenty of topics and subjects to cover. Adding the TV shows would possibly turn this into a three-hour podcast. Maybe some would enjoy that, but for now, we're covering episodes I-IX. From Lucas to (sigh) Abrams. May the force be with all who listen!

It's time to nuke this podcast from orbit!

42 years ago, Ridley Scott took an idea imagined by H.R. Giger and created a great science fiction/horror thriller known as "Alien". 35 years ago, James Cameron expanded on that idea to include his own fingerprints of science fiction, noir and action to create "Aliens". The rest is history. A great movie franchise was born, and it has spawned two other sequels, a pair of prequels ("Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant"), a pair of spin off movies featuring another iconic movie alien (Alien vs. Predator), several video games including the new "Alien: Fireteam" game due at the end of this month, merchandise and a loyal fan base including your hosts Teebs and KidPhoenix.

The brothers enlist the mind and voice of another Alien franchise fanatic, Mr. Cory Slaton. The trio discuss the franchise, what makes it great three decades later and reminisce about their times and opinions on one of the greatest science fiction franchises in cinema.

Sometimes, it works when a previously made piece of media (movie/television) gets remade or rebooted in some way. Is that all that studios are capable of these days? Maybe. Maybe not. Your hosts Teebs and KidPhoenix discuss the direction that film and media studios have been trending over the last two decades or so. Why is this the new direction and what has led to it versus how it was back in the day (i.e. the 1970s/80s)? Is it a good thing to have new ideas or re-imagining of previous media? Remember that feeling of heading down to your local comic book shop, the newspaper stand close-by, or in Teebs's case -- the 7-Eleven (that is now an A-plus) at the corner of Farragut and Walnut Streets in Philadelphia -- to get that sweet super hero goodness?

That's what Teebs and KidPhoenix are talking about today. For many people, comic books are the first foray into super heroes and the ensuing nerd-dom that follows. Times have changed a lot since those days. The internet has made everything accessible to all, but there are still some issues with the comic book industry that your favorite nerdy pair of brothers that could fix that would make the experience that much better for everyone: buyers, sellers, artists, writers, etc. It is a very spirited discussion on the comic book industry as the duo sees it today.

If there is one movie that our beloved hosts, Teebs and KidPhoenix, hold on a pedestal more than any movie in the entirety of cinema, it's Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters is a classic. It has aged incredibly well since its release in July of 1984. It spawned a sequel in 1989, a remake/reboot in 2016, a three-season animated cartoon, millions of dollars in merchandising and a cult following that very few films from that era have assembled.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis (RIP), and Ernie Hudson were brought together via the mind of Aykroyd and Ramis under the direction of Ivan Reitman, and the rest is history. Teebs and KidPhoenix get into that history with a mutual friend of theirs, Heidi Bollard, and reminisce about the feelings they had watching the movie for the first time. There's also a deep discussion about the franchise as a whole and what they liked most about this absolute perfect movie. It's 90 minutes talking about ghosts and ghostbusting. Don't cross those streams!
